Many agents received messages today that the 2020 Minor League Baseball season has been cancelled! MLB will expand rosters instead....fuck

Guess the positive these kids will get to experience "The Show" early IF the season happens

This is good news for the prospect of MLB. They are laying the foundation for expanded roster sizes to accommodate no off days and lots of double-headers. Nice to see some pieces moving into place.

Would much prefer they keep minor league baseball and don't really care about the majors. This is very bad news for hundreds of small/mid-sized towns across the country who rely on the minor league team for revenue and fun. Easy decision for MLB as they were contracting the minor leagues anyway. Baseball is very close to becoming the fourth US sport falling behind hockey.

Why cant all the teams get together and play at a stadium or a stadium nearby?

Makes no sense

Thought the Phoenix plan was viable other than dealing with the heat. You could have games every day/night in Tucson, Phoenix and Las Vegas as, between those three, there are at least 10 major league viable stadiums plus all the hotel space they need. Tucson is two hours from Phoenix and LV is 4.5 if they want to avoid flying. Summer is the low-census season for hotels.

it maybe be good for MLB but not the minor leaguers , especially 2a and below .

Losing a year of development could have a lifetime effect on these players .

Exactly,

I know a few kids who are going to get drafted this year.

With everything going on, i wonder if they take the professional route, stick with their 4 year school scholarships, or stick with their JC scholarship?

I have been hosting college players during the summer for the last 8 years in the Northwoods League. The league was going to be special this year as they would have attracted better talent than usual because these kids want to play ball this summer, whereas the better players usually took the summer off because they had enough ABs or IPs.

I have 5 former boys in the minors now. If they expand rosters, 2 should make the bigs. The other 3 are screwed, they have no options.

I have 1 boy from last year who was supposed to play in the Cape this summer, but they cancelled that league already. He is OK, he will go back for junior year and will be draft eligible next year. I know 2 boys who are supposed to be 1st or 2nd round this year. They haven't even confirmed there will be a draft this year. If they do have the draft, they have 2 options. Sign a contract and wait until next year to even play? Or go back to school and at least play fall ball and get another year of college ball?

Big risk for these 2 guys. I think they will sign and go pro. Too big of risk in getting hurt or having a bad senior season and lose the draft status and guarnateed money. Interesting to see how it plays out

Latest Update- April 29, 2020

We want to update our fans on where we stand with the 2020 Portland Sea Dogs season. While our season is still officially delayed, we do want to respect Governor Janet Mills' re-opening plans which restrict crowds of more than 50 through at least July.

Does everyone understand what this does to the owners? They all make their money on ticket sales and concessions. Bring in 50 people and they lose money
