</TD></TR><TR><TD class=vaLink>Sixth-rounder Jonathan Dwyer is impressing no one early in camp, and Isaac Redman remains a longshot to make the final roster. Nailing down short-yardage duties would make Mendenhall a sure-fire fantasy pick in the latter half of the first round.

Rashard Mendenhall - RB - Steelers Though Isaac Redman will handle short-yardage duties to enter the season, coach Mike Tomlin confirmed that Rashard Mendenhall will remain the primary third-down back.
The loss of goal-line work does put a small ding in Mendenhall's draft value, but he remains one of the few every-down backs in the league. He's fine as a low-end RB1 and ideal as a RB2 paired with an elite fantasy backed. Forty receptions isn't out of the question this year. September 7 - 5:34 p.m. ET

"We are going to give him the opportunity to see if he can excel," Tomlin explained. It's obviously bad news for Rashard Mendenhall owners. Mendenhall will still see some touches near the goal line, but you can probably safely knock a few touchdowns off of his projection. Redman is worth a late-round flier or waiver wire pick-up if you've already had your draft.

"We're not going to substitute in the middle of a goal-line series," Arians explained. "[Mendenhall] can handle that job." Though coach Mike Tomlin indicated that Isaac Redman would receive an opportunity to nail down the short-yardage work, the Steelers may just be planning to use him on third- or fourth-and-short to save Mendehall's legs over the course of the game. Mendenhall remains a low-end RB1 and a good bet for 8-12 scores.
