There is a publication entitled "The best of thoroughbred andicapping" by Quinn, available in hardcover, which covers a wide range of different approaches to the game. I am a serious fan and follower of the game, a second generation handicapper, and closely follow about 5 trainers, occasionally follow another 10 on the large circuits. For advice,
patience and money management, some of the best opportunities present themselves two or three times a year, some once or twice in a
two or three year period. If you want more action, follow the publications of the "progressive handicapping",www.prohandi.com, as well as the Trackmaster product lines.

Sounds great!. As I stated, I am NEW compared to most of you but i HAVE been doing reasonably well with my "capping" (I usually post harness picks for Woodbine)
I would appreciate if INSIDE could elaborate on his point about "how to bet" if he could. That intrigued me and maybe I can learn something on that here
cheers

If you are sticking to harness, and want a realistic money management approach, look for books and articles by Dr. Zeimba. These books
are 99.9% serious math, but will have an approach to how much and when as it relates to your bankroll, he deals in inefficient markets
that present themselves in the stock market and racing pools, Win as it relates to place and show. If there are any other students of
Dr. Z outthere I would like their feedback and opinions of this approach too!

Crimson,
Maybe I am jumping way ahead on you here, but does this man think that you are better off posting larger show bets then to try for wins etc?
A question that plagues me......I know that most of the time I would win a show bet (slow & steady) but it is the need for a bigger win that takes my money !

With this approach, you are, coupled with the
data, it trys and apparently succeeds in identifying mathmatical overlays in the place and show pools. Look at the results from your harness track last racing card, you will probably see some payoffs where the show payoff was greater that the place, ie where a horse pays 4.20-2.80-3.20, this system will identify this and based on your bankroll, figure how much to bet on this horse to show to take advantage of this "inefficient market"
that exists in the betting pool. obviously not for someone who likes chasing big pick 4's and sixes, (kind of like watching paint dry waiting for the right situation to come up) but I have been told that its like counting cards in blackjack.
