This is all about identity politics, low information voters and pitting us vs them.
Look at the stats the Guardian has been keeping on officer involved deaths.
http://www.theguardian.com/us-news/...n/01/the-counted-police-killings-us-database#
Accoridng to the Guardian, in 2016 more than twice as many white people have been killed by police then black people in the US, 292 vs 145.
But again, there is more to this than race. Race is just easy to see for the low information voter. It is easy to react to because it is visual. What these numbers do not show, but I could almost guarantee they would show, is what they have in common. I would bet an overwhelming majority of the police deaths in these cases are males, between the ages of 18-45 and actually the biggest common factor, are in the bottom 1/3 of Adjusted Gross Income for the US. But the media, movements, politicians, etc will not talk about those similarities. Females of any race, over 50 who live in upper middle income neighborhoods are not being killed by the police! Shouldn't the disproportionate race numbers be evenly applied against sex, age and AGI if the police were truly "racist"? But they are not and you will never hear that because it does not fit a groups narrative.
And let's also be 100% honest. Yes, police do make mistakes and the ones that do should be punished harshly. However if you look at the stories in the link an overwhelmingly large number of these police shootings have to be considered justified. They are still bad people out there murdering, raping and robbing. These career criminals, when confronted by the police, are not just going to give up! Just in those numbers alone, are the shooter in the Michigan courthouse the other day and Dallas shooter. So if you actually break down the number of unjustified deaths at the hands of the police, in a country of over 300 million people, we are talking about an infentesimal number. Yes, those deaths should be brought to light and the officer punished, but by no means is this an epidemic that should be front page news that it is.
