Is it true his economic plan calls for a decrease and/or elimination of all deductions for people who make over $50,000 per year as a household income?

Well, the answer will depend on who is around when you ask Kerry. If he is at some black church rally clapping (offbeat) to the singing then the answer is yes, NO deductions for the "rich". But if Kerry is speaking in the suburbs to middle class homeowners then the answer is of course no.

Haven't you been paying attention to the Kerry campaign?

Unfortunately I don't think anyone can say for sure what he is planning on doing....not even Kerry himself.

Mr. Kerry's goal is to cause as many people as he can to become dependent on the government for their financial well being. Kerry knows, full well, that those who pay no income tax vote democratic, by increasing the percentage of people on who rely on government, he can only increase his goal for a socialistic government. Kerry loves taxes plain and simple as has been a senator in the state of taxachusettes for many years. How could anyone think that he will not do everything possible redistribute ALL wealth evenly, but that is what a lot of LAZY STUPID Americans want and he'll get their votes.

Listening to Kerry speak of his stances on anything, is like the weather conditions over Lake of the Woods - Wait thirty minutes, it will change. And with the partisan press covering for him and coordinating his campaign, the chances of him getting crucified in the next election, is just 80 percent.

What percentage of the population is that, do you know? And, another question, what percentage of those people actually bother to get out and vote?

Empty rhetoric, my ass. That's exactly what democrats have been doing for years, get more people on the public dole depending on more government.

Its a fact that the top 10% income earners pay 90% of all the taxes.
A family of 4 that makes about 40 grand a year pays 0$ in taxes.

When Bush made his tax cuts it actually raised the threshold of when sombody pays income tax.
In other words if a family that made 40-50K and paid taxes 2 years ago, they no longer pay any taxes.
Raising taxes like Kerry always votes for on the coorporations means layoffs and the dems favorite mantra "outsourcing".
Kerry want to raise taxes only on the "rich" people makinf 200,000 or more...or in other words small buisness...so Joe of "Joes t-shirt store" has to raise the price of his shirts and work another 20 hrs a week on top of the 100 he works now.
What the dems hate to tell you is that there is an increase in small buis. somthing Kerry would love to quash because only goverment knows best.

Frankly, I think a flat tax would make sense. The rich would still pay more, in real dollars. To our resident economists: what are the pros and cons of this and why is it not the norm?

Xpan, you simply have to look at who is for the flat tax and who is against it. Democrats refuse to listen to any of the merits of the flat tax, preferring the class warfare rhetoric of the 'progressive' tax rates.

The biggest arguments I heard about the flat tax was that it would make home mortgages non-deductable, and would throw hundreds of thousands of tax accountants and lobbyists out of work. The poverty whores also don't enjoy seeing the wealthy's tax rates go down.

Okay, but in theory, don't many of the tax deductions in place (allowing for the fact that many of ours are the same, although many are likely different) unfairly favour the rich anyway? I'm self-employed (although hardly rich) and I get to claim all kinds of stuff that the average person can't. The higher my gross earnings, the more I get to claim. So what's the point? We end up with enough paperwork to make most of these tax deductions twice as costly and nobody really benefits, except those fortunate enough to be in the position to claim them.

Flat tax, fewer deductions, on ya go.

Isn't it funny that the original question was about what Kerry would do....and nobody can answer that.

That's scary! You are going to have all of these liberals voting for Kerry and they have no idea what he stands for except that he is not Bush.

The states that receive the largest entitlement paymenst from the US government almost always vote democrat. They bus them to the polls where I live, so me a guy who works has to make time out of my day, afterall polls close at 6 here, whilst those on the government dole are chaffeured to the polls. Do not beleive it? If I have a chane I will snap a photo and post it.
