Preview: Twins at Yankees

GAME: Minnesota Twins (23-50) at New York Yankees (36-36)
DATE/TIME: Saturday, June 25 - 1:05 PM EST
WHERE: Yankee Stadium, Bronx, New York
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

First baseman Mark Teixeira is expected to return to the lineup on Saturday afternoon when the New York Yankees continue their three-game series against the visiting Minnesota Twins. The Yankees moved back to the .500 mark with a 5-3 win in the series opener, their fourth victory in five games over Minnesota in a nine-day span.

Teixeira, sidelined since June 3 with torn cartilage in his knee, went 1-for-9 on a three-game rehab assignment and was batting .180 with three homers at the time of the injury. Teixeira's replacement, Rob Refsnyder, delivered the go-ahead RBI single Friday for New York, which has scored 41 runs during a 5-2 stretch. Catcher Kurt Suzuki is 9-for-17 with two homers, four doubles and eight RBIs during a five-game hitting streak for the Twins. Right-hander Ervin Santana looks to beat the Yankees for the second time in a week when he opposes Michael Pineda on Saturday.

TV: 1:05 p.m. ET, FSN North (Minnesota), WPIX (New York)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Twins RH Ervin Santana (2-7, 4.83 ERA) vs. Yankees RH Michael Pineda (3-7, 5.82)

Santana turned in his best effort in a month against the Yankees on Sunday, permitting three runs (two earned) on six hits over 7 1/3 innings to earn his first victory since May 14. It snapped a five-start losing streak for Santana, who gave up 24 runs and seven homers during the skid and at least nine hits in three of the five outings. Santana is 6-9 overall versus New York and has never won at the new Yankee Stadium, posting an 0-4 record and 8.14 ERA.

Pineda's season of inconsistency continued in last weekend's start against the Yankees, when he matched his season high with nine strikeouts but also gave up four runs (three earned) in 5 1/3 innings in a no-decision. He turned in a quality start in each of his previous two outings, taking a hard-luck loss versus Detroit on June 12 after giving up two runs in six innings. Pineda has made four career starts against the Twins, going 1-1 with a 4.09 ERA.

WALK-OFFS

1. The Yankees are 24-4 this season when scoring at least five runs.

2. The Twins traded OF Oswaldo Arcia to Tampa Bay on Friday for a player to be named later or cash.

3. Yankees RF Carlos Beltran had an RBI double to give him 518 two-baggers, good for 49th place on the all-time list.

GAME: Tampa Bay Rays (31-40) at Baltimore Orioles (42-30)
DATE/TIME: Saturday, June 25 - 1:05 PM EST
WHERE: Oriole Park at Camden Yards, Baltimore, Maryland
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The American League East-leading Baltimore Orioles look to build off a series-opening victory when they host the struggling Tampa Bay Rays in a split doubleheader on Saturday. The Orioles rallied from a three-run deficit Friday with a two-run single by Chris Davis and solo homers from Adam Jones and Manny Machado to record a 6-3 triumph.

Jones has hit safely in five straight games while batting in the leadoff spot and Davis is 8-for-20 with four RBIs in the last five contests for Baltimore, which has won four of its last six contests. The Rays have lost a season-high eight straight games and will look to Corey Dickerson to add offense after going 4-for-10 with a homer, three RBIs and three walks in the last three contests. Tampa Bay has dropped into the cellar in the AL East, 10 ½ games behind the Orioles, and have managed 18 runs during their losing streak. Evan Longoria boasts nine homers in June and has had plenty of success against Baltimore with 30 blasts in 131 encounters.

TV: 1:05 p.m. ET, MLB Network, FSN Sun (Tampa Bay), MASN (Baltimore)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Rays RH Matt Andriese (6-0, 2.88 ERA) vs. Orioles RH Kevin Gausman (0-5, 4.37)

Andriese makes his first start since June 10 after making three straight appearances out of the bullpen, including Wednesday at Cleveland. The 26-year-old Californian yielded three or fewer runs in six of his seven starts and has surrendered just two homers in 50 innings overall. Davis has homered versus Andriese, who gave up four runs in three innings of relief against Baltimore last season.

Gausman permitted four runs and nine hits over five innings Monday against Texas to suffer a fourth loss in his last six contests. The 25-year-old LSU product has struck out 62 and walked 18 in 68 innings overall while allowing 12 homers – five shy of last year’s total. Logan Forsythe is 4-for-7 with two doubles and a homer versus Gausman, who is 2-4 with a 5.65 ERA in 10 games (eight starts) against the Rays.

WALK-OFFS

1. Baltimore 2B Jonathan Schoop has hit safely in six straight games, going 12-for-25 in that span.

2. Tampa Bay acquired OF Oswaldo Arcia from Minnesota on Thursday and he is expected to be available for the Rays on Saturday.

3. Orioles LHP Zach Britton is 22-for-22 in save opportunities this season and boasts 37 strikeouts over 31 2/3 innings.

GAME: Toronto Blue Jays (40-35) at Chicago White Sox (37-37)
DATE/TIME: Saturday, June 25 - 2:10 PM EST
WHERE: U.S. Cellular Field, Chicago, Illinois
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

Melky Cabrera has found his batting stroke, raising his average 15 points in three days, and aims for another productive outing when the Chicago White Sox host the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday in the middle contest of a three-game set. Cabrera went 3-for-4 with a homer in the series-opening 3-2 win over Toronto and is 8-for-15 with two blasts and five RBIs over his last three games.

Todd Frazier recorded two hits in the opener, including the tiebreaking single in the seventh inning that represented Chicago's lone hit in 14 at-bats with runners in scoring position. Former Blue Jay Brett Lawrie notched three hits to improve to 5-for-8 over the last two contests as the White Sox won for the fourth time in five games. Toronto has dropped four of its last five contests and its usually potent offense has scored just two runs in three of the defeats. Blue Jays slugger Edwin Encarnacion, who leads the American League with 62 RBIs, struck out in four of five hitless at-bats in the opener and is 5-for-28 with three homers and 10 RBIs against scheduled starter Miguel Gonzalez.

TV: 2:10 p.m. ET, Sportsnet (Toronto), CSN Chicago

PITCHING MATCHUP: Blue Jays RH R.A. Dickey (4-8, 4.08 ERA) vs. White Sox RH Miguel Gonzalez (1-2, 4.29)

Dickey has lost back-to-back starts after winning his previous two outings. The knuckleballer has a 3.03 ERA over his last five turns while giving up three or fewer runs in each of the starts. Dickey allowed six runs and eight hits in six innings of a loss to Chicago on April 26 to drop to 2-6 with a 7.57 ERA in 12 career appearances (eight starts) against the White Sox and has served up three homers to Jose Abreu and two apiece to Cabrera and Frazier.

Gonzalez has allowed one run in two of his last three starts, including his last turn against Boston in which he gave up four hits in 6 2/3 innings of a no-decision. He experienced his worst showing of the season between the two good efforts when he allowed seven runs and eight hits over 3 1/3 frames in a loss to Detroit. Gonzalez is 7-3 with a 2.99 ERA in 14 career appearances (13 starts) against Toronto, including a no-decision this season in which he allowed five runs and a season-worst 11 hits in 5 1/3 innings.

WALK-OFFS

1. Blue Jays 1B Justin Smoak sat out Friday and underwent X-rays after fouling a ball off his knee on Wednesday.

2. Abreu, who has recorded 10 multi-hit peformances in June, was rested Friday due to sore legs and is expected back in the lineup on Saturday.

3. Toronto 3B Josh Donaldson is 5-for-10 over his last three contests but has gone five games without an RBI.

GAME: Cleveland Indians (42-30) at Detroit Tigers (38-36)
DATE/TIME: Saturday, June 25 - 4:10 PM EST
WHERE: Comerica Park, Detroit, Michigan
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The Cleveland Indians are continuing to build a lead atop the American League Central and the Detroit Tigers have provided little resistance in slowing down their division rivals. The Indians look to extend their winning streak to eight games and improve to 8-0 against the Tigers when the teams play the second of a three-game set Saturday in Detroit.

Cleveland has outscored the Tigers 45-16 this season after opening its 10-game road trip by breezing to a 7-4 victory in the series opener. Jason Kipnis had two of his team's four triples and drove in three runs for the Indians, who also have amassed 45 runs during the overall seven-game winning streak. Cameron Maybin collected three hits and two RBIs for Detroit, which dropped five games behind Cleveland after having its four-game winning streak halted with only its second loss in the last 11 games at Comerica Park. Tigers right-hander Anibal Sanchez has already lost twice to the Indians as he prepares to make his first start since May 31.

TV: 4:10 p.m. ET, SportsTime Ohio (Cleveland), FSN Detroit

PITCHING MATCHUP: Indians RH Carlos Carrasco (2-2, 3.26 ERA) vs. Tigers RH Anibal Sánchez (4-7, 5.97)

Carrasco, winless in four starts since injuring a hamstring versus Detroit and spending 5 1/2 weeks on the disabled list, took a no-decision last time out despite working 7 1/3 strong innings of two-run ball against the Chicago White Sox. He also allowed two runs (on 10 hits) while striking out eight over six innings in a loss to Kansas City in his previous outing. Miguel Cabrera is 9-for-24 versus Carrasco, who is 4-6 with a 6.02 ERA against the Tigers.

Sanchez makes his return to the starting rotation after a three-week stay in the bullpen, where he allowed two runs in six appearances. Sanchez was demoted after a six-start stretch in which he went 0-4 and was throttled for 29 runs, capped by a three-inning stint versus the Los Angeles Angels in which he was tagged for six runs. He's allowed 11 runs over 11 innings in two losses to the Indians this season to fall to 4-5 with a 3.72 ERA against them.

WALK-OFFS

1. Indians C Yan Gomes, who is 7-for-14 versus Sanchez, sat out Friday after having a cyst drained but is expected to be available Saturday.

2. Cabrera is 1-for-15 over the last four games.

3. The Indians last had four triples in a game in August 2001 at Texas; the last three times they had three triples were at Comerica Park.

GAME: Washington Nationals (43-31) at Milwaukee Brewers (33-40)
DATE/TIME: Saturday, June 25 - 4:10 PM EST
WHERE: Miller Park, Milwaukee, Wisconsin
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

A road trip that began with promise is turning into a disaster for the Washington Nationals, who look to avoid a seventh consecutive defeat when they continue their three-game series against the host Milwaukee Brewers on Saturday afternoon. Pitching continues to plague Washington, which has allowed at least four runs in all but one game during its 2-6 trek.

Wilson Ramos went 4-for-5 to extend his hitting streak to eight games and Daniel Murphy contributed two hits and two RBIs in Friday's 5-3 loss for the Nationals. Reigning National League MVP Bryce Harper is 5-for-25 during the six-game skid for Washington, which saw its lead atop the National League East cut to three games. Kirk Nieuwenhuis hit a tiebreaking two-run homer and Keon Broxton delivered a pinch-hit solo blast to lift Milwaukee to its second straight win following a 1-7 slide. Brewers right-hander Matt Garza will make his third start of the season against slumping lefty Gio Gonzalez on Saturday.

TV: 4:10 p.m. ET, MASN2 (Washington), FSN Wisconsin (Milwaukee)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Nationals LH Gio González (3-6, 4.25 ERA) vs. Brewers RH Matt Garza (0-0, 0.90)

Gonzalez owned a major league-leading 1.86 ERA after beating the New York Mets on May 18, but he has seen it climb to 4.25 over a dismal six-start stretch in which he is 0-5. The latest setback came at San Diego on Sunday, when he was knocked around for six runs - five earned - and walked four batters in 5 1/3 innings. Gonzalez has lost his last three outings away from home, but he is 2-1 with a 3.62 ERA in five career starts versus Milwaukee.

After he was reached for one run and eight hits over four frames at San Francisco in his season debut, Garza amped up his game last time out at the Los Angeles Dodgers. He scattered five hits over six scoreless frames and did not walk a batter but came away with a no-decision. Garza never has beaten the Nationals in eight starts, posting an 0-4 record and unsightly 7.17 ERA, and has had trouble versus Harper (3-for-6) and Ramos (5-for-13).

WALK-OFFS

1. Washington's Nos. 6-8 hitters were a combined 0-for-10 with nine strikeouts in the series opener.

2. Brewers 3B Aaron Hill has hit safely in six of his last seven games following a two-run single Friday.

3. Nationals RHP Stephen Strasburg (back), who missed his last start, had two ribs popped back into place this week and is expected to pitch Sunday.

GAME: Arizona Diamondbacks (36-40) at Colorado Rockies (34-39)
DATE/TIME: Saturday, June 25 - 4:10 PM EST
WHERE: Coors Field, Denver, Colorado
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The Arizona Diamondbacks attempt to maintain their success on their current road trip as they visit the Colorado Rockies for the third contest of a four-game series on Saturday afternoon. Arizona is 7-1 on its 10-game trek after posting a pair of one-run victories at Coors Field.

Yasmany Tomas has hit safely in six of his last seven contests, going 9-for-30 with five home runs and nine RBIs in that span. Colorado looks to avoid a four-game losing streak as it rallied from a five-run deficit Friday to take a 9-8 lead, only to allow two runs in the top of the ninth inning for a 10-9 setback. DJ LeMahieu has been on fire at the plate, recording multi-hit performances in four of his last five contests - with three being three-hit efforts. The 27-year-old has gone 15-for-38 over his last nine games.

TV: 4:10 p.m. ET, FSN Arizona, ROOT (Colorado)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Diamondbacks RH Shelby Miller (2-6, 6.36 ERA) vs. Rockies LH Jorge De La Rosa (4-4, 7.17)

Miller was impressive on Monday in his first start since May 24 due to a finger injury, limiting offensively challenged Philadelphia to one run and five hits over a season-high 6 2/3 innings to halt his three-start losing streak. It marked the fourth time this year the 25-year-old Texan allowed fewer than three runs and first since May 7, when he gave up two at Atlanta en route to his only other victory of 2016. Miller is 2-3 with one shutout and a 5.08 ERA in seven career starts against the Rockies overall and 0-1 with an abysmal 9.39 ERA in two outings at Coors Field.

De La Rosa has won both of his starts since rejoining the rotation, tossing five scoreless innings against the New York Yankees on June 14 before yielding three runs over six frames in a victory at Miami on Monday. The 35-year-old Mexican had been moved to the bullpen after being tagged for seven runs on nine hits and three walks at Boston on May 24. De La Rosa owns a 9-8 record and 3.17 ERA in 27 career games (23 starts) against Arizona.

WALK-OFFS

1. Diamondbacks SS Nick Ahmed was held out of the starting lineup Friday due to hip issues but entered as a defensive replacement later in the game.

2. Colorado RHP Jake McGee (knee) threw a 20-pitch bullpen session Friday and will work another on Sunday.

3. Arizona placed OF Socrates Brito on the 15-day disabled list with a fractured right big toe and recalled INF/OF Brandon Drury from Triple-A Reno.

GAME: Chicago Cubs (48-24) at Miami Marlins (39-35)
DATE/TIME: Saturday, June 25 - 4:10 PM EST
WHERE: Marlins Park, Miami, Florida
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

With their longest losing streak of the season behind them, the Chicago Cubs look to begin a winning streak with a second straight victory over the host Miami Marlins on Saturday. The Cubs evened the four-game series with a 5-4 win Friday, ending their season-high four-game skid.

The Cubs hope to get a boost from the potential return of slugging first baseman Anthony Rizzo, who has missed the first two games of the series with lower back tightness. Chicago has several key players on the shelf with injuries, but the youth movement picked up the slack Friday with Javier Baez driving in a run and making an impact with his glove at third base while Willson Contreras knocked in three runs. The Marlins managed only two hits – one of them a Justin Bour grand slam – while losing for just the fourth time in 11 games. Miami has hit 11 home runs in its past eight games, including three in the first two games of the series.

TV: 4:10 p.m. ET, WGN (Chicago), FSN Florida (Miami)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Cubs RH John Lackey (7-3, 2.78 ERA) vs. Marlins RH Paul Clemens (0-0, 5.40)

Lackey labored through the first two innings Monday against St. Louis but kept the Cubs in the game before suffering a tough-luck loss in a 3-2 defeat. The 37-year-old allowed three runs and seven hits over six innings for his 10th consecutive quality start. Lackey is 1-0 with a 1.80 ERA in two starts against the Marlins.

Clemens made his first big-league start since 2013 on Monday against Colorado. The 28-year-old surrendered three runs – all on solo homers – over five innings in a no-decision. Clemens made a relief appearance against the Cubs in 2013 and allowed a hit and a walk in one-third of an inning.

WALK-OFFS

1. Contreras has hit safely in all six games in which he has had a plate appearance and is batting .412 with three home runs.

2. Marlins OF Ichiro Suzuki, who needs four hits to tie Sam Rice (2,987) for 30th on the all-time MLB list, is a career .303 hitter in 119 plate appearances against Lackey.

3. The Cubs are 32-6 when scoring first and 45-0 when leading after eight innings.

GAME: San Diego Padres (32-43) at Cincinnati Reds (28-46)
DATE/TIME: Saturday, June 25 - 4:10 PM EST
WHERE: Great American Ball Park, Cincinnati, Ohio
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The San Diego Padres look to stay red hot at the plate when they continue a four-game series at the Cincinnati Reds on Saturday. Behind Wil Myers and Melvin Upton, Jr., who combined to go 6-for-10 with three homers and nine RBIs, the Padres rolled to a 13-4 win over the Reds on Friday night.

It was San Diego's fifth win in the last six games, during which it has averaged 7.5 runs. Myers is making a bid to be a part of the All-Star Game when it takes place in San Diego next month, batting .349 with 10 homers and 28 RBIs in June alone. He and Upton helped spoil the start of Big Red Machine weekend in Cincinnati, as several members of the 1976 championship team were honored prior to Friday's game and all-time hits king Pete Rose will be inducted into the Reds Hall of Fame prior to Saturday's tilt. The pitching matchup will feature a pair of lefties and former first-round picks as San Diego's Drew Pomeranz opposes Brandon Finnegan.

TV: 4:10 p.m. ET, Fox Sports 1, FSN Ohio (CIncinnati)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Padres LH Drew Pomeranz (6-7, 3.00 ERA) vs. Reds LH Brandon Finnegan (3-5, 3.81)

Pomeranz's last four starts have come at home, including a win against Washington on Sunday when he allowed three runs on three solo shots in six innings. The three home runs were a season high but he also struck out seven batters and has fanned at least six in each of his last five outings. The 27-year-old owns a 2.61 ERA in two career starts versus the Reds.

Finnegan had his shortest start in over a month when he gave up four runs in five innings of a loss to Houston on Sunday. The TCU product was 2-0 with a 1.86 ERA over his previous three outings. Finnegan, who has never faced the Padres, has a 2.78 mark in eight career games (four starts) in June.

WALK-OFFS

1. San Diego has won 11 of the last 14 meetings.

2. Cincinnati pitchers are hitless in their last 45 at-bats, the team's longest such slide since an 0-for-55 stretch in 1971.

3. Padres CF Jon Jay (arm) has missed four straight games.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Rays RH Jake Odorizzi (3-3, 3.63 ERA) vs. Orioles RH Chris Tillman (10-1, 3.11)

Odorizzi allowed one run and four hits with eight strikeouts and no walks over six innings last time out against San Francisco, but was left out the decision in a 5-1 loss. The 26-year-old is 3-1 in his last four decisions and has yielded two or fewer runs in 10 of 15 starts overall. Manny Machado is 7-for-22 with two homers versus Odorizzi, who is 2-3 (0-1 in two starts this year) with a 4.64 ERA lifetime against Baltimore.

Tillman gave up one run in 11 2/3 innings to win both starts against the Rays in April and is 7-9 lifetime versus Tampa Bay with a 3.98 ERA in 22 games. The 28-year-old has not lost since April 14 – a span of 12 contests – also permitting two or fewer runs in 10 of 15 outings. GAME: Houston Astros (38-36) at Kansas City Royals (38-34)
DATE/TIME: Saturday, June 25 - 7:15 PM EST
WHERE: Kauffman Stadium, Kansas City, Missouri
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The Houston Astros were slow out of the blocks to begin the season, but they sure have made up for lost time in a hurry. Winners of a season-high six in a row and 21 of their last 29, the visiting Astros will look to continue their rapid ascent on Saturday when they play the second contest of their three-game series versus the Kansas City Royals.

Speaking of fast starts, Houston enjoyed quite a blistering beginning in the series opener on Friday as George Springer's grand slam highlighted a nine-run first inning en route to a convincing 13-4 victory. The former University of Connecticut product fell a double shy of the cycle and finished with five RBIs, but is 0-for-8 in his career versus Saturday starter Chris Young. While the Astros have erupted for 40 runs during their winning streak, the Royals have mustered just eight during their three-game losing skid while Friday's setback was just their second in the last 14 at home. Kansas City could see a familiar face on Saturday with the expected return to the starting lineup of Alex Gordon, who has been sidelined by a broken bone near his right wrist.

TV: 7:15 p.m. ET, FOX

PITCHING MATCHUP: Astros RH Mike Fiers (5-3, 4.42 ERA) vs. Royals RH Chris Young (2-6, 5.61)

Fiers scattered four hits and struck out five in a 6-0 win over Cincinnati on Sunday to improve to 2-0 with a 2.63 ERA in his last four starts (24 innings). The 31-year-old has dropped both career regular-season outings versus Kansas City, posting a bloated 7.36 ERA while allowing the opposition to bat .326 against him. Alcides Escobar has collected multi-hit performances in four of his last five outings and is 2-for-6 in a small sample size versus Fiers.

Young has shaved a little more than a full run off his enormous ERA by sandwiching a pair of scoreless short stints around his last two strong outings. The 37-year-old allowed one run on three hits and struck out seven in six innings of a no-decision versus Detroit on Sunday. Young owns a 4-2 career mark versus Houston, although he left plenty for which to be desired following his six-run, nine-hit performance in his last encounter.

WALK-OFFS

1. Houston 2B Jose Altuve, who is riding a six-game hitting streak, has reached base in 27 consecutive contests - which is two shy of matching his career high.

2. Kansas City top prospect SS Raul Mondesi, who was suspended 50 games by Major League Baseball for violating the Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program, is expected to begin a rehab assignment a Class-A Advanced Wilmington on Saturday.

3. The Astros will recall prize prospect 1B A.J. Reed from Triple-A Fresno prior to Saturday's game. Manager A.J. Finch told reporters that Reed will be the team's DH in his debut.

DATE/TIME: Saturday, June 25 - 7:15 PM EST
WHERE: PNC Park, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The Pittsburgh Pirates have struggled mightily of late, but they have routinely righted the ship when the Los Angeles Dodgers pay a visit to PNC Park. The sputtering Pirates vie for their 10th victory in 12 home encounters versus the Dodgers on Saturday when the clubs play the second contest of their four-game series.

Matt Joyce fell a triple shy of the cycle and drove in two runs in Friday's 8-6 victory for Pittsburgh, which posted just its third victory in 16 outings and handed Clint Hurdle his 1,000th managerial win. Los Angeles may have seen its six-game winning streak come to a halt, but rookie Corey Seager has showed no signs of slowing down. The 22-year-old collected four hits in the series opener and is 16-for-34 with six runs scored during his eight-game hitting streak. The mercurial Yasiel Puig, who is 5-for-11 with three runs scored in his last three contests, went deep on Friday to give his team 14 consecutive games with at least one homer - tying Washington for the longest such streak this season.

TV: 7:15 p.m. ET, FOX

PITCHING MATCHUP: Dodgers RH Kenta Maeda (6-4, 2.64 ERA) vs. Pirates LH Jeff Locke (6-5, 5.44)

Maeda turned in his fifth straight strong outing on Sunday but settled for a no-decision despite yielding one run and striking out eight in 6 1/3 innings against Milwaukee. The 28-year-old native of Japan has permitted five earned runs on 25 hits during his last five starts (29 2/3 innings), posting a 3-1 mark in the process. Maeda has also made himself comfortable on the road with a 4-0 mark and 2.14 ERA while allowing the opposition to bat just .185 versus him.

Locke rebounded with a vengeance after yielding 18 runs on 20 hits in his previous two horrific outings (8 2/3 innings) by scattering five hits over 6 2/3 scoreless frames in a 1-0 win over San Francisco on Monday. The 28-year-old did not walk a batter after issuing four free passes in his rough two-start stretch. Locke has struggled in his career versus the Dodgers, falling to 1-3 after permitting five runs on eight hits in 6 1/3 innings in his last encounter.

WALK-OFFS

1. Pittsburgh SS Jordy Mercer is riding a nine-game hitting streak.

2. Los Angeles 2B Chase Utley has overcome a sluggish start to the month by hitting safely in six in a row and nine of his last 11 contests.

3. Pirates LHP Tony Watson has recorded a scoreless inning of work in each of his last seven appearances after yielding seven runs on six hits in his previous three outings.

GAME: New York Mets (39-33) at Atlanta Braves (25-48)
DATE/TIME: Saturday, June 25 - 7:15 PM EST
WHERE: Turner Field, Atlanta, Georgia
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

Julio Teheran makes his second start in seven days against the New York Mets on Saturday in Atlanta, and the Braves’ ace can only top his last start by throwing a perfect game. Teheran dazzled the Mets in a one-hit shutout last Sunday, walking no one, and looks to power the Braves to an eighth victory in 10 games after New York held off the Braves 8-6 Friday.

Atlanta is playing its best baseball of the season but New York’s offense broke out in a big way Friday, getting three hits from Neil Walker, and two hits and three RBIs from James Loney in building an 8-0 lead before the Braves rallied with a six-run fifth. Acquired in a trade with San Diego last month, Loney is 9-for-20 in his past six games. Walker entered the series on an 0-for-15 skid but is 5-for-6 with three runs scored in the first two games of the set. Jeurys Familia recorded his 25th save Friday, setting a franchise record for most converted to start a season without blowing one, and has saved a franchise-record 41 consecutive opportunities.

TV: 7:15 p.m. ET, Fox

PITCHING MATCHUP: Mets RH Jacob deGrom (3-4, 2.96 ERA) vs. Braves RH Julio Teheran (3-7, 2.66)

It was deGrom who was on the other end of the Teheran gem Sunday, giving up three runs on five hits with six strikeouts in six innings. He has dropped his past four decisions and run support is a big reason why, as New York’s struggling offense has scored just two runs in deGrom’s four June outings. He beat Atlanta on April 24, giving up one run in 5 2/3 innings, and is 3-3 in seven career starts against the Braves with 50 strikeouts and eight walks in 44 innings.

Teheran struggled through most of 2015 after back-to-back 14-win seasons, but the 25-year-old is enjoying arguably the best season of his career despite a low win total. Teheran is second in the National League in WHIP (0.91) and eighth in WAR for pitchers (2.9), while posting career bests in hits allowed per nine innings (six) and strikeouts-to-walks ratio (3.83). The Braves have averaged 2.41 runs for Teheran, who is 3-4 with a 1.83 ERA in his past 10 outings.

WALK-OFFS

1. According to published reports, New York could be close to signing its former SS Jose Reyes, who was released by Colorado.

2. Atlanta P Mike Foltynewicz (bone spurs in right elbow) is scheduled to throw approximately 75 pitches in a rehab start Saturday for Triple-A Gwinnett.

3. Braves 3B Adonis Garcia is hitting .375 in his past 11 games with two doubles, three homers, seven runs scored and eight RBIs.

GAME: Boston Red Sox (41-32) at Texas Rangers (47-27)
DATE/TIME: Saturday, June 25 - 9:20 PM EST
WHERE: Globe Life Park in Arlington, Arlington, Texas
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The Texas Rangers squandered an early six-run lead and saw the bottom fall out in the ninth inning to suffer a stunning setback in their series opener versus the visiting Boston Red Sox. The Rangers look to prevent their first series loss since being swept by American League West-rival Oakland from May 16-18 when they play the second contest of the three-game set on Saturday.

Texas, which is 10-0-1 in its last 11 series, absorbed just its fifth loss in 21 outings after Mookie Betts belted Boston's third two-run homer of the contest and Dustin Pedroia scored on a wild pitch in Friday's wild 8-7 victory. Betts has recorded five multi-hit performances in his last seven games overall and has a .342 lifetime average versus the Rangers. Ian Desmond collected three singles in the series opener and is 16-for-36 with three homers and six RBIs in his last 10 games. The 30-year-old is 12-for-28 with one homer and nine RBIs in seven meetings with Boston but has yet to face Saturday starter Steven Wright in his career.

TV: 9:20 p.m. ET, NESN (Boston), FSN Southwest (Texas)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Red Sox RH Steven Wright (8-4, 2.01 ERA) vs. Rangers RH A.J. Griffin (3-0, 2.94)

Wright won his previous five starts before settling for a no-decision on Monday versus the Chicago White Sox, against whom he allowed one run and five hits in nine innings. The 31-year-old has been doing his best work at night this season, posting a 6-1 record while holding the opposition to a .203 batting average. Wright struggled in his lone previous start versus Texas, surrendering two homers in 5 2/3 innings en route to the loss.

Griffin is slated to return from a six-week stay on the disabled list due to right shoulder inflammation. The 28-year-old pleased manager Jeff Banister with his third rehab start at Double-A Frisco in which he allowed one earned run and struck out seven in five innings. Griffin owns a 2-1 mark and 3.60 ERA in four career starts versus Boston, with each outing occurring during the 2012 and 2013 seasons while with Oakland.

WALK-OFFS

1. Boston 1B Hanley Ramirez didn't like being dropped to seventh in the lineup prior to Wednesday's contest, as he has two homers, four RBIs and as many runs scored in his last three games.

2. Texas 1B Prince Fielder belted a solo homer to extend his hitting streak to six games after going 2-for-17 in his previous five.

3. Rangers OF Shin-Soo Choo has launched a solo homer in back-to-back contests.

GAME: Oakland Athletics (31-42) at Los Angeles Angels (31-43)
DATE/TIME: Saturday, June 25 - 10:05 PM EST
WHERE: Angel Stadium of Anaheim, Anaheim, California
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

Albert Pujols looks to gain sole possession of 11th place on the all-time home run list while the Los Angeles Angels attempt to halt a five-game slide when they host the Oakland Athletics on Saturday. Pujols belted his 573rd career homer in Friday's 7-4 loss to pull even with Harmon Killebrew.

The blast ended a 15-game drought for the slugger, who hadn't gone deep since June 5 at Pittsburgh. Oakland has won three straight on the road, following a triumph at Cincinnati on June 12 with wins in the first two contests of the four-game series. Khris Davis homered for the second consecutive game after going 3-for-22 over his previous six contests, belting a three-run shot in the eighth inning Friday to snap a 4-4 deadlock. After collecting three RBIs in the series opener, Marcus Semien went 3-for-4 for the second time in his last four contests to raise his average to .244 — the highest it has been since April 16 (.257).

TV: 10:05 p.m. ET, CSN California (Oakland), FSN West (Los Angeles)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Athletics LH Dillon Overton (NR) vs. Angels RH Jhoulys Chacin (3-5, 5.50)

Overton will be summoned from Triple-A Nashville to make his major-league debut Saturday. The 24-year-old from Oklahoma has posted an 8-4 record with one complete game and a 3.01 ERA in 14 games (13 starts) for the Sounds this year. A second-round pick in the 2013 draft, Overton won each of his last seven starts for Nashville and did not allow an earned run in his last three outings.

Chacin lasted only two innings at Houston on Monday, surrendering six runs (five earned) on six hits and five walks en route to a loss. The 28-year-old Venezuelan has struggled in four outings this month, giving up 18 runs and 26 hits with 13 walks and only seven strikeouts over 17 1/3 frames. Chacin settled for a no-decision in his only career start against Oakland despite allowing only two runs and five hits in seven innings.

WALK-OFFS

1. Overton will be the American League-high 11th pitcher to start a game for Oakland this season.

2. Los Angeles activated RHP Nick Tropeano (shoulder) from the 15-day disabled list and optioned him to Triple-A Salt Lake.

3. Oakland C Stephen Vogt is 2-for-2 with a homer and a walk against Chacin.

GAME: Philadelphia Phillies (31-44) at San Francisco Giants (48-27)
DATE/TIME: Saturday, June 25 - 10:05 PM EST
WHERE: AT&T Park, San Francisco, California
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

Madison Bumgarner went exactly two months between losses and looks to bounce back from a rare setback when the San Francisco Giants host the Philadelphia Phillies in the middle contest of their three-game series. Bumgarner performed well in defeat, allowing one run and five hits over eight innings in Monday's 1-0 loss to Pittsburgh as his personal seven-game winning streak came to an end.

Bumgarner will be striving to pitch the Giants to their 13th win in 14 games after they edged the Phillies 5-4 in the series opener. The surge has allowed San Francisco to open a seven-game lead over the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League West as well as tie the Chicago Cubs (48) for most victories in the majors. Philadelphia recorded six extra-base hits (four doubles, two triples) in the opener but has lost 14 of its last 16 games. The light-hitting Freddy Galvis is 6-for-14 with a homer and six RBIs over his last four games after suffering through a 6-for-70 funk.

TV: 10:05 p.m. ET, MLB Network, CSN Philadelphia, CSN Bay Area (San Francisco)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Phillies RH Jeremy Hellickson (4-6, 4.41 ERA) vs. Giants LH Madison Bumgarner (8-3, 1.85)

Hellickson has lost three consecutive starts and is 0-4 over his last six outings. He has served up 16 homers in 87 2/3 innings, including five over his last three turns. Hellickson is 1-2 with a 3.38 ERA in three career starts against the Giants and has struggled to retire Matt Duffy (3-for-5) and Brandon Crawford (4-for-7).

Bumgarner has allowed fewer than two runs in seven of his last eight starts and has posted a 1.07 ERA during the stretch. The 26-year-old has fared well at home with a 4-1 record in eight starts to go with a 1.79 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and .193 batting average against. Bumgarner is 4-2 with a 3.14 ERA in seven career starts against Philadelphia and has had success retiring Ryan Howard (1-for-9).

WALK-OFFS

1. The Giants have won 31 of their last 40 games, matching the 1954 New York Giants for the best 40-game stretch in franchise history.

2. Philadelphia placed Andrew Bailey (hamstring) on the 15-day disabled list and recalled fellow RHP Edubray Ramos from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

3. San Francisco LF Angel Pagan, who went 3-for-4 with two RBIs on Friday, has driven in seven runs over his last three games.

Preview: Cardinals at Mariners

GAME: St. Louis Cardinals (38-34) at Seattle Mariners (37-37)
DATE/TIME: Saturday, June 25 - 10:10 PM EST
WHERE: Safeco Field, Seattle, Washington
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

One swing from Adam Lind ended a six-game losing streak and the Seattle Mariners look to ride the momentum when they host the St. Louis Cardinals in Saturday's middle contest of a three-game series. Lind delivered a walk-off three-run homer in the bottom of the ninth inning for a 4-3 win Friday as Seattle ended its season-worst skid.

The Mariners were closing in on a seventh straight loss before Lind went down and slugged a low pitch from Cardinals closer Trevor Rosenthal well over the fence in right field for his fourth career walk-off blast. "We kept battling and got a couple guys on and obviously a huge hit from Lind," Seattle manager Scott Servais told reporters. "A nice win. We certainly needed it to break up this losing streak and this was a good way to do it." The Cardinals had only four hits in the opener — two by Brandon Moss — to drop to 3-1 on an eight-game road trip. St. Louis catcher Yadier Molina was hitless in two at-bats and is 0-for-15 over the last four games and 2-for-22 over his last six contests.

TV: 10:10 p.m. ET, MLB Network, FSN Midwest (St. Louis), ROOT (Seattle)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Cardinals RH Mike Leake (5-4, 4.00 ERA) vs. Mariners RH Nathan Karns (5-2, 4.38)

Leake has won five of his past six decisions and has given up two or fewer runs in seven of his last eight turns. He hasn't walked a batter in any of his last three starts and has issued just two in 39 1/3 innings over his last six outings. Leake lost his lone career outing against Seattle when he allowed four runs and five hits in five innings July 5, 2013, as a member of the Cincinnati Reds.

Karns is winless in his last four starts and hasn't pitched longer than five innings in any of them. He has a 7.36 ERA during the stretch and has given up 21 hits and 15 walks in 18 1/3 innings. Karns, who has never previously faced the Cardinals, has served up just two homers over his last nine starts.

WALK-OFFS

1. Mariners 3B Kyle Seager reached base four times on two hits and two walks in the opener after being 7-for-48 over his previous 12 games.

2. St. Louis 1B Matt Adams (back) was a late scratch for the opener and his availability is uncertain for Saturday.

3. Seattle LF Seth Smith, who is 7-for-18 over his past six games, is 5-for-8 with a homer and two doubles against Leake.
