Comrade Poker Pro Dusty Schmidt Longs for the Cold Way Days
During the Cold War era, Communist propagandists in the Soviet Union were notorious for rewriting history--purging people and events as if they'd never occurred and teaching this altered version of reality in Soviet schools.
Those who bucked the Communist system--or tried to--never existed, and actions that didn't conform to Communist doctrine never occured: this was the twisted reality that was pawned off as Soviet history to the masses.
The Cold War may have ended 20 years ago, but at least one person is still purging history.
Professional poker's resident clown, Dusty "Leatherass" Schmidt, apparently thinks denying his own history will somehow make people believe it never happened!
Schmidt raised ire within and without the poker world last month when he wrote a blog post for CardPlayer.com and his own personal website, DustySchmidt.net, about online poker room America's Cardroom and said: "I was amazed to learn that they have a $250K guaranteed event on the first anniversary of Black Friday. April 15, NEVER FORGET! I say that like it is 9/11, since it kinda was in our world."
The comments outraged and offended many, including Card Player boss and fellow poker pro Barry Shulman, who several days after Schmidt's offensive blog post told Gambling911.com in an exclusive interview: "Dusty’s statement is utterly indefensible. To even think about comparing 9/11 to anything regarding poker seems like a perspective that only one who is very immature could espouse."
A day after Shulman blasted Schmidt for being a dumb ass, "Leatherass" wrote a followup blog post and apologized for comparing 9/11, when 3,000 Americans were killed by terrorists, with Black Friday, the day last year when Federal authorities closed down several online poker rooms and limited Schmidt's ability to play Internet poker.
"I want to apologize to anyone I offended," Schmidt wrote in his mea culpa. "My remarks may have been perceived as immature to some people, but really it was just me rushing through a blog post and not taking my time."
But now, a month later, a la the Soviet revisionists, Schmidt has literally purged himself and rewritten history as if both the offensive blog post and the followup apology blog post never existed.
A visit to DustySchmidt.net now reveals that both blog posts have been removed--purged, if you will--from the website (the offensive blog post was also removed from CardPlayer.com, though the apology blog post still remains).

Pretending that you didn't blog something incredibly stupid and then also pretending that you didn't just apologize for blogging something incredibly stupid doesn't mean it didn't happen, nor that no one remembers it happened.
It did and everyone does, so stop lying by denying it, you're just making things worse.
Before, people just perceived you as an idiot.
Now they perceive you as a dishonest idiot.
