I don't know if theres any fix for this or not but I AM SURE OF IT. If I make one or two shorts posts to the RX, Google, etc. there is no problem . But if I make several post which are lengthy, it cause me to get an error when trying to shut down the computer. (Yes I know it's W98 se and I should get XP, etc. But have been reading recently where even that has problems). Exactly what is it about posting that occurs insider puter that later causes error messages upon shutting down and is there anything I can try? Be off for awhile as I'm going to Youbet. Thanks for any advice.

Posting and shuting down problems are likely unrelated. It might have something to do with a your browser in general.

I'd suggest running a virus scan, adware/spyware removal tool and make sure that you have all the available updates for win98.

But win98 in general is pretty unstable anyway. My experience is the shut down feature would work about a month after a fresh windows install then decide to stop working.

You are right bitterlm. Yesterday, I post quite a bit on several forms and it shut down with no problem.

It's not adware or spyware as I run Noadware and Spysweeper both--no problems found.

I think it MIGHT have to do with something in the YouBet Program. (I don't use the internet version but rather a CD version which connects to their site. It's MUCH more user friendly, but interfere with another program that I use for handicapping.

win98 is notorious for shut down problems. I wouldn't worry about it too much though, especially if you have plans to upgrade at which time you'll exchange shut down problems and crashes for security issues.

When I had my old laptop with Win98 I had to shutdown by turning power off at least half the time.

Win98 has numerous shutdown issues. It's outdated, but the other poster is correct, XP brings more security issues. Personally I run Win2k pro and get the best of both worlds. But I don't even know if it's available any more, not that that stops anyone
