It's not my habit to post plays, but on Belmont Day (one of maybe 10 days a year I get a DRF, just for fun) I hit 2 of 3, Cacicque (best) and Gorella. Short prices tho.

Quarter century ago I was writing SCORES of systems and handicap artilcles, for American Turf, Gambling Times, Handicapping newsletters, skin mags, etc.

When I quit that useless game I compressed my best angles into two Supersystems. When I try them they usually do ok, hold their own anyway. But it takes too much time to go thru some 8 tracks. And dull as haze.

I find sports betting more interesting and profitable. Horseracing is the ultimate insider's game. And there are too many equine Barry Bondes. (Pubbed a couple of articles on that topic.) And, the mutuel grab puts you behind the eightball before you begin.

For those still around (and this is night before, I don't know re scratches)
CD 8 - # 1, LADY OF VENICE (best of day, and maybe #3 & #6 to complete exacta)

HOL 6 - #2 DIXIE MEISTER

and a price play at a minor, Cnl 6 - #4 The Bohemian.

Win, lose, show or break down, maybe I'll try again at Breeders Cup(And remember, trainers and track vets, JUST SAY NEIGH!)

Thanx for the luck wish,Charles, in all sports betting luck is a nice companion, but in horse betting it's a sine qua non.

Trytrytry, while I've never owned a horse (and am slightly allergic to the beasts) I did work for a track once, and knew many people in the industry.

As a kid, the track to me was a fascinating place. Now, if I'm physically at a plant once or twice a year it's a lot. Usually then with a friend or Loved One. And I'd rather watch a good football game than the Ky Derby. Or the Breeders' Cup. And usually do.

Couple of tidbits: the Form tells only a small part of the story. All horseplayers surely know that. I have watched how the charts (from whence derive the pps) are made. The 'trackmen' at the various plants have different skills. They call the lengths behind as the race progresses to a shorthand-taking assistent, and then get it into the home office, now Equibase. ("They want them fast," one said to me, "I don't have time to review." Even tho the call is also made into a tape recorder.)

So if you are one of those who are laboriously trying to convert lengths behind of a horse that ran fourth or worse into a split or final time, god bless you. I hope you are at least having fun

The Beyers are another jest. (And not as good as European Timeform) Ol' Andy made documuented money only once in his career, early on when he caught a severe, season-long bias at one of the Maryland tracks.

And buzzers! What the racetrackers call "joints" or "machines". Think they are used, and then only occasionally, at the bush tracks? Neigh, man. But this is too long a post already, another time.

Thanx. Just got in from a hard day at the beach to check the results . . even a blind squirrel finds an acorn now and then.

I swore off "handicapping" years ago. Too much eyestrain. All mechanical and highly selective now, when I feel like it, one system for the better tracks, the other for the lesser . . . (But at the track or a simulcast place, where i'm there, I do handicap the tote board, to try to see where the hustlers are sticking the milkshake money . . . BTW, own an article on advanced tote watching that I did for a skin mag years ago, still a goodie. Maybe Marty would want to buy it? Cheap too!!)

Some very good horse cappers on this board. Esp impressed with the guy who does CD. Must be living on track, checkin' wind velocity & soil consistency . . . or enjoyin' a helluva run.

Anyone, even a hatpin sticker, can have a good day.

If I get out to a track (Dmr, or Sar, or Mth, depending on what coast I happen to be) thhis summer I may post again. Please don't go overboard . . . the game is corrupt. I know this, firsthand. Horses' mouth stuff.

It has to be, it began as a gambling game. I'm 100% certain that 2 milleinia ago guys in togas were cheating in the chariot races in Rome.

Tho I bet sports, I support fully the efforts of NCAA, NFL, NBA etc to brand gambling an evil. and to warn its participants against it. When it gets too close to any game, it is.
