Yeah, he'd be the Savior of any team that got him, and he was definately hoping to go to Toronto hahaha. That awesome you got to see both him and Nurse playing young, and yeah a soft defence is what costs goals - that why I like Sutter style systems, hard everywhere but especially on defence.
Thing about this goal is that, like your said, he saw that New York was tired and but didn't like his set up yet. So in order to rearrange things and also not let them change lines, he just takes it outside the zone to see how things get re set up again, then sees a path to the net while some of the defence skates pointing wrong way - and takes off to the net, I think hoping no one takes him down, because that's the only way to stop him. Luckily all the Rangers including the goalie were stunned by his speed into literally not knowing what to do, when they should have hit his body somehow. Anyways, takes hockey IQ plus his speed/skill to pull that off, just amazing.
Just from day seen him drafted to now he's matured immensely, not only physically heavier/stronger, but can literally see leadership and hockey IQ continue to develop - I think it's this more than anything that is carrying Edmonton success this year, combined with the addition of Hyman makes for this years running streak, they've literally just scored themselves out of any mistakes they make in games.
And no, haha I've never seen anyone with more highlight reel goals, just continues to show that as his leadership abilities grow as will Edmonton's ability to outscore themselves out of any situation - because just like this highlight reel goal, when McJesus is controlling/leading the offence he manufactures goals.
