Toronto Blue Jays vs. New York Yankees (MLB) - Jul 4, 2009 1:05 PM EDT
Play: Toronto Blue Jays

We had a GREAT 18-12 June. Especially given the fact that 6 losses came in last two innings of ball games. We start off with a 1-0 mark for August after GIANTS and LINCECUM keep total under earlier this week. For a pitcher that has a career record of 16-5 against the pinstripes im not really sure why my line of -170 dosnt make sense. Plus add WANGS troubls I see the Jays behind Halladay winnning this 5 STaR contest.

Atlanta Braves vs. Washington Nationals (MLB) - Jul 4, 2009 1:05 PM EDT
Play: Total: 8.5/-109 Under
I see a well played fast paced game in this tilt. Look for the Nationals to secure victory and make this a pitching battle between two pitchers under the radar. Lannan and Hanson havebee lightsout!

Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Florida Marlins (MLB) - Jul 4, 2009 6:10 PM EDT
Play: Florida Marlins
Zake has been overachieving this year. Look for the Marlins to be patient and hit some curveballs over he fence. Miller has loked good but seems to struggle and lose focus at times. ThePirates are a goodteam to rebound. 3 STAR

Toronto Blue Jays-135

The Blue Jays lost game one of this four-game set with the Yankees 4 to 2 on Friday night and look to rebound with their ace on the bump Saturday afternoon. Toronto will send Roy Halladay to the hill with his 10-2 W/L record and ERA of 2.56 on the season. Halladay is 4-2 W/L on the highway this year with an ERA of 1.88. When he takes the bump versus the Yankees he is 16-5 W/L with an ERA of 2.75 and a WHIP of 1.096. Toronto is 21-7 W/L his last twenty-eight starts versus New York and 10-4 W/L when he takes the mound in Gotham. The Yankees are 9-22 W/L (-16.7) versus an AL starting pitcher whose WHIP is 1.100 or better over the last 3 seasons. New York is also 1-6 W/L their last 7 as home underdogs of 150 or less and 2-8 W/L when Wang is installed as an underdog. Todays starter for New York will be Chen-Ming Wang and he has a record of 1-6 W/L on the season struggling out of the gate with an ERA of 10.06. Unfortunately for the Yankees he is worse at home with a record of 0-2 W/L and an ERA of 13.09. Our Pitcher Efficiency Ratings Index project a closer matchup than one would think with Wang struggling but it stills predicts a Halladay win in the end. Our TPR (Team Performance Ratings) Index signals a win by the Blue Jays as well by 0.95 runs over the host Yankees. Combine these factors and the Blue Jays get the win in Gotham on Saturday afternoon.

For Saturday take the Giants minus 1 1/2 runs.

Russ Ortiz has actually somehow been pretty good this season but when compared to the reigning Cy Young award winner in Tim Lincecum this pitching matchup is an absolute joke and a must play on the home Giants laying that extra run.
San Francisco is not a great offense, save Friday's performance, and may not turn up a lot of crooked numbers today. Houston is in fact the superior lineup with more potential for long balls with guys like Berkman, Lee, Tejada and Pence but Lincecum isn't called "The Freak" for nothing. This kid is flat out unreal and a guy that has been on complete fire of late. In that last start he completely embarassed Albert Pujols and the Cardinals and back home here we may see a repeat of that.
San Francisco has been having more success this season than some thought, including myself and in such a lopsided matchup on the bump I will back them here laying that run and a half. I will keep my fingers crossed hoping that we can plate some runs because the Giants offense certainly has some issues at times but in the end Lincecum is too good to not take a shot on here in this spot against the old man Ortiz.

Garrett Olson has had to replace the injured Erik Bedard in the Mariners’ rotation, and he’s done an admirable job, winning three of his last four starts. Olson (3-2, 4.81 ERA) allowed two runs on four hits in five innings Sunday to beat the Dodgers in his last outing.

The left-hander now will try to get it done today at Fenway Park, a place that has not been kind to him. Olson is 0-3 with an 8.82 ERA in three appearances in Boston. And he is 0-5 with a 7.71 ERA overall in seven career starts against the Red Sox.

Brad Penny (6-3, 4.79) takes the mound for Boston. The veteran right-hander has grown stronger throughout the season, and has allowed three earned runs or fewer in seven of his past eight starts, and nine of the last 11.

Penny, who had a 3.18 ERA in June, gave up two runs on six hits in six innings Sunday against Atlanta in his last start.

I’m betting Penny will have another quality outing today against Seattle, and that Boston, which is 18-9 against southpaws, creates some fireworks of its own against Olson. Take the Red Sox on the run line.

3♦ BOSTON -1 1/2 runs

I've got a chance to play the Yankees at home catching plus-money on Independence Day? Hell yes I'm going with New York. I don't care if the Blue Jays have ace Roy Halladay (10-2, 2.56 ERA) on the mound.

New York is on some nice winning runs lately, including 8-1 overall, 6-0 against right-handers, 6-1 against winning teams and 17-8 in the Bronx. The Yankees got the 4-2 win over the Blue Jays on Friday and they'll get it done again today. Toronto is on slides of 1-5 overall, 1-4 against winning teams, 0-4 on Saturdays and 3-11 against A.L. East squads.
New York has won three of four against Toronto this season and the Yanks have Chien-Ming Wang (1-6, 10.06) on the hill who amazingly got his first win of the season on Sunday, giving up two runs on four hits in 5.2 innings of a 4-2 win over the Mets. He is 4-2 lifetime against the Blue Jays, and the Yankees are on runs of 39-16 when he pitches at home and 48-23 in his last 71 starts overall.
I'm going with the most American of teams playing on this Independence Day as they host a squad based out of Canada. This all sets up perfect. Play the Yankees!

St. Louis Cardinals at Cincinnati Reds
Saturday, July 4th, 1:10 PM ET

The teams played over the total last night. The over is 11-4 in the Cardinals last 15 road games vs. a team with a winning record. Thompson takes the mound for the Cardinals this afternoon and over his last 3 starts his ERA is 6.50 and all 3 games have played over the total. The over is 6-1 in Thompson's last 7 starts vs. a team with a winning record. The Reds have played over the total in their last 5 games vs. a team with a winning record. The over is 7-2 in their last 9 home games vs. a team with a winning road record. The last 5 meetings in Cincinnati have played over the total and the total is a profitable 9-3 in the last 12 meetings overall.

Fans hoping to see fireworks today in KC will have to wait until after the White Sox and Royals finish their game. Play the Under in Kansas City on Saturday afternoon.
Don't expect to see much action in the White Sox and Royals meeting today. Gavin Floyd has been stellar for the Pale Hose with eight quality starts in a row. Despite a high 5.80 road ERA this season, he has allowed just four earned runs in his last three starts on the highway.

In the past two series between the two teams at Kansas City; the Royals have scored just 10 earned runs in five games. They have scored just one run the past two games. That's a good sign for Floyd to continue his success of late of the road. The Royals haven't scored over four runs in a game since June 21 against St. Louis.

Luke Hochevar has been really good at home for the Royals. He owns a 3.47 ERA in KC, giving up just nine earned runs in 23.1 innings of work. He is coming off his best start of the season against the Twins when he pitched seven shutout innings and gave up only two hits. In his last start against the White Sox, Hochevar allowed just three earned runs in seven innings last August.

The Under has cashed a ticket in nine of the last 12 meetings between the two. This should be a low scoring affair in Kauffman Stadium today and we'll play the Under.

Free Pick: White Sox-Royals Under 8½ (-105)

HAPPY 4TH OF JULY.....To those of you who read this
and are celebrating the day!

Friday Recap - What is there to say?? The game looked
like it was following along nicely and appeared to be a sure winner
after 3 innings but for some reason LA didn't feel much like
participating and we ended up with a push. A push isn't bad....
it just takes a day off the calendar so no harm done.

Today's Play(s) - We do have what I consider to be a
very solid investment today and if it were not for the price
this would probably be a 2 unit job. However, my philosiphy
on that is why put too much at risk when we've had a solid
and profitable coulple weeks it would be disappointing to work
so hard and only be up a couple bucks. Today we look to
the Colorado Rockies. Far and away the hottest team in MLB
and they have their best starter going. Cook is one of the
few pitchers who's learned how to pitch in coors and pitch
effectively. On Arizona's side we have Y. Petit who has
an 8 + ERA and that's not considering the type of damage
that a warm coors night can provide to one's ERA. Top that
off with the fact that his team is 0-5 in his starts....I like
my chances with the Rockies -190

MLB - Colorado Rockies -190[LISTED] Y. Petit / A. Cook - 950 / 500

It's only fitting on July 4th for the big paleface in Washington to stick it to the Red Man. Put your wampum on the Nationals today against the Atlanta Braves.
Our MLB selection for the Fourth of July is on the Washington Nationals at home in the nation's capital over the Atlanta Braves.

In his last start, Tommy Hanson overcame the flu and led the Braves to a 2-1 victory over the Red Sox. That play was a nice winner for our interleague Game of the Year. But we are going to go against Hanson and the Braves here, and take Nationals lefty John Lannan.

The Braves are a poor 47-71 their last 118 on the road, including 14-22 as a road favorite the last two years. There's no doubt that Hanson is a terrific young pitcher, but Lannan is 2-0 at home in his eight home starts this year, with a solid 2.03 ERA and 1.18 WHIP.

The Nats are also 14-8 their last 22 at home vs. the Braves. Take the home dog on this July 4th holiday.

Toronto Blue Jays (-118)

I am betting on Super star and the ace of the Jays rotation Doc Halladay (10-2, 2.56 ERA)to extend on a perfect 4-0 road record this season in 6 starts, that has seen him garner a very stingy 1.88 ERA. The hard throwing veteran righty owns a bankroll expanding 16-5 record along with an extremely stable 2.79 ERA in 33 career appearances vs the Yankees. It must be noted that the over rated Bronx Bombers, are just 9-22 L/31 vs. an AL starting pitcher with a WHIP of 1.100 or less.
