I lose power almost any time it storms pretty hard. Probably average once a month, anywhere from 2-12 hours per outage. Ill call the power company and complain, ask why they dont bury the lines, why its always my half of the neighborhood etc. I never really get any answers, no discount offered etc. Maybe im being an ass or maybe I dont argue with them enough, but it gets old

I had this problem up to 2011.....with the smallest thunderstorms, my electricity would go off for 30 min up to several hours, I would complain constantly......what weird is my half if the block would lose electricity but the other half always had it.

In 2011 we were hit by a Tropical storm which is rare for Pa, & we lost electricity for 3 days. I called the company up & went off on them, & I'm assuming my neighbors did as well, cuz ever since that day in 2011, our electricity has not gone off more than 5 seconds, & that's with any storm.

What's crazy is during those 3 days w/o electricity, the other half of the block never lost electricity during the tropical storm......trying figuring that out!

My thought is that it is easier to repair above ground lines than buried ones for the power companies. They will do it here but you have to give up half your net worth for them to do it.

That's odd. My power went out yesterday as well.

You still have the best avatar.

It costs a TON to bury lines. It is, but once underground, its unusual a repair will ever be needed.

Yep.

Bought a new place several years ago, nice area, the lines were visible from back deck, I was promised they would be buried, but no they haven't done it.

Also these power companies come and cut down trees and large branches with no regard for property owners, saying they are too close to lines but they really aren't, they slash everything, cannot be stopped.

Where I live almost all power lines are buried to the residences, you only see power poles on the main roads or in older parts of the county. I've only lost power once about 10 years ago when someone drove their Jeep into a pole. My power company is one of those who cuts back, way back, any tree that comes anywhere near their lines and they aren't very artful about it, we say "that's a Dominion job on that tree right there"
