On Friday, Arizona Cardinals'cornerback, Patrick Peterson made waves by saying he doesn't believe that Seattle Seahawks cornerback, Richard Sherman is just a shutdown corner. And while I agree with Peterson's opinion that Sherman should indeed be not just a "shutdown" corner, I do think Sherman is the greatest cornerback in the overall game right now.

Truth be told, Sherman's statistics really do speak for themselves. With eight interceptions in 2014, Sherman displayed his trademark ball-hawking ways, and when opposing quarterbacks are merely able to muster a 48.4 QB rating against Sherman, it shows just how dominant of a person he really is.

Nevertheless, I do believe Sherman could eventually be overtaken because the league's top cornerback. With guys like Peterson and Joe Haden improving all the time, Sherman has some competition for the title of league's best corner. However, it's only clear that today, Sherman is the greatest at what he does.

Overall, while Peterson raised some eyebrows with his comments on Friday, the truth is, Sherman is the greatest in the overall game right now. Peterson could 1 day turn into a better player than Sherman, but as things stand today, Peterson just isn't quite on Sherman's level.
