Personally I would not be in favor of a HR Derby format at all because I am a baseball purist and actually LOVE watching extra inning games and the various

strategies used by managers to win it as well of course as how the pitchers and players perform.

I also believe that at least some of the players(the mercenaries for example) would say that they are in favor of it for the sake

of the fans and baseball, but that the real motive would be less work for them.

ps I respect the opinions of others who disagree with this as obviously this is not a right or wrong matter.

ps To be clear, I am also NOT in favor of ANY way to end a game in any other fashion either other than by the traditional manner.

To add excitement and ensure games don't go on too long, after the tenth inning if it is still tied the manager must chose one position player to sit out the game. After 11, same deal. This would add some strategy too.

They should have a beer chugging contest after the 11th inning

I'd bet the players would love this. Get the game over with and hit the bars sooner!

Perhaps each team should have a DS(Designated Slugger) for each game.

If the game is tied after ten innings both DS'a should march to the center of the field and duke it out for five minutes and see who can knock the

other to the ground first.

If both are standing after the five minutes, well then the four umpires can vote on who won the battle with the umpire-in-chief's vote

being the deciding one in case of a tie.

I was going to suggest an Aaron Burr style duel between the two players or even the managers to decide the issue, but upon further review decided

that that was a bit too harsh.

Maybe they could have an auction. Let the owners bid against each other. The winning bid get the W and the money is donated to a needy charity.

Good one-isn't that the symbolic manner in which sports operates anyways??

I love the charity aspect of it.

I think the owners could afford it.

I get a chuckle when people say how good professional athletes have it and the money they make. Fuck that I'd rather be the owner who can afford to pay those salaries and still make boatloads of cash.
