Since '09, they're 17-9 as road underdogs.

Duke won last three games, allowing 10 ppg since loss to Northwestern; all six Duke games stayed under total. Blue Devils are 1-10 in last 11 vs Virginia Tech (2-3 vs spread last five)- they won last visit here 13-10 in '13. Hokies lost three of last four games; they get QB Brewer back here- their last three games stayed under. Tech is 7-16-1 in last 24 games as a home favorite (1-1 in '15). Duke is 5-1 as a road underdog last 2+ years.

Oregon State lost last three games, allowing 47 ppg; Colorado lost its last three games, allowing 42.3 ppg. Buffs are 6-20 as a road dog since 2010; they're 3-7 under MacIntyre. Favorite covered all five of OSU's lined games; they're 2-6 in last eight games as home favorite. Beavers won last two series games 36-31/44-17, but they allowed 550.7 ypg in last three games overall. Three of last four OSU games went over total. Colorado allowed 294.3 rushing ypg over last three weeks.

Louisiana Tech allowed 39+ points in its three losses, all on road; four of its six lined games went over total. Tech hasn't played Middle Tennessee since 2000- they're 5-5 as home favorite under Holtz. Blue Raiders lost three of last four games, losing close games at Illinois/Vandy; in last 27 games as road dog, they're 11-15-1 vs spread. Home favorites are 7-4 vs spread in C-USA games.

Arkansas lost four of last five games, losing to Toledo/Texas Tech on its home field; they're 5-4 as home favorites under Bielema. Hogs lost last two games vs Auburn 45-21/35-7. Tigers split pair of road games, giving up 497 TY in 30-27 win at Kentucky LW; they're 3-3 as road underdogs under Malzahn. Last five Arkansas games stayed under total. Auburn scored 27+ points in all four wins; 21/9 in two losses. SEC home faves are 7-8 against the spread.

Oklahoma's QB/OC came to Norman from Texas Tech, so little extra in this game; Sooners scored 45.7 ppg in three home wins- they're 13-14 in last 27 games as home favorite. Tech allowed 227+ rushing yards in six of their seven games; they were shaky in 30-20 win at awful Kansas LW. Over is 3-1 in last four games for both teams. Oklahoma won last three series games 41-20/38-30/42-30, after Tech won here 41-38 in '11 (+21).

6-0 Florida State allowed 712 PY last two games, but Georgia Tech can't pass, so that shouldn't matter here; FSU won nine of 11 games vs Tech, winning 21-15/37-35 last two years- this is Seminoles' first visit to Tech since '08. Yellow Jackets allowed 35.2 ppg in losing last five games; they completed less than half their passes in four of the five. Four of last five FSU games stayed under the total. Tech allowed 632 rushing yards in last three games.

LSU used fake FG to edge Florida LW, plays at Alabama next, so this is huge trap game, considering best QB in game plays for WKU. Tigers are 7-2 in last nine games as home favorite; this is by far best QB they faced since Prescott in season opener. Hilltoppers scored 54.5 ppg in winning last four games; they obviously take huge step up in competition- their only loss was 38-35 at Indiana, which ran for 284 yards and they don't have anyone like Fournette. Last five LSU games went over total.

Washington State is 12-5 as road underdog under Leach, 3-0 this season; they won four of five games since loss to I-AA team in opener. Wazzu lost six of last seven games with Arizona (last five losses by 17+ points) but won 24-17 (+11) in last visit here in '13. Wildcats ran for 659 yards in winning last two games 44-7/38-31; they're 9-11 as home favorite in RichRod era. Five of six Arizona games this year went over the total.

Preview: Ducks (1-4) at Wild (4-1)

Date: October 24, 2015 6:00 PM EDT

The turmoil surrounding the Anaheim Ducks' awful start has carried over into a road trip that reportedly will be the deciding factor in whether or not coach Bruce Boudreau keeps his job.

He doesn't have to go back too far for a reminder of how well his club is capable of playing.

Anaheim looks to beat the Minnesota Wild for the second time in a week as it makes the second stop on a five-game trip Saturday night.

The Ducks' six goals during their 1-4-1 start are by far the fewest in the league, with half of them coming from defensemen. They were blanked three times in their first four and had another listless performance in Thursday's 5-1 loss to Nashville.

'We're trying to work hard and do all the right things,' forward Corey Perry said. 'Eventually it's going to break.'

It appeared the Ducks put their scoring woes behind them Sunday when they beat Minnesota 4-1 at home, winning for the 10th time in the last 11 meetings. They couldn't build on that effort to begin the trip, though, and Boudreau could be on the hot seat.

Anaheim was the popular preseason pick to win the Stanley Cup after falling to Chicago in Game 7 of the Western Conference finals last season, but the slow start reportedly has caused general manager Bob Murray to lose his patience.

The Ducks' power play is 1 for 18, while Perry and Ryan Getzlaf have one assist apiece.

'When you are having trouble scoring and the other team gets that first goal, you've got to dig deeper,' Boudreau said. 'We sort of felt a little sorry for ourselves for the next little bit."

They won't get any sympathy from a Wild team looking to avenge its only regulation loss. Minnesota (4-1-1) has played one-goal games in its other five, including Thursday's 3-2 victory over Columbus that snapped a two-game skid.

The Wild hung on against a winless Blue Jackets team debuting new coach John Tortorella after being outshot 13-6 in the first 20 minutes. Zach Parise scored his sixth goal in the opening period before Nino Niederreiter and Thomas Vanek had goals in the second.

Minnesota has been outshot in the first period in each of its last three.

'I just feel like we talked so much about how hard they were going to come out and how hard they were going to play, I don't know if we psyched ourselves out or what but it was a pretty ugly start for us,' Parise said. 'But we were able to turn the page and be a better team in the second period.'

Devan Dubnyk made 27 saves to improve to 4-1-0 despite having a mediocre .896 save percentage. Dubnyk is 1-4-1 with a 2.33 goals-against average in his last six against the Ducks, and he'll get the start in the first of a back-to-back set.

Anton Khudobin has started each of the previous two for Anaheim ahead of Frederik Andersen, who has a 1.56 GAA in three starts and one relief appearance.

Boudreau gave Khudobin another chance after beating the Wild, but it seems likely he'll go back to Andersen as the Ducks look to win a seventh straight meeting in Minnesota.

Preview: Rangers (5-2) at Flyers (3-2)

Date: October 24, 2015 7:00 PM EDT

While two straight home wins have helped ease the pain of New York's recent skid, a pair of goals from the Rangers' top two offensive weapons may hold more healing power.

New York's budding offense will try and carry the momentum on the road and into this season's first meeting with the rival Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday night.

The Rangers (5-2-1) scored twice during a three-game skid, earning just one point in a 2-1 overtime loss to New Jersey on Sunday, before snapping it with a 4-0 win over San Jose on Monday followed by a 4-1 victory over Arizona on Thursday. The biggest takeaway may have been getting goals from two of their top scoring threats against the Coyotes.

Rick Nash and Chris Kreider finally found the back of the net - well, sort of - to end a seven-game opening drought. Kreider got his first goal on a redirect midway through the second period, while Nash earned his in more unusual fashion in the final minute.

Nash was awarded a goal when he was hooked on a breakaway with an empty net in front of him. The puck skidded into the corner, but Nash picked up his first of the season and 700th career point regardless.

How it happened aside, Nash and Kreider having an impact on the score sheet is promising news for the Rangers.

Nash finished with a career-high 42 goals last season and Kreider added 21, but the two combined for five assists through the first seven games. Add in defenseman Keith Yandle's first goal, and offensively things are looking up for the Rangers.

"All three of us are guys that they depend on for goals," Nash said. "It's something that we're trying to work on and trying to get better in practice. The chances are there, it's just a matter of getting the job done on the ice."

Henrik Lundqvist continued to hold up his end of the bargain with 34 saves, lowering his goals-against average to 1.99 and building his save percentage to .938.

Lundqvist has enjoyed the rivalry with the Flyers (3-2-1), going 6-2-0 with a 2.02 GAA and .930 save percentage in his last eight starts in the series. He is 28-13-3 against them for his career.

The Rangers have won four of the last five meetings but have lost four of five in Philadelphia, including a 4-2 defeat Feb. 28.

Wayne Simmonds, who scored in that game, helped the Flyers earn two points with a 5-4 overtime victory in Boston on Wednesday. Simmonds forced the extra period with a wrist shot midway through the third before Claude Giroux ended it with his second of the game.

The five goals gave Philadelphia 13 for the season and marked its first game with more than three.

Giroux liked how his team rallied from a 4-2 deficit in the third period, but he cautioned against waiting until that point to make a push.

"I think we have to find a way to play 60 minutes like that," Giroux said. "But that game feels really good right now."

Steve Mason relieved Michal Neuvirth and allowed two goals while stopping 16 shots, including a dazzling glove save to keep the deficit at 4-2. Mason is in line to start against the Rangers, whom he is 5-3-1 against with a 2.46 GAA and .927 save percentage for his career.

Preview: Devils (2-3) at Sabres (1-5)

Date: October 24, 2015 7:00 PM EDT

In search of depth at forward, the New Jersey Devils invited Lee Stempniak to training camp. Not only did he make the team, but he's a major reason why it's won three games in a row.

Stempniak looks to continue his impressive scoring surge Saturday night when the Devils try to match their longest winning streak from last season against the Buffalo Sabres.

Stempniak was on four teams over the past two seasons, scoring 15 goals with 13 assists in 71 games with the New York Rangers and Winnipeg in 2014-15. He entered free agency over the summer and didn't land a tangible offer until the Devils (3-3-1) offered him a tryout in camp.

The right wing did enough to earn a one-year deal, and he's certainly justified that investment so far. Stempniak is tied with Adam Henrique for second on the team with six points, two behind Mike Cammalleri.

Stempniak scored in overtime of Sunday's 2-1 win over the Rangers before assisting on Adam Larsson's OT tally in a 3-2 victory over Arizona two days later.

He had two points Thursday, scoring with 32 seconds left in regulation before netting the decisive shootout attempt in a 5-4 win over Ottawa.

"We're a team that's got to fight for every inch and there's not very high expectations for us, but in the room we believe we're capable of a lot more than what people expect from us," Stempniak said. "I think that our mentality is just to go out and play until the final buzzer and that came through."

Stempniak has a chance at his first four-game point streak since he was with Calgary from Jan. 24-Feb. 1, 2014. However, he's been held off the score sheet over his last five meetings with Buffalo.

The Devils had four straight wins from Feb. 17-23, a streak that started with a 2-1 shootout win over the Sabres (2-5-0). They won all three matchups last season, holding them to one goal in each.

Cory Schneider was in net for two of those meetings, stopping 44 of 46 shots. He's 3-2-2 with a 1.53 goals-against average in seven career matchups.

He's expected to get the nod Saturday, having compiled a 2.24 GAA while starting each game of the current winning streak.

The Sabres are looking to bounce back from their worst performance of the season, giving up five unanswered goals to fall 7-2 to unbeaten Montreal on Friday.

"You're playing a team that hasn't lost a game all year," defenseman Josh Gorges said. "You've got to play the right way the whole way through and too many times, collectively as a group, we just made mistakes."

Matt Moulson and Ryan O'Reilly had a goal each against the Canadiens, giving them a team-leading four points apiece. Moulson has a goal in each of the last two homer matchups with New Jersey.

No. 2 overall pick Jack Eichel has a minus-5 rating and no points in his last four games after scoring two goals in his first three NHL contests.

It's unclear if Buffalo will start Chad Johnson in net on back-to-back nights after he surrendered a career high in goals while making 19 saves Friday. He's split two meetings with New Jersey, giving up five goals on 55 shots.

Johnson has been relied upon heavily due to an ankle injury to Robin Lehner, who is out at least six weeks.

Linus Ullmark, who was called up from AHL Rochester to backup Johnson on Friday, could be in line for his NHL debut. A sixth-round pick in 2012, the 22-year-old Ullmark went 1-2-0 with a 2.72 GAA in three games with the Americans.

Preview: Coyotes (3-3) at Senators (2-2)

Date: October 24, 2015 7:00 PM EDT

Mike Smith has crumbled since his rock-solid start, and the Arizona goaltender will have to pick up the pieces against an opponent that broke down him and the Coyotes last season.

The Ottawa Senators hope to continue their success against Smith while snapping out of their own skid when the Coyotes visit Saturday night.

Arizona (3-3-1) opened the season with three wins behind quality defense and goaltending, but things have spiraled since. In four consecutive losses, one coming in overtime, the Coyotes have surrendered 16 goals.

Smith is responsible for 14, a dozen more than he allowed in Arizona's first three games. His slump includes a benching in favor of backup Anders Lindback and an ugly goal allowed during a 4-1 loss to the New York Rangers on Thursday.

The Rangers scored the first of three unanswered third-period goals when Smith misplayed a puck behind Arizona's net, saying he thought he heard a teammate call for it.

"That's deflating to our team when you give up a goal like that," Smith told the team's official website. "That's on me and we'll try and get better. ... It was a brutal play."

Brutal is a good word to describe Smith's two games against Ottawa last season. He allowed 10 goals during losses of 5-1 and 7-2 in January and was benched early in the third period of the second defeat.

The rough showings lifted Smith's goals-against average to 3.39 and lowered his save percentage to .890 against Ottawa, one of seven teams against which he holds a sub-.900 save percentage.

Goaltending isn't the only issue during the Coyotes' skid as slow starts have plagued them. Arizona held a 5-0 first-period advantage in its three wins but is even at 2-2 in its losses, spoiling opportunities to jump ahead.

"That seems to be the M.O. for the last few games," captain Shane Doan told the team's official website. "We need to make sure we're ready to go."

The Coyotes have lost seven of eight in Ottawa since 2000 and are looking for their first win on a five-game road trip that ends in Toronto and Boston. The Senators are still looking for their first win at home.

Ottawa (3-2-2) started the season almost as hot as Arizona, netting three road victories in its first four games - the last a 7-3 victory over Columbus on Oct. 14. Though the Senators have scored seven goals in their last two, they've surrendered the same amount over the first 65 minutes before losing twice in shootouts to fall to 0-1-2 on home ice.

Ottawa looked to have Thursday's game against the Devils in hand when Chris Neil scored his first goal of the season in his 900th career game to put his team up 4-2 with less than 14 minutes remaining. The Senators fumbled away an extra point, though, when backup goaltender Andrew Hammond surrendered a rebound goal with 5:50 left and another in the final minute.

'It's disappointing not getting the two points out of that,' Neil said. 'The late goal hurt us and it could have went either way at the end. The frustrating part is the two points.'

Starter Craig Anderson likely will be back in net against the Coyotes to try and improve on the 4-7-1 record and 2.55 GAA he holds against them in 12 career appearances.

Preview: Maple Leafs (1-3) at Canadiens (8-0)

Date: October 24, 2015 7:00 PM EDT

While the Toronto Maple Leafs are starting to display signs of progress under Mike Babcock, the Montreal Canadiens continue to set the bar during the early part of this season.

Still unbeaten during the best start in their storied history, the Canadiens aim to continue another impressive streak when they host the rebuilding Maple Leafs Saturday night.

Montreal moved to 8-0-0 with Friday's 7-2 rout at Buffalo, getting two goals from Brendan Gallagher and Dale Weise and a career-high five points from Andrei Markov. The win streak is the Canadiens' longest since 2006, and they're two away from joining the 1993-94 Maple Leafs and 2006-07 Sabres for the league's best season-opening run.

'It's great to have eight wins, but (Saturday) is another challenge," said Markov, who finished with a goal and four assists while reaching 500 career points.

The Canadiens are receiving contributions throughout the roster during the surge. The top line of Max Pacioretty, Gallagher and Tomas Plekanec has accounted for 14 goals, Markov and defense partner P.K. Subban are a combined plus-27 with eight assists each and Carey Price has followed his MVP 2014-15 campaign with more stellar play in goal.

Price rested in favor of rookie Mike Condon on Friday, three days after posting a second shutout in three starts with 38 saves against St. Louis. The reigning Hart and Vezina Trophy winner has yielded six goals in his six outings.

'It's tough to say anything about Carey because everybody knows how valuable he is and what he brings every game,' said Pacioretty, among the league leaders with six goals.

Price made 36 saves and Pacioretty scored twice in a 3-1 victory at Toronto in the Oct. 7 opener, Montreal's seventh consecutive win in the series. Price has been in net for six of the games.

Toronto (1-3-2), which last defeated the Canadiens on Jan. 18, 2014, has won just once in Babcock's debut season but has earned points in three of the last four games. The Maple Leafs are 1-1-1 on a four-game trip following Wednesday's 2-1 shootout loss to Buffalo.

"I guess the way I look at it, the positive thing for me is we got points in three of our last four games," Babcock told the Leafs' official website. "Your belief system to me is when you walk in the rink and know you're going to win. That is the step we have to get to. We've got to get working on our compete level, got to work on our structure and got to work on being heavier on the puck in the offensive zone. The next thing you know we'll be a much better hockey club and winning more often. We're making steps."

Jonathan Bernier's play the last two games has been a plus as well. He had 34 saves on Wednesday after stopping 31 shots in a 2-1 loss at Pittsburgh on Oct. 17.

Bernier is 1-6-3 in 10 career starts against Montreal, however, and was dealt a sixth straight loss opening night despite allowing two goals on 28 shots.

He'll be hoping for better support from an offense that's mustered one goal or less in four of its six games, though Leo Komarov has three in his last three.

Toronto remains without center Tyler Bozak (lower body) and defenseman Jake Gardiner (undisclosed), both of whom were placed on injured reserve Friday.

Preview: Panthers (3-3) at Stars (6-1)

Date: October 24, 2015 8:00 PM EDT

The Dallas Stars are cruising along, particularly in the offensive zone, and maybe the most encouraging aspect is their top two scorers weren't needed in their most recent win.

Continued production as they return for a four-game homestand beginning with Saturday night's visit from the Florida Panthers could give the Stars their first six-game winning streak since March 2012.

Much was made of the hot starts from Tyler Seguin and Jamie Benn as the duo managed 10 points each through six games before Dallas (6-1-0) completed a flawless four-game trip with Thursday's 4-1 win in Pittsburgh while neither picked up as much as an assist.

Defenseman Johnny Oduya scored for his first point with his new club, while Jason Spezza scored his fifth goal in five games.

"It's a team sport," Oduya told the team's official website. "(Benn and Seguin) are tremendous players, but they have a tough job getting on the board every night. It's good that we can have relief from some of the other guys. We have a talented group."

Their 3.57 goals per game rank among the league's leaders and they've also held their last two opponents to a goal apiece. Antti Niemi was in net for both to improve to 3-1-0 with a 2.00 goals-against average and .940 save percentage with his new team, and his only home game resulted in 37 saves in a 3-0 season-opening win over Pittsburgh on Oct. 8.

Special teams have also weighed heavily in Dallas' favor with a 7-for-23 power play (30.4 percent) and 18-of-20 penalty kill (90.0).

Most importantly, the Stars along with Nashville are pacing what's shaping up to again be a tough Central Division a season after a terrible start. Dallas finished seven points out of a playoff spot last season after dropping 17 of its first 26 games.

"For me, it's about making progress," coach Lindy Ruff said. "So far, we're happy with it."

Benn has four goals in his last four games against the Panthers, while Seguin has three and three assists in his previous three. Both scored twice and combined for seven points in a 4-2 win at Florida last Saturday - Dallas' third straight win in the series.

That sparked a 0-2-1 span for the Panthers (3-3-1) after a 3-1-0 start. They fell 3-2 in Chicago on Thursday with Jaromir Jagr scoring his fifth goal in seven games, giving him 11 in 27 contests with the club after managing 11 in 57 with New Jersey to start 2014-15.

The bigger issue was losing center Aleksander Barkov to an upper-body injury after he blocked a second-period shot. Coach Gerard Gallant said the puck hit Barkov, second on the team behind Jagr with six points, in the right arm or hand. There was no further update, but Jagr didn't sound optimistic.

"It's a big loss," Jagr told the team's official website. "He's our best player, and it's going to be tough to replace. Nobody knows for how long he's going to be out, so it's even tougher. But we've got to do it no matter what."

They also need to work on staying out of the penalty box. The Panthers were shorthanded eight times and are 13 of 19 (68.4) on the penalty kill in their last four.

"You can't spend that much time (killing power plays)," Gallant said. "When you're killing penalties, you're not getting scoring chances. Sixteen minutes of a hockey game in your own zone really wears on you."

Roberto Luongo has allowed three goals in each defeat on the skid, but he's 2-3-1 with a 2.17 GAA and .934 save percentage to start the season. The veteran has 3.16 and .895 marks over a 1-4-1 span against the Stars.

Dallas defenseman Jason Demers won't play after being suspended two games Friday for elbowing Penguins forward Nick Bonino.

Preview: Penguins (3-4) at Predators (4-1)

Date: October 24, 2015 8:00 PM EDT

Contending for the Central Division title has become an expectation for the Nashville Predators, who have come close to doing so multiple times in recent seasons but haven't quite gotten over the hump.

The Pittsburgh Penguins are out to prove they're not in a state of decline.

Nashville seeks a fourth consecutive victory Saturday night when it hosts a Pittsburgh team having trouble finding the back of the net.

The Predators (6-1-0) made a 16-point turnaround in Peter Laviolette's first season behind the bench in 2014-15, but still had to settle for their third second-place finish since 2010-11.

Now Nashville, which spent much of last season in first place, has gotten off to another hot start. The Predators relied on goaltending while totaling 10 goals in their first four games, but have put up 12 non-shootout goals in their three straight victories.

"In the last four games, I think we have had more attack to our game," Laviolette said after Thursday's 5-1 win over Anaheim. "We have to keep getting better and keep improving."

Eric Nystrom scored his second goal before Ryan Ellis, Mike Ribeiro, Mattias Ekholm and Colin Wilson followed with their first of the season. The Predators share the early Central lead with Dallas.

"We're working hard to establish ourselves where we want to be in the standings, and that's at the top," Nystrom said. "We want to continue this the whole season and every night's a new test. We've got Pittsburgh coming in here next game, and that's going to be a really strong challenge for us. We've got to continue to improve and we want to stay on the top. That's where we think we belong."

Pittsburgh (3-4-0) won four division titles in an eight-season stretch, finishing second four other times, before dipping to fourth in 2014-15.

The Penguins' slow start to this campaign stems from a lack of offense, as it's totaled 11 goals and managed three just once. Sidney Crosby went without a point in his first five and Phil Kessel has two goals and an assist.

Nick Bonino scored the lone goal in Thursday's 4-1 loss to Dallas. Pascal Dupuis played his first regular-season game in almost a year after battling through blood clots that threatened his career and a lower-body injury that delayed his season debut.

'I'm happy to be back, but I'm definitely not happy with the result,' Dupuis said. 'We started well, but we had a little letdown.'

Former teammate James Neal has five goals and three assists during a four-game point streak for the Predators, who had dropped five straight meetings before winning 4-0 on Feb. 1.

Pekka Rinne wasn't in net for that contest but should be in this one. He's off to a 5-1-0 start with a 1.82 goals-against average after making 27 saves Thursday, but he's 0-3-1 with a 3.70 GAA in his last four against the Penguins.

Marc-Andre Fleury has started each game for Pittsburgh and should be in goal again with the club having three nights off before playing at Washington on Wednesday.

Fleury has a 2.17 GAA despite Thursday's defeat and has a 1.95 GAA in 10 career games against the Predators.

Preview: Islanders (4-2) at Blues (5-2)

Date: October 24, 2015 8:00 PM EDT

The St. Louis Blues have won five straight over the New York Islanders, though the two players who have been most productive for them in that streak won't be on the ice Saturday night.

That's because the injury-plagued Blues traded away T.J. Oshie, and Kevin Shattenkirk remains out with a lower-body injury for this opener of a five-game homestand.

St. Louis (5-2-0) has outscored New York 25-12 in this win streak, with Oshie and Shattenkirk combining for 20 points. Oshie is now with Washington while Shattenkirk will miss his fifth straight game.

The Islanders have dropped their last four visits to St. Louis since a 6-3 victory Dec. 6, 2005.

The Blues are also without Paul Stastny and Patrik Berglund due to injuries and will be further short-handed since winger Jaden Schwartz was injured in Friday's practice when he collided with a goalpost. Schwartz is one of six skaters tied for the team lead with four assists.

"Obviously he couldn't finish practice, so that's the first alarm bell that goes off," coach Ken Hitchcock told the Blues' official website. "We sent him to the hospital to get a further evaluation and we'll give you an exact update on time frame (Saturday)."

Ty Rattie, who played 13 games over the last two seasons, has been called up from the minors to take Schwartz's place.

"Knowing him, I think he's really going to take advantage of this," Hitchcock said. "He's on that cusp of being an NHL player, and I don't think he's going to miss the opportunity to come up and play right now."

St. Louis wrapped up a 4-2-0 trip with Tuesday's 3-0 loss to Montreal. Vladimir Tarasenko's six-game run in which he piled up a team-high nine points ended.

The Blues had 38 shots against the Canadiens and are among the NHL's leaders with 33.0 per game.

New York (4-2-1) is also in that group with an average of 32.3 shots, though it was held to a season-low 26 in Friday's 5-3 home defeat to Boston that ended a four-game win streak.

'We didn't do a good job of complementing each other,' coach Jack Capuano said. 'You can't turn the puck over in this league and expect to win. We have to play a lot better than that.'

John Tavares had a first-period assist to extend his point streak to five games after he amassed eight in the Islanders' win streak. Anders Lee saw his four-game run end.

Capuano said there's a chance that winger Steve Bernier could make his club debut Saturday. Bernier has been out with a lower-body injury.

New York is well aware of its recent futility against St. Louis.

"We wanna win tomorrow," Tavares said. "Tough place to play against a good team that's rested. We're going to have to be a lot better than that (Friday), play a smarter game."

Former Blues goalie Jaroslav Halak made 21 saves Friday, though it's unlikely he will start this contest after he missed the first four games with an injury. Backup Thomas Greiss is 2-0-1 with a 2.64 goals-against average in three starts this year, and has posted a 2.01 GAA in winning both starts in St. Louis.

Preview: Lightning (5-2) at Blackhawks (4-3)

Date: October 24, 2015 8:30 PM EDT

Having endured plenty of transition and adversity since defeating the Tampa Bay Lightning for the Stanley Cup, the Chicago Blackhawks seem to be getting closer to regaining their championship form.

The Blackhawks vie for a third straight win Saturday night at the United Center in their first meeting with Tampa Bay since Game 6 of last season's Cup Finals.

Chicago's current roster hardly resembles the one that ousted the up-and-coming Lightning in June for its third title in six years, with salary-cap constraints forcing offseason trades of key forwards Brandon Saad, Patrick Sharp and Kris Versteeg and contributors such as Johnny Oduya, Brad Richards and Antoine Vermette all departing via free agency.

Patrick Kane's ongoing legal problems have presented another challenge, as has Duncan Keith's recent knee surgery that will sideline the top defenseman for 4 to 6 weeks.

Kane's potential distraction hasn't affected his play. The star forward has amassed five goals and five assists through seven games after scoring once and assisting on two goals in Wednesday's 3-2 home win over Florida.

Brent Seabrook also had a goal and two assists as Chicago (4-3-0) successfully handled its first game without Keith, the leader of a defense corps that limited Steven Stamkos to one assist in last season's finals.

'Anytime he's not out there, it's definitely, you miss him,' Seabrook said. 'But, like I said, I think the guys stepped up. They did a good job. The defense did a good job of playing together.'

Artem Anisimov, acquired from Columbus in the Saad deal, scored in a second straight game and is second to Kane with three goals, while rookies Artemi Panarin (8 points) and Viktor Svedberg also have helped soften the blow of the defections.

Tampa Bay (5-2-1) has had periods of inconsistency as well despite retaining the nucleus from last season's team. The Lightning won their first three games, then lost three of four before posting a 4-3 victory Friday at Winnipeg on Ondrej Palat's goal 36 seconds into overtime.

"I think that game turned out pretty much the exact way it should have," Lightning coach Jon Cooper told the NHL's official website. "It should have gone to overtime, and somebody is going to get fortunate."

Victor Hedman registered his third assist on the game-winner and has five in two games. Stamkos has five goals in his last seven but fellow center Tyler Johnson has yet to score after netting 29 goals last season.

Ben Bishop had a season-high 33 saves but allowed at least three goals for the third time in four outings. He's started every game this season and may get the call again Saturday with regular backup Andrei Vasilevskiy still sidelined by a blood clot.

Current backup Kevin Poulin appeared in one game for the New York Islanders last season.

Bishop posted a 2.31 goals-against average in the Cup Finals and stopped 28 shots in a 4-0 home win over the Blackhawks on Feb. 27, avenging Chicago's 3-2 shootout victory at the United Center on Nov. 11.

Tampa Bay faces Corey Crawford for the first time since his 25-save performance in Chicago's 2-0 Game 6 victory, capping an outstanding series in which he compiled a 1.69 GAA and yielded two goals over the final three wins.

Crawford has been sharp as well during the present winning streak, surrendering three goals on 41 shots against Florida and Columbus.

Preview: Blue Jackets (0-8) at Avalanche (2-3)

Date: October 24, 2015 9:00 PM EDT

Although they remain winless, the Columbus Blue Jackets at least have a heightened sense of optimism now that John Tortorella is in charge.

Mired in the league's second-longest regulation skid to open a season, the visiting Blue Jackets believe there's plenty to build on from Tortorella's debut that could carry over into Saturday night's meeting with the Colorado Avalanche.

Despite a 3-2 loss at Minnesota on Thursday, Tortorella liked the overall spirit and effort from his new team.

"We're (0-8-0); moral victories aren't going to help us right now," Tortorella said. "But for a number of minutes I thought we played hard."

Columbus, which has never dropped nine straight in regulation at any point, owns the worst opening regulation losing streak since the New York Rangers went 0-11-0 in 1943-44.

Coaching his fourth team after replacing the fired Todd Richards on Wednesday, Tortorella has already made his presence felt.

"He's demanding," said forward Nick Foligno, who does not have a point in three straight contests. "You can hear him on the bench. But he's teaching, too. You can hear it. It's going to be a work in progress for all of us, but I liked what I saw."

Columbus overcame an early 1-0 hole against the Wild by closing the first period with goals from Alexander Wennberg and Brandon Dubinsky, who also played for Tortorella with the Rangers. However, Minnesota scored twice in the second then held on despite recording just four shots in the final period.

After sitting the previous two games, Sergei Bobrovsky made 20 saves to help the Blue Jackets yield their fewest goals of the season.

"I'm not down about it," Tortorella told the team's official website. "We're 0-8 and we need to find a way to get a win, but I thought we took a step in the right direction to what we have to do to try to get ourselves out of this."

Columbus won 4-3 at Colorado on Jan 4 while splitting last season's two meetings. Dubinsky scored twice in that contest.

The Avalanche (2-3-1) have scored once while dropping back-to-back one-goal decisions, and are 1 for 12 on the power play in the last three games after going 5 for 10 in the first three. Colorado has remained competitive thanks to a unit that's killed all 16 penalties over the last four contests.

"I think if we play like this (defensively), we're going to win our share of games," coach Patrick Roy told the Avalanche's official website following Wednesday's 1-0 overtime loss to Carolina. "The offense will be taken care of. I'm confident that our guys will find the back of the net."

Roy also might have regained some confidence in Semyon Varlamov, who made 18 saves Wednesday. The veteran goaltender sat the previous two games after allowing 13 goals while losing two of the first three contests.

Though Varlamov struggled in the January loss to the Blue Jackets, he stopped 44 shots in a 4-0 victory at Columbus on March 7.

Jarome Iginla had a goal in each meeting with the Blue Jackets last season.

Colorado defenseman Tyson Barrie has eight assists in his last six games against Columbus, but will sit while serving the final of his three-game suspension for a hit on Anaheim's Simon Despres last week.

Preview: Red Wings (3-3) at Canucks (2-2)

Date: October 24, 2015 10:00 PM EDT

The Vancouver Canucks are on the verge of their worst home start in franchise history, and the Detroit Red Wings are looking to capitalize on that in order to snap a skid of their own.

The Canucks try to avoid a fifth straight loss at Rogers Arena by dealing the Red Wings another defeat in the finale of this road trip Saturday night.

Vancouver (3-2-2) has lost its first four games at home (0-2-2) for the first time since 1984-85. The Canucks went five games without a win as host to open the 1995-96 season, but three of those were ties.

They wasted a chance to end the current skid Thursday, blowing a third-period lead for the third time at home and falling 3-2 to Washington.

"We have to be grittier and stop thinking home ice is going to come easy for us," center Henrik Sedin told the team's official website. "You can't start making plays at the blue lines, trying to make the cute plays. You have to be direct and get pucks deep and go from there. We haven't done enough of that."

The Red Wings (3-3-1) enter the conclusion of this four-game road trip dealing with their own issues late in games. They've been outscored 7-2 after the second period during a four-game losing streak (0-3-1).

Detroit squandered a third-period lead with 1:12 to play Friday before giving up a goal in overtime of a 3-2 loss at Calgary.

"We didn't get on our toes enough," first-year coach Jeff Blashill said. "When we did have time in their end we didn't do a good enough job of getting pucks to the net, not that we weren't attempting to do so. We got to do a better job of getting through."

Gustav Nyquist is doing his part with five points over the last six games. The right wing got his first power-play goal Friday and his third tally of the season. Despite the Wings' recent struggles, the right wing has one point in three of the last four contests.

Nyquist also has one point in three straight meetings with the Canucks.

Petr Mrazek is expected to get the start in goal in place of Jimmy Howard, who made 37 saves Friday and is 2-1-1 with a 2.24 goals-against average.

Mrazek has given up three goals in each of his three games, all on the road, losing two. This is his first meeting with the Canucks.

He'll have to contend with Daniel and Henrik Sedin. Daniel Sedin has 47 points in 49 career regular-season meetings with Detroit, while Henrik Sedin has 46 in 51.

The twins had three points each in a 4-1 home victory over the Red Wings on Jan. 3.

Henrik Sedin, though, is coming off a two-point effort against the Capitals after failing to get any through the first three home games.

Radim Vrbata also had one goal and one assist Thursday for his first points of the season. The right wing snapped an eight-game goal drought against the Red Wings by scoring on a power play Jan. 3.

Ryan Miller had 29 saves in that matchup to end his seven-game losing streak against Detroit, during which he went 0-5-2 with a 3.27 GAA.

Preview: Hurricanes (2-5) at Sharks (3-3)

Date: October 24, 2015 10:30 PM EDT

The San Jose Sharks have seen their scoring and power-play production dip since Logan Couture went down three games into the season.

The Carolina Hurricanes are also having trouble scoring and they own the league's second-worst power play.

The Sharks seek to end a three-game slide Saturday night when they host a Carolina team that has totaled two goals in its last three games.

Couture broke his leg in practice Oct. 15 after San Jose scored 12 goals with him during a 3-0-0 start. The Sharks (4-3-0) have managed six goals in four games since, with one in their last two.

San Jose was 3 for 14 on the power play with Couture before going 0 for 10 in the next four games.

"He's a big piece of it, obviously been together the five of us when we're out there, we don't even really think, to be honest with you," center Joe Pavelski said. "We're moving around, you fill your lane and you go from there."

Carolina (2-5-0) is at 6.9 percent on the power play to rank ahead of only Anaheim. The Hurricanes had four chances in Friday's 3-0 loss at Los Angeles.

"The power play struggled, it's struggled all year," coach Bill Peters said.

Eric Staal, Kris Versteeg and defenseman Justin Faulk have four points apiece but no one else on the club has more than two.

"We've gotta get some of our higher-end skill guys involved offensively," Peters said. "But in order to do that, you've got to get into the dirty areas to score."

One of the players Peters may be referring to is Jeff Skinner, who had a career-high 33 goals in 2013-14, slumped to 18 last season and has one through seven games this year.

Carolina forward Andrej Nestrasil limped to the dressing room in the second period and didn't return after taking a slap shot from Christian Ehrhoff on the inside of his leg.

San Jose has been sloppy lately on the penalty kill, yielding four goals in eight chances in the last three games in a run that coincides with the absence of defenseman Paul Martin.

Martin is poised to return after being out with a lower-body injury. He totaled a team-high 14:11 of short-handed ice time in the first four games.

Rookie forward Joonas Donskoi will also likely return after missing four games with a lower-body injury.

The Sharks went 0 for 5 on the power play in Thursday's 4-1 home defeat to the Kings. Joel Ward's second-period goal was all they mustered.

'We definitely had our chances on the power play. It just didn't find its way in,' Pavelski said. 'We had our flurries in their end and we sustained pressure.'

Martin Jones has yielded eight goals total in losing his last two starts after he won his first four with a 0.49 goals-against average with two shutouts. He has never faced Carolina.

The Hurricanes gave Cam Ward both starts the last time they had a back-to-back, and he made 25 saves Friday. Ward is 4-1-0 with a 3.60 GAA in five starts versus the Sharks.

The other option is Eddie Lack, who made 38 saves to win his lone career start against the Sharks in a 3-2 victory for Vancouver on March 7.

These teams split two 2014-15 matchups after the Hurricanes had captured the previous four. Carolina has won four straight in San Jose.

Soccer: EPL Best Bets - Week 10
By Chris David

Week 9 Recap

With the first quarter of the season behind us, Premier League bettors are starting to see the contenders separate themselves from the contenders and last week’s results saw eight clubs earn victories, including all of the Top 4 teams.

Manchester United’s 3-0 win at Everton was a very impressive effort and so was Arsenal’s late-surge in its 3-0 victory at Watford. Chelsea dominated Aston Villas 2-0 with its defense while Manchester City blasted Bournemouth 5-1 behind Raheem Sterling’s hat-trick.

Including those outcomes, favorites went 6-2 in Week 9 with West Ham United (+260) and Stoke City (+270) representing the two underdogs to pull off upsets against Crystal Palace and Swansea City respectively.

On Sunday New Castle United ripped Norwich City 6-2, which was the highest combined goals posted in the league this season. The ‘over’ easily cashed and produced a 6-4 mark last weekend.

Through nine weeks, favorites have gone 40-24 with 26 draws while the ‘over’ is 47-41-2.

Champions & Europa League Recaps

The biggest news from this competition took place on Tuesday as Arsenal (+255) knocked off German power Bayern Munich as a live home underdog. Manchester City (-180) also won at home, a 2-1 decision against Spanish club Sevilla. Manchester United and Chelsea both went on the road and captured draws.

In Europa action, Tottenham lost a 2-1 decision on the road and Liverpool earned a draw, it’s third in the completion and second under new head coach Juergen Klopp.

Top 4

All eyes will be on Old Trafford this weekend as the Manchester Derby takes place from Old Trafford between United and City.

Chelsea at West Ham United (Saturday, NBCSN, 10:00 a.m. ET)

The Blues (-110) will look to win their second straight league game for the first time this season as they meet West Ham United (+290) from Upton Park.

Surprisingly the Hammers have been better on the road (4-1) than at home (1-1-2) this season. Road victories against Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City are very impressive and can’t be ignored. Plus, the club has better of late at home, going 1-1-0 and holding opponents to two goals in their last two matches.

Chelsea has gone 1-2-1 outside of Stamford Bridge and has allowed 10 goals. The defense has been better recently, posting a pair of clean sheets in their last two competitions but the offense is certainly lacking. The return of striker Diego Costa helped in last week’s win and that should continue as his condition improves.

The total of 2 ½ is shaded to the ‘over’ (-140) which seems fair with both Chelsea and West Ham posting identical 7-2 marks to the ‘over’ this season.

Make a note that Chelsea has gone 4-1-0 in the last five encounters against West Ham while outscoring them 8-0 during this span. Going back further, the Blues are 14-3-1 in the last 18 against United and that includes a 7-1-1 record at Upton Park.

Arsenal vs. Everton (Saturday, NBC, 12:30 p.m. ET)

Arsene Wenger’s club is in great form lately and Tuesday’s 2-0 victory over Bayern Munich in the Champions League should only boost the confidence of Arsenal. The Gunners have now won three straight and five of its last six behind an offense that has posted 17 goals over this six-game run.

Some bettors might expect Arsenal (-260) to have a letdown in this spot and the draw (+410) does present value against an Everton (+675) squad that hasn’t dropped points on the road this season. The Gunners won’t have Aaron Ramsey available and Alexis Sanchez could come off the bench instead of starting.

Despite not losing this season on the road, the Toffees (2-2-0) have been a tough team to gauge. In their victories, they posted three goals but have been held scoreless in the draws.

Since losing its home opener to West Ham United (2-0) in early August, Arsenal has responded with a 2-1-0 record and they haven’t allowed a goal during this span. Despite watching the ‘under’ go 3-1 in EPL games at the Emirates this season and allowing seven goals in nine games, most books have settled at total of 3 goals for Saturday’s match.

In the last seven meetings between the pair, the home team has never lost but there have been four draws. Last season, Arsenal earned a 2-0 decision at Emirates Stadium after playing to a 2-2 draw at Goodison Park. The ‘over’ is on a 3-1 run in the last four games in this series.

Manchester City at Manchester United (Sunday, NBCSN, 10:00 a.m. ET)

This will be one of four early games on tap for Sunday and the winner of this matchup could be sitting in first place of the Premier League. Manchester City (7-0-2) currently sits in the top spot while Manchester United (6-1-2) is tied for second place. Both clubs played in Champions League matches this week and City could have a slight advantage since they played at home while United played in Moscow.

VegasInsider.com contributor Toby Maxtone-Smith offered up his thoughts on this week’s matchup. “The Manchester derby's very interesting this weekend. I'll admit I just cannot work out Man United,” said Smith. “I backed them to win at Arsenal and they lost 3-0, and then I backed Everton against them and they won 3-0. At the prices I'd rather be with City, but the Over 2 ½ goals (-120) would be my preferred bet. The big games in the English Premier League have become so much more open in the last five years.”

In the last six encounters, there has been at least three goals scored in five of those games.

Considering the two teams only have one draw between them this season, picking either City (+175) or United (+160) seems like the better play than the tie (+235). Last season, both teams held serve at home with wins and the most recent meeting in April from Old Trafford watched United double-up City 4-2.

City will be without striker Sergio Aguero due to a hamstring injury and that will hurt the club going up against a United’s defense, which has posted five clean sheets this season and only conceded one goal at Old Trafford.

Fearless Predictions

Our straight plays washed each another out (2-2) but it could’ve been profitable if Chelsea netted one more goal. Fortunately, the ‘chalk’ parlay of the Top 4 teams finally cashed and that returned $450 which cut our annual deficit by nearly a third ($1,130). This week, I’m spreading the action around evenly for both days and hoping the parlays are alive for Sunday.

Straight – Over 2 ½ (-120) Crystal Palace-Leicester City – 2 Units

Straight – Stoke City (+110) over Watford – 2 Units

Straight – Under 3 (+100) Everton-Arsenal – 1 Unit

Straight – Under 2 ½ (-105) Manchester City-Manchester United – 2 Units

Straight – Liverpool (+100) over Southampton – 1 Unit

Parlay - 1 Unit
Under 2 (+110) Swansea-City-Aston Villa
Tottenham +120
Under 2 ½ (-105) Manchester City-Manchester United

United hosts City as Manchester derby headlines intriguing week
By SOCCER AUTHORITY

The Manchester Derby headlines a week in the Premier League fixture list filled with great matches. Soccer Authority breaks down what you need to know in four of the biggest games on the board.

Arsenal vs. Everton

In-form Arsenal will go top of the Barclays Premier League if they beat Everton at Emirates Stadium on Saturday. Arsenal have lost just one of their last 16 BPL meetings with Everton, but four of the last six have ended all square. However, Everton had a good record against Manchester United before that came to a sudden end last weekend with a 3-0 home loss to The Red Devils.

Arsene Wenger's men have scored 11 goals on their way to winning their last three top-flight fixtures and got their UEFA Champions League campaign back on track with a surprising 2-0 win against Bayern Munich on Tuesday. The Gunners beat Manchester United 3-0 in their last home league match, and beat Watford by the same score-line last Saturday.

Arsenal are in great form which is all the more surprising with some key players missing. Danny Welbeck (knee), Jack Wilshere (ankle) and Tomas Rosicky (knee) all remain sidelined, while Aaron Ramsey picked up a hamstring injury against Bayern and is facing a spell out of action. These games are often tight, and both will be absolutely desperate for the three points for different reasons. Arsenal will be keen to move top of the league, meanwhile 9th placed Everton will be keen to move nearer to the top four.

Key Stats:

- Arsenal have lost only one of their last 16 Barclays Premier League meetings with Everton (W9 D6).
- However, the Toffees have lost only one of their last six BPL matches versus Arsenal with four of these fixtures ending in a draw (W1 L1).
- Arsenal’s joint Barclays Premier League record win (7-0) came against Everton; this was at Highbury in May 2005.

Liverpool vs. Southampton

Jurgen Klopp remains unbeaten as Liverpool boss, but there’s no doubt in our minds that he wants that first win sooner rather than later. An away draw at Spurs last weekend was followed up with a subdued 1-1 draw with Russian side Rubin Kazan in midweek in the Europa League.

Southampton’s 3-1 win at Chelsea in Match-week 8 was their first BPL away win since February 7th, ending a 10-match away winless streak (L6 D4). The Saints will be buoyed by this and will fancy their chances in recording another away win this weekend.

Pundits assumed that Klopp’s appointment would bring the most out of the Liverpool players, and this appeared the case in terms of work rate at least. The Reds ran 116 km in their first match under Jurgen Klopp last weekend – further than they had run in any single Barclays Premier League fixture since the start of 2013-14. They will really need to put in a shift to take maximum points from this game.

Key Stats:

-Liverpool have enjoyed three Barclays Premier League wins in a row over Southampton, conceding only one goal in the process – that being scored by Nathaniel Clyne, who of course now plays for Liverpool.
- Just three of Southampton top scorer Graziano Pellè’s 17 Barclays Premier League goals have come away from home (18%).
- Pellè (5) has scored or assisted as many goals in his last four Barclays Premier League appearances as he did in his previous 11 in the competition.

Manchester United vs. Manchester City

This game is one of the most eagerly-anticipated games of any season and with both pushing for top-spot this game has even more significance. Manchester United and Manchester City must switch their focus from the Champions League to the Premier League when they meet at Old Trafford on Sunday in a derby that Louis van Gaal says will show whether United are “true title contenders”.

United face City after laboring to a 1-1 draw with CSKA Moscow in the cold Russian capital on Wednesday while City make the short trip across town basking in the glow of their late 2-1 home win over Sevilla. City clinched the win in the dying minutes of the game thanks to a strike from Kevin De Bruyne. The Belgian has been a terrific asset since his big-money switch from Wolfsburg in the summer.

Manchester City have won six of their last eight Manchester derbies in league competition (L2). Prior to this run, Man City had won just six of their previous 42 derby matches versus Man United. This shows how City have grown in recent years and their fans will certainly fancy their chances going into this one, especially with Van Gaal’s men having made the long trip home from Russia to contend with.

Key Stats:

- Wayne Rooney has scored 11 goals in Manchester derbies (all comps); more than any other player in this fixture.
- Rooney is 30 years old on the day before this match – no player has scored as many Barclays Premier League goals as he has by the age of 30 (187).
- Man United have won 17 of their 23 Barclays Premier League home matches under Louis van Gaal (74%), conceding only 16 goals (D3 L3).

West Ham vs. Chelsea

Slaven Bilic's West Ham have been a surprise success story on the road this season, winning four and drawing the other of their five Barclays Premier League matches away from home in 2015-16 - a run that includes victories at Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City.

However, results on their travels contrast sharply with those in front of their own fans, with just four points taken from as many outings. In the club's last season before their move to the Olympic Stadium, it is hardly the send-off the West Ham faithful would have wanted for the famous old Boleyn Ground and Bilic is keen to turn things around.

Chelsea have, of course, been another of this season’s surprise packages, but for all the wrong reasons. After cruising to the title by eight points last year, Chelsea have struggled in the start of their defense this time around with just three wins from the first nine matches. Jose Mourinho continues to be without goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois (knee) and Branislav Ivanovic (hamstring), while Loic Remy and Pedro (knocks) are doubtful.

Recent history is not on West Ham's side, however, as they have won just one of their last 18 BPL meetings with Chelsea. Bilic will be without defender Winston Reid (back), while on-loan winger Victor Moses is ineligible to face his parent club.

Key Stats:

-West Ham United have won only one of their last 18 Barclays Premier League London derbies against Chelsea (W1 D3 L14).
- Chelsea have not conceded a single goal in any of their last five Barclays Premier League matches against the Hammers; last conceding in a 1-3 defeat in Dec 2012.
- West Ham have scored with a league-high 22% of their shots this season in the Barclays Premier League while only Manchester City (24) have scored more goals than the Hammers (20).

Game of the Day: Texas A&M at Ole Miss

Texas A&M Aggies at Ole Miss Rebels (-5, 63.5)

Holes in the run defense and a trio of crushing turnovers ended Texas A&M’s dreams of an undefeated season last week, but SEC West supremacy remains a legitimate goal. The Aggies will try to bounce back quickly when they host another team bidding for an SEC West title in Ole Miss on Saturday.

Texas A&M quarterback Kyle Allen had three interceptions run back for touchdowns in a 41-23 home loss to Alabama last week and Kyler Murray added another pick. “No doubt that we need to play better at the (quarterback) position,” Aggies head coach Kevin Sumlin told reporters. “Those guys will be the first to tell you that.” Those quarterbacks will be going up against a Rebels secondary that has 10 interceptions on the season but was carved up for 384 passing yards in a 37-24 loss at Memphis last week. “Defensively, I have evaluated every one of them,” Ole Miss head coach Hugh Freeze told reporters. “It is very frustrating. Like I’ve told our coaching staff, it really doesn’t matter what you know, it matters what your kids know.”

TV: 7 p.m. ET, ESPN.

LINE HISTORY: Books opened Ole Miss as 4-point home faves, but that's moved to -5. The total is down to 63.5 from the opening 66.

INJURY REPORT:

Texas A&M - RB James White (Questionable, ankle), LB Otaro Alaka (Out for season, shoulder).

Ole Miss - DB Trae Elston (Probable, head), LB Tayler Polk (Questionable, undisclosed), P Will Gleeson (Questionable, undisclosed), DB Kailo Moore (Questionable, undisclosed), WR Damore'ea Stringfellow (Questionable, undisclosed), RB Jaylen Walton (Questionable, ankle), DT Robert Nkemdiche (Questionable, concussion), OL Robert Conyers (Out for season, knee), OL Laremy Tunsil (Eligible Saturday, suspension), LB C.J. Johnson (Mid November, knee), DB Tony Conner (Out indefinitely, knee), DT Issac Gross (Out for season, neck).

WEATHER: Forecasts are calling for a 55 percent chance of thunderstorms and temperatures in the low 70s.

WHAT CAPPERS SAY: "The Aggies beat themselves in a home loss to Alabama on Saturday, surrendering three interceptions returned for touchdowns. It won't get any easier this week on the road in Mississippi. The Rebels playoff hopes were crushed with a loss to the Memphis Tigers, and they try to pick up the pieces this week at home against Texas A&M." Jesse Schule.

ABOUT TEXAS A&M (5-1 SU, 4-2 ATS, 3-3 O/U): Allen threw for 13 touchdowns and two interceptions while guiding the Aggies to a 5-0 start but is suddenly unsure of his job security after the disaster against Alabama last week. The sophomore sat in favor of true freshman Murray for a pair of possessions, though Murray did little in the short stint to distinguish himself. Allen took over the position from former Aggies player Kenny Hill due to the latter’s tendency to turn the ball over last season, including a pair of picks by Hill in a 35-20 home loss to Ole Miss.

ABOUT OLE MISS (5-2 SU, 4-3 ATS, 3-4 O/U): The Rebels' defense has allowed at least 37 points in three of the last five games and could be without its biggest weapon in defensive lineman Robert Nkemdiche, who suffered a concussion while playing offense last week. Nkemdiche joins a long list of injured Ole Miss defenders that also includes key defensive back Trae Elston. “As far as Robert (Nkemdiche), you just don’t know,” Freeze told reporters of Nkemdiche’s potential availability for Saturday. “I know he loves to play the game. I am not in charge of protocols but I know he loves the game and wants to play. We have to make sure he is safe and ready to play.”

TRENDS:

* Aggies are 1-6 ATS in their last seven games following a S.U. loss.
* Rebels are 4-1 ATS in their last five home games.
* Under is 7-0 in Rebels last seven games in October.
* Over is 13-6 in Aggies last 19 games in October.

CONSENSUS: Fifty-nine percent are backing the Aggies.

'Ride the Tide'

Alamaba Crimson Tide (6-1 SU, 3-4 ATS) firing on all cylinders since their lone blemish against Rebels winning four straight outscoring opponents by an average 35 points/game host Tennessee Volunteers (3-3 SU, 1-2 ATS) Saturday at Bryant-Denny Stadium.

This series has been all Alabama of late. Since 2007, the Tide have come out on top winning eight straight matchups by an average 23.5 points/game covering six of the eight victories. Nick Saban's troops playing with a lot of confidence right now it's unlikely Tennessee will topple Tide in its own back yard.

Opening odds had Crimson Tide laying two touchdowns but that quickly jumped to 15.0 and in some shops 15.5 points. A lot of chalk but were 'Ridding The Tide' as they've covered 4 of 5 laying double digits in the series including two consecutive in Tuscaloosa and hit the field 11-3 ATS as double Digit favorites in October.

Texas A&M Aggies at Mississippi Rebels October 24, 8:00 EST

Aggies and Rebels both look to rebound when the two SEC West rivals collide on Saturday. Aggies suffering its first blemish fell 41-23 as 5-point home underdog to Alabama. Rebels, were dealt its second defeat of the campaign a shocking 37-24 nonconference loss at Memphis as a 10-point favorite. Texas A&M as 5.0 point dogs are tempting. But, they haven't been a peg to hang your hat on in this spot. Aggies are 0-3 ATS vs Ole Miss, 3-6 ATS in true road games, 3-9-1 ATS off a DD home loss, 1-7 ATS as underdogs of 6 or less. On the other side, Ole Miss is ridding a 10-1 SU, 7-3-1 ATS stretch at home.

Utah at Southern California October 24, 7:30 EST

Trojans losing back-to-back games to Washington, Notre Dame are staring at their first three game losing streak since 2012. The normally accurate USC QB Cody Kessler tossing 4 picks in those defeats spells bad news against a Utah squad that's among the best with 13 interceptions. Based on current trends the lean is Utah. Utes are 8-1 vs the spread last nine away, 6-2 ATS last 8 in an underdog roll. Trojans are 3-9 ATS facing a team with a winning road record, 1-4 ATS vs the conference, a vig-losing 5-5 ATS as home chalk.
