Lol ,howling wind . Many players arent going to finish today, they lucked out.

Justin Thomas is very close with Tiger Woods, he tells of the story of asking Woods the following;

"I'm like, 'Hey, we played a lot at home, but now we played in a tournament, you know, what do you see in what do I need to get better at?' And he just - immediately he's like, 'You don't have near enough shots.' It was like, 'You can work it ... But you don't have enough shots to be, you know, as dominant as I was,' kind of thing."

fuckin kudos to Thomas for asking and taking that advice to heart. JT is putting on a shot-making clinic today in these brutal conditions, adjusting. He's making playing partners Morikawa, McIlroy look like 4-handicappers.

at 17 Thomas hit a knock down 6 iron form 135 onto the island green
at 4 stinger fade driver with the ball teed low. (McIlroy went with his comfortable draw even tho the hole demands a fade)

Rahm gets the luck of the draw, he'll only play 3-5 holes today

Played Sawgrass years back, 1st day course was wet, throw at hole ball sticking , next day, wind blown , hit same spot it’s off back of green. Amazing how fast conditions can change

this is a really cool series, production is excellent quality for youtube, 3 episodes ;

3 golfers of different skill levels playing Sawgrass just after last yr's tournament from the tips (crazy for the higher handicapper);

pro/scratch golfer - his goal was to shoot 75 or below
3.1 handicap golfer - hig goal was to break 90
14 handicap golfer- his goal was to break 100

quote from the 14 handicap while at the range before tee-time ; "I hope you enjoy the car crash that is about to happen'

LMFAO

from the tips, tournament speed greens, 3 inch rough and THIS track? bro, fuckin brutal . Us amateurs are in harm's way ,lol.

The problem is there are many potential blow up holes . And the course is very demanding off the tee. Even the par 5's r taxing : th second shots on 16,8, 11 demand accuracy, let alone the tee shots.. Can cruise for 3 to 4 holes or so then boom a snowman on the card : 17, 18, 15, 7 all easy blow up holes, to name a few . No place to hide here . At 8 lose it left? toast ....look at 4 : short par 4 , but second shot is full carry over water, catch it a bit heavy ? .......Pete Dye was looking for blood when he designed this course.It is fair for length tho ........got in on the bucket list.

the final scores from that vid ;
pro/scratch-- 75
3.1 index golfer (low handicapper)- 102
14 handicap- 148.....he was a good sport, never lost his cool . I dont think he was a 14

morikawa is toast for me. need hatton, hovland, smith, im to hang on. Got a hunch Rahm will be there Monday. B Watson fades , he never does well at this track doesnt have the patience

Played it a few weeks after the tourney one year. Still had some bleachers up. Fairways were narrow as heck. The rough was brutal and some of the greens crew said it had been cut half way down already

He is probably a little worse than a 14. I'm around a 14 and assume I would shoot better than that but I could see myself struggling on the greens and could get ugly if I don't hit the driver straight. He was a great sport though - I don't think I could keep that type of attitude like that

agreed.

how about the low handicapper arriving at Sawgrass in pitch dark. Talking to the older security guard;

low handicapper : good morning, we're playing golf even though its pitch black out

security guard: seriously

low handicapper :well,..its going to get lighter

security guard : (leans over) sorry?

LMFAO!!!!!!!!!!!......fuckin' crying. That dude likely went on 3 hours sleep , was on the road at 4 am....just in case ............
