Barney Frank is on The Bill Maher Show on HBO right now and he makes a ton of sense on everything. Some English bloke, Ian McClellan, is also very wise! Maybe he is Winbet!:thumbsup2:

Question: Has anyone ever seen Pat Patriot and Rep. Barney Frank (D- Massachusetts) in the same room at the same time? Hummmmmmmm! I haven't! Curious minds would like to know.

Saw the show when it was on live on Friday. Unlike Jointpleasure, I know who my congressional rep is, and it is Barney. I've mentioned this before, but when Mass lost a district back in 1982 and the districts were redrawn, Barney Frank (a 1 termer at the time) had to run against multi-term Republican Margaret Heckler with 70 percent of the new district from Heckler's old district. Saying he crushed her in the debates does not adequately describe them. I doubt there's ever been a more devastating rout in the history of debates for an elective office.

Quick quiz... Barney Frank was first elected in 1980. Who was the incumbent that was ordered not to run for re-election and who gave the order?

Doesn't appear anyone's gonna take a stab at this.

The answer is: Pope John Paul II ordered Father Robert Drinan to leave politics.

(I purposely chose my words carefully to avoid saying that Barney was elected to fill the seat of Father Drinan).

:lolBIG: Until tonight I never realized how smart Frank is. Thanks for the trivia! GOOD NIGHT!

Is this the same barney Frank that was running a homosexual whore house out of his DC apartment?

The same Barney Frank that gerrymandered his district so badly that it resembled a snake slitheirng from the west of Boston down to the South Shore?
congdist4.gif

Is this the same Barney Frank who wrote immigration laws making it easier for foreign subversives to enter America, set up terror cells, and raise funds for extremists. One writer, Chuck Morse, who ran against Frank as an Independent in 2000, asserts Frank bears responsibility for loosening restrictions on student and temporary visas, which eased the way for the 9/11 hijackers to enter the U.S. to plan and carry out their attacks.

Barney Frank wouldn't give two shits for his constituency - he's nothing but a militant homosexual, left wing, special interests, demogogue.

No wonder this guy is a hero in Capn eyes. Any multi-term Democrat is high on CC lists.

BB, it isnt gerrymandering when its done by a liberal or Democrat. Its called ensuring democracy. Get with the program!

All I know about this guy is that he was excellent on Bill Maher's show yesterday! And anybody that tries to save tomorrow's casualties is a hero to me! You guys can molly coddle this administration all you want - you'll still be as bad as them if you do nothing to stop this war.

I doubt you will see any support from myself for this illegal war.

Guys like Frank could give a damn about the war or its victims and is merely playing the only game he knows...partisan politics.

If he cared that much about stopping the war, he would have thrown more of a fuss prior to its starting.

Then he would have been lumped in with the rest of us traitors, but unlike us, he would have been drummed out of Congress like so many others if they had dared challenge the call to freedom fighting and revenge for 9/11 by picking on a nation that had nothing to do with 9/11!

And, I do not know his heart nor do I care. I'm just trying to support the troops, because Lord knows, this administration and their supporters do NOT!

Barney Frank never did such a thing. That is complete misrepresentation of the facts.

The same Barney Frank that gerrymandered his district so badly that it resembled a snake slitheirng from the west of Boston down to the South Shore?

Completely wrong. As I relayed above, in 1982, as a result of the latest census, the state lost a seat. When the districts were redrawn, Frank, a 1 term representative, and Margaret Heckler, an 8 term representative were put in the same district. It would be fair to say that the districts were drawn up to force Heckler to run against another incumbent. However, 70% of the new district contained Heckler's previous constituency. All political analysts regarded Barney Frank as the underdog in the election. Frank proceded to completely mop the floor with Heckler in the debates. I'm surprised Heckler had the will to live when they were over. On election day, Barney Frank won by 20% points.

I'd like to know one example where a one term representative would have the power to gerrymander a district, let alone set it up so that they have to run against another incumbent (for 8 terms) where 70% of the newly drawn up district belonged to that of their oppenent.

Thanks Shorty, I don't know any of Frank's history - but he sounded great on Bill Maher's show. Base is making up stories!

Capn, it was Bblight and not Base, but I'm not sure he intentionally made this stuff up. It sounded to me that he actually believes these lies. It's unfortunate that others (like Dawoof) are duped into thinking he's relaying truth.

Anyway, had John Kerry emerged victorious in '04, my district would probably have a new representative and the guy on Bill Maher's panel last Friday would have been referred to as Senator Frank.

He also tried to buy the Patriots when they were no good because he heard that they had two tight ends that sucked.

...and hey doc derelict don't forget i got your avatar and tagline rights for the next week after crushing you in cusser's contest picking all dogs....now, either I'm very good or you are a loser.

Update:

I spoke about this with someone who has greater knowledge of the history of the 1982 redistricting than myself. Bblight is correct that the district was gerrymandered. However, his inference that Barney Frank did this for his own political benefit couldn't be more wrong.

It turns out that when the state lost one of its congressional seats someone had to be sacrificed. Since Barney Frank was a one termer and the one with the least seniority, he was chosen to be the sacrifice. So they took a huge chunk of 8 term representative Margaret Heckler's district and somehow got it to connect to Newton which is where Barney Frank had residence.

As I stated earlier, he was a sizeable underdog going into the election. What noone counted on was that he would absolutely crush her beyond recognition in the debates (think Kerry vs. Bush in debate #1 and multiply that by 50) and go on to win by a whopping 20 percentage points. He's gone on to win by even larger margins since.
