one of the players STOPPED/gave up due to most likely injury. That said player loses the match.

depending on the book used your play may or may not be void. Have to read the rules . Some books have 'match has to be completed for wager to count' while others have 'match must have played one set for wager to count', etc.

I see. So it's a term for gave up, had better things to do, threw in the towel, raised the white flag, was too hung over to continue, or forfeit.

Lots of diff rules regarding retiriing in tennis. Definitely be sure you look before making a wager so you know
