If there were $32 million more on Steelers vs Chargers, why wasn't this line at Steelers -6, -6.5, or -7 so the books could get some action for San Diego?
Something doesn't smell right. Sounds like people in the media are just yanking numbers out of their ass.. "
After talking with a few people "in the know", including the guy that published that $100M number. It seems that vegas (sportsbooks in general) do not want to move their lines too much, even to reflect lopsided betting. They do this to prevend the opportunity for the smart money to "middle them". Someone could take Steelers -4.5 (about where the spread started) and then take Chargers +7 (what you are suggesting above), and hope for the steelers to win by 5 or 6. They win both ways. This is a disaster for sportsbooks, and they would almost rather have a lopsided book then have this happen. They, of course, move lines if something within the game changes a lot (like a player injured in practice during the week is ruled out). Becuase of this a lot of games end up out of balance.
