The gap between the richest and poorest was greater under Clinton than it was under Reagan. Neither one should get the blame; one-parent families is the main cause. As long as one parent families keeps increasing, so will the gap between the richest and the poorest. It is more of a social problem than an economic problem.

In 1987 (after black Monday) it was about 1900. Reagan's last month in 1989 the market was about 2200.
