Ron Jeremy Plays Poker?

Well, apparently Ron Jeremy does play poker, although I don't know if he's any good. What I do know is that I've seen more of Jeremy on the small screen than I care to admit. But after five weeks of full immersion in the World Series of Poker, I'm not even fazed to see a porn star hanging out in the media room now, because if there's one word to sum up the whole experience of the WSOP it would be "surreal."

In fact, nothing is real here at the Rio Hotel and Casino. It's all a dream. A dizzyingly intoxicating dream. And every fiber of my being is still trying to absorb it all, still trying to catch up with the craziness that started five weeks ago. Today was the Media/Celebrity event, a tournament for charity where us media folk tried our hand at No-Limit Hold'em among a scattered array of celebrity notables.

Over 400 entrants sat dispersed amongst the World Series tables and competed for a grand total of $10,000 to be donated to the charity of the first place winner's choice. No matter how you finished, you weren't going to see any cash (there was no buy-in) but it was for a good cause, and did I mention we were sitting at the World Series tables? I was sweating in the same seats that had cupped the derrieres of Doyle Brunson, Phil Ivey and Chris Ferguson. It was too unfathomable to believe.

If I thought that a chimpanzee with the $10,000 buy-in being denied entry into the Main Event due to lack of I.D. was the most unbelievable incident so far, I was truly mistaken. Before that, it might've been when Men "The Master" Nguyen followed me on my pee break and asked me to find a "song" in the women's washroom ("Song" turned out to be the name of the lady Nguyen was looking for, whom I did find behind bathroom stall number two). But all this was trumped by today's Media/Celebrity event, where Elvis sat at one table serenading the dealer and porn star Ron Jeremy chatted up the ladies at another.

But Ron Jeremy wasn't the only sex industry celeb to grace the playing field. Sex symbol, Cindy Margolis didn't need to worry about having a revealing poker face as she kept her opponents easily distracted with her great orbs of female...wisdom. Not surprisingly, Margolis did pretty well, lasting until there were only four tables left. Boy, were they sad to see her go.

As the celebrities got knocked out and the battlefield got smaller, it dawned on me that I was still playing, that I was still alive. We were down to two tables. I looked out into the crowd gathered along the rails and saw Wesley Crusher from "Star Trek: The Next Generation" (actor Wil Wheaton). We made eye contact and he smiled. Like a big sci-fi geek I smiled back feeling like I'd just been transported to the holodeck where my fantasy of making it to the final table materialized.

But it wasn't a hologram in a spaceship. I actually did make it to the final table. Sure there was no money for me, no bracelet to be had, and yes, I busted out pretty quick (seventh place), but it was still a final table at the World Series of Poker. And nothing, not even Ron Jeremy propositioning the poker playing chimp for his next movie, can beat that.

LAS VEGAS, Jan 05, 2010 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ ----Ron Jeremy, the adult film star who is ranked as America's top porn actor by the Adult Video Network, is encouraging parents to take steps to protect children from pornography when they are surfing the Internet. Jeremy is recommending the use of tools such as InternetSafety.com's Safe Eyes family Internet management software to automatically block access to online pornographic content.
"Porn is definitely not for kids. Take it from someone who has worked in the industry for years," Jeremy said. "Internet filtering is an easy way to prevent kids from being exposed to this stuff, and I think that every parent should use a product like Safe Eyes."
Jeremy will air his views on pornography and square off with anti-porn pastor and XXXchurch.com founder Craig Gross at the 2010 CES International conference in Las Vegas in an event called "The Great Porn Debate" being sponsored by InternetSafety.com. The pair will weigh in on whether pornography is good or bad for adults, how the Internet has changed the pornography business, and the effect that the $10 billion online pornography industry can have on children as well as what to do about it.
"The Great Porn Debate" will take place at 4:15 pm PST on Friday, January 8 at the Mommy Tech area of the Living in Digital Times section of CES at the Las Vegas Convention Center, North Hall, 2nd floor. Jeremy and Gross will field questions from 5-6 pm at InternetSafety.com's Booth #3128 in the Living in Digital Times section.

I doubt he's been able to do that for at least 20 years, though he was able to do it based on films in early 1980s.

In his first few years with CalVista and some of the other early XXX VHS-tape leaders, he was actually in pretty good shape. But he got pretty fat pretty fast.

His staying power in the industry likely has a lot to do with his having made real smart use of the money he made early on.

<main style="box-sizing: inherit; max-height: 1000000px;">HELSINKI, Finland — The Finnish liquor distributor behind the "Ron de Jeremy" rum brand has rebranded their Ron Jeremy-endorsed product as "Hell or High Water."
One Eyed Spirits announced this week it would discontinue the Ron de Jeremy brand, which was launched in 2013, after terminating their commercial agreement with the disgraced adult performer in August 2020, according to a statement published by liquor industry trade publication Just-Drinks.
As XBIZ has reported, Jeremy is currently in jail in Los Angeles awaiting trial for the alleged rape and sexual assault of multiple women who have come forward to the District Attorney’s office with a slew of allegations against him.
After his June 2020 arrest, Jeremy pleaded not guilty to the charges. The preliminary hearing on his case has been delayed until early August 2021.
"Continuing with the brand is not a morally sustainable option for us,” a rep for One Eyed Spirits said.
According to Just-Drinks, Hell Or High Water uses the same recipe as Ron de Jeremy and includes XO (extra-old), Reserva and Spiced rums.
The Twitter account for Ron de Jeremy was still active as of today, but relabeled with the new brand name and including the statement, "Ron de Jeremy Rum will soon change its name to Hell or High Water Rum. Stay tuned!"
Tweets dating back to March 2021 show that the relabeling of the product was already under way this past winter.
One Eyed Spirits also manufactured a less popular "Hedgehog" gin, branded for Jeremy’s nickname. The Helsinki company is also behind another sex-related co-branding, the Tom of Finland gin.
