WEDNESDAY 2-2-2 +1.65 UNITS

I hope that you are all having a great season as well. Here are tonights selections. More selections to follow.

10 Units Boise State -11 -105

This will be a rematch, as these teams just met last Saturday, which Boise won 81-67 at Idaho. Boise State (4-1) has a good offense led by 6'-6" junior Jermaine Blackburn (19 ppg) and 6’-7” junior power forward Jason Ellis. They are outscoring teams by an 83-69 average and shoot 48%. The Idaho Vandals (2-4 SU, 0-3 ATS) lack height and have a decent backcourt with 6'-4" senior Tyrone Hayes and 5'-11" junior Tanoris Shepard. When these teams met last week, Boise shot 49% as Ellis dominated with 16 points and 19 rebounds!!! Idaho shot 41%. Last year, Boise won 75-67 at home over Idaho and 75-70 at Idaho, which means Boise is 3-0 SU & ATS the last three meetings with Idaho!!!

7 Units B.Y.U. -12.5 -103

Tough spot for an overrated USC team. USC plays no defense (48% shooting, 83 ppg allowed) despite having a decent low post player in 6'-8", 260-lb junior Jeff McMillan (15.8 ppg, 8 rpg). USC has been double-digit favorites three times, yet beat Cal State Northridge 75-69, lost at home to UNLV, 92-83 and they were a 13-point favorite over Fullerton this week, yet needed overtime to win 96-90. BYU plays great defense (43% shooting allowed, 61 ppg allowed) behind 6’-7” senior Mark Bigelow and 6’-11” senior center Rafael Araujo (20 ppg, 11 ppg) Araujo has really blossomed this season as a strong threat at both ends of the court. BYU was 15-2 SU/10-6 ATS at home last season and should take the defenseless Trojans to school!!!

7 Units Kentucky +1 -112

Kentucky now looks to assume the #1 crown after Florida's immediate loss earlier in the week. The Wildcats (4-0 SU & 1-2 ATS) now travel to a very tough situation where they will play Michigan State at Ford Field. This game is being touted as the most attended Hoop game in College history. Things may be bleak for the Cats as their last Away game was a tight, tough game against UCLA. Kentucky managed to pull it out 52-50 SU, but scored way below their home average of 76 points per game. Kentucky is led by Senior sensation Gerald Fitch, who is averaging 19 points and 4 rebounds per game. Back to back losses for the (3-3 SU, 2-3 ATS) Spartans against Duke and Oklahoma are just the beginning of non-conference games for the Spartans. They have a shot to make amends against Kentucky, UCLA and Syracuse. Michigan State is averaging 16.4 turnovers per game. Guard Chris Hill may be the best all-around player in the conference, he's averaging 11.4 ppg and five assists per game. Center Paul Davis is leading the Spartans in scoring with an average of 11.8 ppg. However, he is shooting just 44 percent, a figure that should be higher considering most of his shots come within 12 feet of the basket. A dandy game for a dandy crowd. This is almost a home game for the Spartans, but the "Cats" play good defense, too. This one will go down to the wire with Kentucky pulling it out in the end!!!

5 Units Georgia Tech -14 -103

Georgia Tech has come out of the gate smoking hot. Tech has shocked everyone by going 7-0 SU (7-0 ATS). The Ramblin Wreck is averaging 82 points a game. Interestingly, Tech games have only gone OVER once this year (1-4 overall). This is absolutely due to Tech’s stifling defense. Tech is only allowing 56 points per game this season. This will be tough for St. Louis (3-2 SU, 1-2 ATS) to overcome since they are only averaging 57 points as a team on the road. Last time out, the Billikans did play surprised Arizona tough before losing in the last minute, 68-67. However, that was a Home game. This experience will be much tougher. Tech is dominated by Guard, BJ Elder (16 ppg, 4 rpg). St. Louis will have no answers for Elder or anyone else. Too many weapons and defense at Home!!!

5 Units Arkansas State -5 -110

This shapes up as a run-and-gun shootout between two terrific offensive teams. Southern Miss (4-1) hasn't really been tested and has a strong offensive punch of 6'-7" senior Charles Gaines (15.8 ppg, 11 rpg) and 6'-7" sophomore Jasper Johnson (14 ppg, 6 rpg) while quick guard Dante Stiggers (6 apg) runs the break. Of concern is that they've only played one road game and got hammered 94-54 at Murray State as a +8 dog!!! Arkansas State (5-1 SU, 1-1 ATS) has been playing very well with a lot of experience and depth this season. Two outstanding scorers lead the way in 6-5” junior JJ Montgomery (21 ppg) and 6’-4” junior Dewarick Spencer (20 ppg, who leads the team in assists), and they have a ton of good role players in 6’-1” senior Tevoris Thompson, 6’-8” senior Kim Adams (10 rebounds per game) and 6’-7” sophomore Chris Moore. They have an impressive 74-69 win at Ole Miss as a +11 dog!!! Arkansas State beat Southern Miss 64-48 a year ago as a +10 road dog, and they'll do it again, though with much more scoring!!!

5 Units Tennessee +4.5 -110

Tennessee (3-0 SU & 1-2 ATS) gets its first road test of the season at Nebraska. To win away from home, the Vols will have to continue to play aggressively, which means attacking the basket and battling for offensive rebounds. They must also keep turnovers to a minimum and eliminate hasty shots. Early in the season, Tennessee is shooting 51 percent and averaging 90 points while limiting its opposition to 38 percent shooting. The star after three games, as everyone expected, is 6'5" junior Scooter McFadgon, the Memphis transfer who leads the team with his 22 points-per-game scoring average. Point guard 6'2" CJ Watson has been impressive. The Vols are a better team when 6'10" Brandon Crump plays to his potential. He's averaging nearly a double-double. The Cornhuskers might still be on cloud 9 following the 66-60 win over Arizona State last week, and they just lost their first game against Creighton. John Turek (averaging 9 points), guards Jake Muhleisen (10 ppg), Nate Johnson and 6'-8" Andrew Drevo are playing well. Looks like a defensive battle!!!

5 Units Pittsburgh -24.5 -107

The Youngstown State Penguins (2-4) have two wins over cupcakes and just lost 86-66 at Buffalo!!! Defense is a problem and they have two decent players in 6’-8” senior center Adam Baumann (12 ppg, 6 rpg) and forward 6’-6” senior TeJay Anderson (10 ppg, 7 rpg). Still, this team was 1-15 SU/5-7 ATS on the road last year. Pitt was a national powerhouse a year ago (28-5 SU & 17-11 ATS) and they've picked up where they left off with a 71-62 win over Alabama in game one this year before getting to the Little Sisters of the Poor part of the schedule, which includes this game. They're now (6-0 SU & 2-0 ATS). Returnees Julius Page and Jaron Brown and a versatile cast of young and old insure that the Panthers will make plenty of noise once again and they will have little trouble here!!!

3 Units Ball State -2 -109

A defensive duel as the MAC meets the Missouri Valley Conference. Ball State has a decent frontcourt and good depth with 6’-8” senior Cameron Echols (6 rpg) and 6’-7” senior swingman Robert Owens (13 ppg), and a backcourt of 6’-6” junior Terrance Chapman and 6’3” junior Dennis Trammell (16 ppg). Ball State was just 3-11 SU & 6-8 ATS on the road last season, but they have more experience and confidence this year. The Indiana State Sycamores (2-3 SU & 1-2 ATS) have no offense, shooting 39% as a team. Youth and a lack of height are the reasons, led by 6’-5” sophomore guard David Moss (15 ppg) and 6’-7” junior Amani Daanish. The Sycamores were a poor 5-9 SU & 3-11 ATS at home last season and Ball State beat them 76-68 as a 10-point home favorite. Don't look for that much scoring this time around!!!

3 Units Indiana U -5.5 -108

Can the Butler Bulldogs (3-3) hang with mighty Indiana??? They can if they play defense, which they always do. Butler allowed 62 ppg on the road last season and allows 59 ppg overall so far this year. On the other hand, this is a young team that has had trouble scoring (40% shooting) and they've dropped 3 of 4. They are not a tall team, either, led by 6’-6” senior forward Mike Monserez (10 ppg, 6 rpg) and 6’-5” senior Duane Lightfoot (11 ppg, 6 rpg). The Indiana Hoosiers (3-3 SU & 2-4 ATS) closed out a two game losing streak with a 66-63 thriller fron South Bend this week as Bracey Wright with 19 points and Sean Klein with 12 led Indiana to the "W". Wright is the only Hoosier averaging in double figures, scoring 21 ppg. In the ACC/Big Ten challenge, Wake Forest attacked Indiana's interior defense with abandon. The Deacons had no problems making the extra pass in their 100-67 win. Indiana is looking for scorers to take pressure off Wright. He's too much of a one man band but at home IU should step up to this in-state challenge from Butler in a defensive game!!!

Thanks guys, I wish that more cappers here explained there selections. I think that most of them (not all) couldn't even name the head coach or the starting five players without looking them up. I might have a few play up tommarrow and may post a few NFL.
