Many stand alone statistics mean absolutely nothing. That would certainly be true of Covid statistics.

A MLB shortstop hitting .330 only means something because his stats are compared to other shortstops from the same season. If the average of all shortstops from the same year was .250 a shortstop who hit .330 begins to take on relevance.

If you want covid statistics to have meaning you have to compare them to a like sample from the same number of years pre covid or post covid.

Not that hard to understand for most of us who use probability every day to help define our bets.
