There's a difference between being a bad coach and being a bad fit. Just ask Rich Rod. I don't think Strong is a bad coach. He's definitely a good defensive coach. But I've never thought he was a good fit at Texas. And it's not going to get better for him with Patterson gone..He better hope they hire a very sympathetic AD that will keep him on one more year.

Agree completely. If not, he's gone this year (if not earlier).

It was a move up for Strong for starters. Yes he was stuck with the players on hand but he was obviously looking at the money. He was not their best choice so they settled. Was he a good fit no. Is the program on the decline yes. Why, the rise of Baylor, TCU, and Texas A&M. They are no longer getting the pick of the litter but those schools rose without the recruiting success that Texas was credited for. I think the Texas recruits were over rated for a while only because they were going to Texas. Now not so much.

Inside the 40 acres Civil War. This will get worse before it gets better. So are they going to bring in Luck to try to save the day?

I dont think luck would take it now...he plans to be the head of ncaa in a couple years....and gets to watch Andrew in Indy...

Yeah, that ship has probably sailed. They need to bring in someone who can mend fences at UT and try to talk everyone into expanding the conference. But I'm not holding my breath. There haven't been any good decisions made down there for a long time..

obsession
Not obsessing. It was just info that was passed along. I refrain from posting texas info.

On HC Strong - Probably a good coach but was not the first choice and landed in a bad spot. I personally never saw what everyone else saw. But that's just me. Does not mean he's a bad coach tough and I'm not going down the "race baiting' route with comments. Considering the number or retreaded white coaches, we should give that one a rest for now.

As for replacement AD, rumor was that Luck was the frontrunner but was reluctant to fire HC Brown. Of course, Patterson had no problem doing so, and was basically hired 2 days or so later. I could see Luck in the mix but ESPN is reporting that Jurich from L'Ville and B12 Commish Bowlsby as frontrunners. interestingly as it relates to Bowlsby, maybe he's getting out of dodge before the B12 is raided again this summer. Rumors are that OU is plotting their exit.

This looks like a bigtime Fexas mess to me. When AD Dodds retires they bring in Steve Patterson. The first thing the new AD does is fire HC Mack Brown and hires Charlie Strong. Now AD Patterson gets the axe and many want Mack Brown back as the AD, whose first task may be to fire HC Strong, the pick of the axed Steve Patterson who is replaced by Brown who was fired by Patterson who was....Oh never mind, this is so damn confooosing. Only in Texas

Speaking about "only in Texas"....Does the States large Mexican population follow college football ? I know they love baseball.
Years back there was a Mexican League where several major leaguers came from.....I now they love sports including Bull Fighting.

Has anyone heard from JB Longhorn lately?.....He follows Texas Football with a microscope and, more importantly, he has a "handle" on the women
in the Austin area.....I hope he is well....

Bowlsby, Luck, Jurich...al. names that have been thrown around with a couple others. They obviously arent rushing into a selection. Mack Brown's name has been brought up too and it does actually make some sense but the local word is that just wont happen. Texas doesnt seem to want it to happen and not sure Mack wants it either after he was relieved of his coaching duties.

The interim AD will be there until next August. Unless pressure came down from the UT President, I would see an interim AD firing Strong.

IMO, what this appears to mean is, barring a total disaster of a season, Strong will stay next year. It wouldnt make since to bring in a new AD in August and then fire the head coach a few days before the season starts.

Strong may not have been the first or best choice, but he is moving away from the "entitlement" or "country club" mentality that Texas football has been accused of. He cleaned house of perhaps some "bad seeds" and brought a stronger discipline to the team. We'll see if that turns into wins. They certainly arent sitting around hoping things change (switching to Heard at QB....Norvell as play caller). Seems like the Cal game will be a (ahem) strong indicator of where this team is headed.

Saban is worth 20 million; and 10 million for staff to Texas..at a minimum; but the fact still remains; who are the Longhorns gonna get as a coach; that not only will be better than Strong; but is actually an Urban Myer, Saban, Spurrier(ten years ago); who actually can move the Horns back t a consistent TOP 5 team..??Maybe Kelley back from pros..!!

No One..

What's the vibe down in Austin right now? You think they might rally a bit and take down Cal this weekend or is it a total abandon ship?

No doubt about it 8ate...........The Longhorns, once the crown jewel of the Southwest (State of Texas), is between a rock and a very hard-place. I still say politics and PC are playing havoc on a once proud program......Austin and the Texas academia on campus are way too liberal now days.
