yes that was a bad call but where was the state dee on that drive an they still would have had at least two more passes on the 25 yd line. but the UTAH game was horrendous an I had utes. brutal calls an many of them against Washington.cost them the game no doubt.

Damn shame that two games were decided by the refs in the last two weeks.

just saw the play, went to bed before it ended.. that has happened in the Big10 all year.. worst officials in ncaa are in big 10

It's been really bad, but I think it's pretty similar throughout CFB. There was another great example in last nights game when MSU dodged a blantant pass inteference. The replay was telling. It showed the angle right over the side judges shoulder (he was even in the shot) watching as NU's WR could only attempt a 1 handed catch inside the five because the DB was holding his other arm down. The arm was out away from the body and there was seperation. It was such an easy call. On the last TD, there was contact before the wr went out of bounds (somewhere just inside the 15). Was it enough to wave off a flag? That's a judgment call. If it's at Michigan St, I don't think they call him out. I do think that crowd could have influenced the call. Afterall, they call it home field advantage.

I'm going to say [it] any way.....even if I'm one of the oldest guys in this Forum: Officiating today needs younger referees & umpires....College Football (and BB) are too quick and fast for these older officials to keep up with the pace resulting in a lot of bad calls being made like last night. I believe experience counts up to a point but age can nullify all those attributes.

I've heard this topic discussed before. I have heard that young people aren't getting into reffing. Why would they? Fan bases are belligerent and obnoxious even in little league, which is where they have to start out. Technology is probably the future.

I didn't realize younger people weren't getting into officiating....but I can see why as you pointed out. I go back to the days when the favorite second-guessing
was yelled out loud at a baseball game, "KILL THE UMPIRE".....Today you might be charged with a "hate-crime if you bellowed that wish. Technology ? I could very easily see how Balls & Strikes on a batter and other aspects of baseball could be made by camera or some other high-tech devise.

I'm in Vegas & I was sitting next to a guy who had Mich St ML. He was screaming FIX. I asked him how much he had on the game. He said he bet his pay check.

Baseball is too old fashion to go to hi tech for everything like balls and strikes.

If you saw rockets/clippers last night you would be saying Basketball needs it the most. Nba replay by far is the worse. It is not even close. For so many reasons. The goaltending reviewing is non reviewable sometimes. Stupidest shit I've seen in a long while. That houston/l.a game last night.

Football they see the facts but ignore it sometimes to get a crazier outcome. Example of that is last mnf. Whalen dropped that 4th and 6 but they reviewed it and called it a catch to get more dramatics on mnf. And there was....it went to OT.

And you are surprised how?

Anywhere in Vegas would cash a Social Security check from any 100 year old, blind lady in a wheel chair. Then beat her ass out of it on the slots...... Before they boot her out the door!

Just a few years ago they found out that the ref in the Ohio St / Illinois game was heavily in debt to gambling. A flag was thrown against OSU
to prevent them from winning the game. guess which ref threw the flag...

wasnt clear if he got pushed out or not but the only camera angle i saw was from way up high. maybe there were better ones i didnt see. i dont think that can be reviewed anyway.
the WR kept running OOB for a few yards but i dont think he knew he was OOB initially. he was too busy looking back for the ball.
the WR caught the ball after supposedly getting pushed out and fully re-establishing his position on field. he had his feet in bounds and ran it in for a TD.

so the issue here is whether he got pushed out, which I didnt think was reviewable?...and whether he knowingly came back in as soon as he could...which is hard to tell if he even knew he was out of bounds initially as he was looking back at the ball. the big10 says the refs got it right. i'm not sure i disagree if the NCAA rules say you cannot review push out

The TV angles are horrible. The one behind doesn't show where the contact started and the one from space... There are a couple of fan shots that show better angles. There is some contact around the 15. The DB does a really good job of corralling the WR toward the sideline. I don't know how the rule is interpreted, but there was contact, which was the part they reviewed. As I understand it, they could have overturned it if they deemed there was no contact on the WR before he went out of bounds. Either the evidence showed yes, or inconclusive that he was contacted. What can't be judged on review is the severity of that contact. It's yes or no, the judgement part of the call is made live.

I guess that line wasn't low after all. Closed lower than it opened. MSU's pass defense is as bad as Nebraska's.

The Big10 didnt say the refs got it right, only that the process they used to determine the call was right. They dont comment on judgement calls. I think it was a bad call but MSU shouldn't have even put themselves in that position. They had a 12 point lead with 3 and change left, and couldnt put a mediocre at best Nebraska team away. Dantonio made some bonehead decisions and the defense got 0 sacks on Armstrong. This inexperienced defense has been a liability all year and it finally bit them.
