Question on line formats for MLB...

Hi,

New member here. Will be playing mostly NFL, but have a question regarding MLB lines that a local I use offers.

The local offers MLB lines in the following format:

"Chicago White Sox 7 8.5"

I understand the "8.5" represents the total, but does anyone know what the "7" represents? This is just an example number, it could be anything, but I assume it represents the line, but how does that correlate with a standard American line (i.e. -157)?

I've never seen that before. Maybe 7 means -170??

I compare that number to lines I see on other sites, yet I still can't make the correlation between the two. I know it's extremely vague and uncommon, but hoping someone may have an idea of what it may mean.

I'm still awaiting feedback from my buddy who works with the guy. This is basically a local I'm using via a friend. Thanks for the reply.
