Broncos/Titans UNDER 50

The bottom line here is that Denver is fighting for their playoff lives. I have mentioned the following several times alrady this season, and it is worth considering again. In the offseason, Denver head coach Mike Shanahan did everything he could to improve his DEFENSE since that was the ticket to Carolina making the Super Bowl. In that now infamous trade with Washington involving star rusher Clinton Portis, the Broncos got back All Pro cover Champ Bailey. The Broncos also added long-time Tampa Bay star Jon Lynch which created a very solid secondary. Through most of the early part of the season, Denver was ranked as one of the BEST defensive teams in the entire league. One of the reasons why Denver has been slumping of late is due to defensive failures, along with the severe inconsistency of QB Jake Plummer who has been plauged by interceptions. The KEY factor to consider is that the last 3 times Denver has won a game outright, the defense held the opposition to 17-or-LESS points!! Since Denver is now in a three-way battle for an AFC playoff spot, they desperately need the defense to "step up" tonight, especially the secondary. The odds of that happening are good because Tennessee star 1,000 yard RB Chris Brown has joined quarterback Steve McNair on the sidelines for the remainder of the season, as he never fully recovered from a turf toe injury. With Tennessee now without an effective rushing option, reserve QB Billy Volek will have to continue to THROW the football. Volek has the chance to become the first player in league history to throw for at least 400 yards in three straight games. But Denver's strength on defense once again is in their secondary, so I am taking advantage of tonight's inflated posted total. I am having a difficult time with the "side" of tonight's game since Tennessee coach Jeff Fisher has been one of the league's best "underdog" wagers in recent seasons. However, Denver is still in a playoff race, and the Titans defense is injury-ravaged. Thus I am only going to deal with the TOTAL. Denver is 6-1 UNDER on the road against teams with a losing record. They are 7-0 UNDER on the road after a game where the defense allowed at least 7 yards per pass attempt, which was the case at KC last week. Here is a 38-15 System that dates back to 1983. This 71% system plays teams like Denver coming off a double-digit loss as a road favorite UNDER the total against an opponent who is coming off a road loss. If you look at that system closely, this posted total was way too high.

GOOD LUCK
