Please help me, I'm unbelievably frustrated - Uploading video

I can not for the life of my get my video from my Canon ZR65 movie camera uploaded onto my computer. I have a USB cord connected from the camera to the computer. It has the little end, and then the normal USB end. It will not recognize the camera when I connect it. What can I do. I have been working on this for hours now and I can't believe how frustrated I am now. :monsters-:monsters-

did you plug it in with the computer off? if not then shut off the computer, plug it in and boot back up

or take it somewhere, have them put it on a cd, then you can edit it yourself

hmmmm, good idea. However, it should be possible to do so I don't have to do that step everytime I want video?

I am going to best buy tonight to buy a different cord. See if that works.
