Howard Dean did his residency at Planned Parenthood, got his GYN experience there, was a high ranking offical at the organization, yet refused to perform abortions there? If he is so damn supportive of the procedure, why not perform them?

This will bite him in the ass if he wins the nomination.
From People Magazine:

Q: Were you both active in Planned Parenthood in Burlington?
Judy: We both worked there, while we were residents, but I wouldn't call it active.
Howard: And no, neither of us ever did an abortion.

Q: Why do you say it that way?
Howard: Because I always get asked that.

Q: Why didn't you perform abortions?
Howard: Because we don't do them. They don't train residents to do that.
Judy: When we were residents, we were working there basically to get GYN experience because you don't generally do it on hospitalized patients. And then you start to have a practice without having a lot of GYN experience.

Q: Do you have a moral opposition to performing the procedure? I mean, you're both physicians, you at some point —
Howard: I think that's a private matter between the physician and the patient. I don't have a moral problem, but neither of us is trained to do abortions. We're both internists. Internists don't do abortions. ... It would be malpractice if we did.

Q: Would you do them if you'd had the training?
Howard: I've learned long ago not to answer hypothetical questions like that. Both of us chose internal medicine, so we never had to make that choice. I firmly believe in the right to choose. This is a private matter between a doctor and a patient. It's none of the government's business.

Shotgun, you've got to be kidding. Just because he didn't personally perform them doesn't mean he didn't or doesn't support the right to choose. Your leap in logic is just silly.

I'm a lawyer. I don't represent criminals. Does that mean I don't believe criminals have the right to an attorney? Course not.

That's got to be some of the goofiest logic I've heard in awhile. Trust me, Rove can do much much better than that.

D2, it isn't plausible that Dean didn't do abortions...he'll be caught in the lie when a few nurses come out of the woodwork claiming Dean performed abortions. The old October surprise...

Rove gets a hard-on by just about everything he hears. That guy must have an electoral college built into his head. There isn't an issue Karl Rove hasn't tried to spin into votes rest assured.

Oh, I thought you were saying they would criticize him for not wanting to perform abortions while fully supprting them. Weren't those the ?'s you posited in your post? Sure if they catch him in a lie like that, but I doubt it. It's very plausible. His explanation made perfect sense. Abortions are very specialized, you don't jus do one here and there. That's like assuming an ER doctor must have performed brain surgery at some time. Doesn't flow.
