The military dosent take people over 30.

A lot of people who are laid off are the older employees because they are usually making more money. Thus being older it is harder to find employment at similar pay. In my case I just had to start my own business.

Unemployment insurance cost are a pittance unless your company has a habit of laying people off.

Of course there will always be people who game the system. I knew a concrete contractor who kept his business in Buffalo in his wife's name so that every winter he would lay himself off and they would go to Florida.

actually, once the deployments kicked off recruiting became an issue -- at least in the army. standards were loosened. you ever seen a 40 year old private with 5 kids and a wife with a disability? talk about someone doing what he's gotta do.

lol. i think there's a 2 year limit as far as your rank goes. as far as PT just get a permanent profile. there's 20 year olds who manage to pull that off.

The US went to hell when women started entering the work force. They should be at home taking care of the kids, cleaning the house, and keeping their man happy.

Please keep up this attitude! It will guarantee the Democratic Party many successes in future elections! Thanks for being you! I wish your wife could see this..

Im glad you are laughing wulster.. I was pointing out the fact that you Republicans do not want to pay Unemployment Insurance for your workers, and the first thing you would say to someone is "Get off your ass and go get a job". but when its your turn to get laid off you would GLADLY suck off the GOVT TEET.

i may be wrong here and i'm sure you'll correct me if i am, but i haven't heard anyone complaining about americans who get laid off drawing unemployment, either republican or democrat. the only issue that i remember having heard come up was whether or not to extend the benefits an extra 13 weeks.

ah, i thought you started this. not gonna lie, i don't know what it's like to run a business. i do remember that when i did factory work that there was a popular theory that if a worker was a scumbag the company would rather see him quit than fire him, because if you quit you couldn't draw unemployment.

if i were running a business and decided i needed to lay people off, then obviously it's cheaper to pay the unemployment claims than continue to pay them at their usual wages, so therefore if an employer says they shouldn't be forced to pay unemployment claims, then should they have the right to dispose of a person's job? of course it's something that's already in the rulebook, so if i decided to run a business, hire a person to work for me, then i have basic responsibilities. it's not as simple as "it's my business and i'll do what the hell i want".

the way i understand unemployment is that it's a safety net for a person who loses his job to stay out of the poor house. after 6 months the check stops coming. obviously, if you were making a 100k, unemployment will not come close to supporting you the way you were used to, so if you owned a busines that payed that well, then you're saving money. if you're a young man who worked at circuit city for a year, then there's probably not going to be much of a difference. each state has a max amount you can draw based upon -- i believe -- the cost of living. i think in oklahoma the max you can get is around 300 a week, and i saw massachusetts pays around 900 bucks. now, if you're a federal employee you can file a claim in any state, so if i'm a resident of oklahoma i might take a trip to mass., file a claim there, then go back to okla. and wait for my weekly check to come.
