This pandoras box involving the Houston Astros signal stealing scandal is getting wider and wider. Trevor Baur is going all in saying he backs up all the rumors of Astros players wore buzzers under their jerseys to receive signals on the type of pitches they were getting.

I think the time has come. MLB MUST VACATE THE HOUSTON ASTROS CHAMPIONSHIP.

An MLB investigation determined that in 2017, the Astros signaled the type of pitches opponents were throwing by banging on a trash can outside the dugout.
However, Bauer tweeted Thursday he's heard "from multiple parties" that the system evolved beyond the trash can noises to players wearing buzzers inside their uniforms.
Thursday afternoon, MLB told the New York Post that the league "explored wearable devices during the investigation but found no evidence to substantiate it,” including during the 2019 season.
Bauer's comment came in response to a since-deleted tweet from someone claiming to be the niece of former Astros outfielder Carlos Beltran – whose family denies they are related to the person who operates the account.

Just playing devils advocate, I have no horse in this race. I'm just looking for some truth

I remember when another team was caught stealing signs a long long time ago, I remember hearing there was no statistical difference for home and away games

So I looked up the Astros 2017 batting splits, home and away

Home:

Average; 279
HR's; 115
Runs; 395

Away:
Average; 284
HR's; 123
Runs; 501

Clearly much better with their bats on the road than at home, over the course of an entire season. One would think those numbers would be reversed

My argument?

1) what they did is wrong
2) I doubt they're alone
3) it didn't appear to help them

Now, how can that be? It didn't help them? Pure speculation on my part, but when they're cheating maybe they're thinking too much. World class athletes are who they are because of raw talent and god given instincts. Maybe cheating takes that away from them

Just a thought, hate away if you must

Clayton Kershaw in the 2017 World Series:

At Dodger Stadium:
11IP, 1ER, 3BBs, 15Ks, 0.82 ERA

At Minute Maid Park:
4.2IP, 6ER, 3BB 2Ks, 6.50 ERA

And yes, you can argue the fact that’s just Playoff Kershaw

But worth noting ...

In the 2017 playoffs, Altuve had a home OPS of 1.540 ... road OPS of .497

My assumption is they have the same access to video whether they are at home or on the road. They have to be able to see the replay monitor to see whether to appeal a call thus it is there for them to signal pitch selection too.

I believe it is being told that they were doing this both home and away games so home and road splits don’t come into play .

OK, I guess the challenge system opened up new doors for them, although I'm still not sure how they control the camera on the road

they don’t have to .
Since MLB instituted instant replay every MLB team has a monitor so they can decide if they want to challenge a play .

The centerfield camera is the one the networks use 95% of the time for each pitch .

Anyone can see the catchers signs when you watch the game on TV.

This was something Houston was doing at home. They had a direct feed from the centerfield camera into the dugout and had employees monitoring the feed and sharing feedback on the signs with the coaches and players, notifying them of fastballs, off speed and breaking pitches, etc. I believe there was some question about how often/when some of this was implemented during the regular season, but it was supposedly in place for every playoff game and the home/away splits for the team were significant.

Dont need a special center field camera .
Every television broadcast provides a live center field camera view .

I really don't understand the spin not strip the Astros of their title. I don't have a horse in the race but it's clear the Astros cheated. MLB should strip Houston of the title. No winner. Don't give it to the Dodgers. Just leave it blank. The argument to not to vacate is beyond weak.

Altuve claiming trouble with his wife is like McGwire claiming that andro caused his weight gain; no question that they cheated. Stripping a title is ridiculous though, that would open up a huge can of worms. Long suspensions, maybe even life, is the way to go.
