Michigan State is less active in transition this year, as evident in its rate of field goals attempted in transition. But relying on the half-court offense to score is troublesome against Rutgers' top-level half-court defense, which features elite shot-blocking and multiple versatile defenders who can lock down multiple positions. Rutgers' length will make passing difficult to the same extent that Rutgers' on-ball defense will make scoring hard. On offense, expect Rutgers to use ball screens and especially ball-screen rejects to achieve dribble penetration. The team's ball-screen offense will generate sufficient three-point attempts, via an inside-out game, as well as good looks at the basket to help Rutgers achieve the upset.
