RECOMMENDED CHOICES
The Walker Group Picks

# 2 CARIFEO 3/1

# 3 SOMMELIER 8/5

# 9 DOCTOR TITILO 6/1

My selection here is CARIFEO. Likely to see this equine to be right there at the finishing post versus these horses. With a quite good 62 Equibase Speed Figure last time out, will clearly be a factor in this affair. With a solid jockey who has won at a formidable 17 percent clip over the last month. This has to be one of the top choices. SOMMELIER - He has been running soundly recently while recording strong Equibase Speed Figures. This gelding is coming right back to race. DOCTOR TITILO - Have to assume this one will make a good showing following the quick return to the races. Overall the speed figures of this racer look very strong in this outing.

#6 PANTERA (ML=5/2)
#9 SWEEPING CHANGE (ML=5/1)
#8 SIR J. J. (ML=12/1)

PANTERA - Have to give this gelding a chance. Ran a solid effort in the last race within the last month. Jock hops back on after getting to know the horse by riding last time out. That's always a good to see. Just look at his latest speed rating, 67. That one looks good in this group. Ranked the highest in earnings per race. Another indication that this horse has class. SWEEPING CHANGE - You always have to be on the patrol for money generating jock/conditioner tandems; we have it right here. 'Blinkers On' is a time-honored positive angle in handicapping the races. SIR J. J. - Was in a $50,000 Maiden Claiming race at Aqueduct last time out. That race had a class figure of 84 and he is moving down right here. A certain strong challenger.

Vulnerable Contenders: #5 WISHING CAN BE FUN (ML=4/1), #7 AUSABLE RIVER (ML=6/1), #4 LUCKY BOWTIE (ML=6/1),

WISHING CAN BE FUN - Could be tough for this racer to beat this group off of that last speed figure. Unlikely to improve enough to run a figure close enough to today's class figure, so put him on the questionable challengers list. AUSABLE RIVER - Finished second in his most recent race with a somewhat easily forgotten fig. When I look at today's class rating, it would take an improved performance to prove victorious after that in this bunch. LUCKY BOWTIE - Showed very little in the last event. Really no reason to expect a reversal of fortune today.

STRAIGHT WAGERS:
Bet on #6 PANTERA to win if you can get at least 5/2 odds

#10 ITALIAN MONARCH (ML=5/1)

ITALIAN MONARCH - The jock and handler combination here have a high win percentage when they team up. Forgive the off the board finish on the off track last out. With the benefit of a fast track, has a chance right here in this race.

Vulnerable Contenders: #4 ARVAK (ML=3/1), #6 SEA OF CHANGE (ML=4/1), #7 CALIFORNIA KID (ML=9/2),

ARVAK - Be particularly concerned about this 3 year old versus older. Will do better with more seasoning. Let me give you a tip. For the most part, don't play a maiden breaker out of a maiden claimer next time. SEA OF CHANGE - I can't play this frequent non-winner. Gets the assignment finished occasionally. CALIFORNIA KID - Can't play this questionable contender in today's sprint of 6 furlongs. Hasn't even finished in the money in a short distance affair lately. Would have to advance off that sixth place finish last time out to make an impact here.

STRAIGHT WAGERS:
Go with #10 ITALIAN MONARCH on top if we're getting at least 1/1 odds

RACE #8 -AQUEDUCT - 3:48 PM EASTERN POST
The Ladies Handicap
9.0 FURLONGS WINTERIZED INNER DIRT TRACK FILLIES AND MARES THREE YEARS OLD AND UPWARD STAKES $100,000.00 PURSE

#1 TEEN PAULINE
#4 CENTRING
#5 ROYAL LAHAINA
#3 FLASH FORWARD

Well folks ... just in case you did not know ... this is the oldest stakes race in the country exclusively for fillies and mares. The LADIES HANDICAP was first run at Jerome Park in 1868. Prior to 1913, the race was restricted to 3-year-old fillies. For all ages 1913-39. Since 1939 it has been open to older fillies and mares. Some of the best-known mares throughout history have won this race and many of them have races named after them in New York, including Beldame, Top Flight, Shuvee, Athenia, Flower Bowl, and Next Move. Here in the 142nd running of this stakes event, #1 TEEN PAULINE is the overall speed leader in this field racing at 9.0 furlongs on the dirt, and has hit the board in five straight, winning twice, including a "POWER RUN WIN" in her last start. Jockey Irad Ortiz, and Trainer Todd Pletcher send her to the post for the "Saturday Feature" ... they've "whacked the tote board" with 53% of their entries saddled as a team to date. #4 CENTRING takes a slight class drop (-1), and has hit the board in three of her last four "adventures," including a "POWER RUN WIN" facing slightly better company (+1) in her 2nd race back. Jockey Cornelio Velasquez has been in her irons on two previous occasions, winning 'em both, en route to a +433% return on investment in the process, and is back this afternoon for his 3rd ride, gunning for a "Hat Trick Win!"
