Happy Turducken to everyone!!! It’s been a tale of two season for me as my first 6 weeks were solid, but it’s been downhill ever since. So I will save everyone the pain of posting any picks this week and take a break to spend time with family and friends. (Rule #367: Don’t let holidays and merry-making affect your handicapping.) Hopefully I will return fresh and kick some pigskin on my return. Following is the PD (Point Differential) Chart after Week 12. Notes at the bottom.
Ranking/Team/Games Played/Record/PF - PA
1. Kansas City (11)…10-1…+135
2. Tennessee (11)…9-2…+95
3. Indianapolis (11)…9-2…+93
4. St. Louis (11)…8-3…+70
5. Denver (11)…6-5…+59
6. Seattle (11)…7-4…+57
7. San Francisco (11)…5-6…+56
8. Green Bay (11)…6-5…+51
9. Minnesota (11)…7-4…+46
10. Tampa Bay (11)…5-6…+46
11. New England (11)…9-2…+44
12. Dallas (11)…8-3…+37
13. Miami (11)…7-4…+31
14. Philadelphia (11)…8-3…+24
15. Baltimore (11)…6-5…+24
16. Carolina (11)…8-3…+14
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
17. Cincinnati (11)…6-5…-2
18. Cleveland (11)…4-7…-5
19. New York Jets (11)…4-7…-11
20. Buffalo (11)…4-7…-14
21. New Orleans (11)…5-6…-26
22. Washington (11)…4-7…-40
23. Oakland (11)…3-8…-42
24. New York Giants (11)…4-7…-47
25. Pittsburgh (11)…4-7…-50
26. Chicago (11)…4-7…-53
27. Jacksonville (11)…2-9…-69
28. Houston (11)…4-7…-83
29. Detroit (11)…3-8…-86
30. Atlanta (11)…2-9…-103
31. San Diego (11)…2-9…-105
32. Arizona (11)…3-8…-146
Notes: It has been mainly a year of survival for most teams. The top 3 PD teams, Kansas City, Tennessee and Indianapolis have basically controlled their destiny and Philadelphia is close to joining that group. Defense and special teams have been a big part of a team’s success this year as evidenced by Dallas, Philadelphia, Baltimore and Carolina in the top 16.
Kansas City’s +135 is an average winning margin of 12.27 ppg. Arizona’s –146 is an average losing margin of 13.27. Of course, Arizona’s PD at home compared to on the road is substantial. Kansas City is on pace to score 484 points this year. San Diego is on pace to let up 456 points this year.
Minnesota drops from #3 after Week 9 to #9 after Week 12 and their remaining schedule is worth noting: @Stl, SEA, @Chi, KC, @Arz. They will have to play solid ball if they want to hold off Green Bay and the rest of the mushy NFC.
San Diego, Atlanta and Jacksonville are all battling for the first pick of the 2004 NFL Draft. My guess is that whoever wins it will also have a new head coach.
Best of luck to everyone this weekend and have a safe holiday!
