Two of our favorite starters take the mound tonight when Roy Halladay & John Lackey face off. We have made a lot of money over the years on these two hurlers but only one of them gets our cash tonight.
We have some concerns about Toronto tonight with Roy Halladay. The Blue Jays haven't hit righthanders nearly as well as lefties this season. Their bullpen has an embarrassing 7.05 era away from home. But what has us concerned the most is the lack of domination from Halladay this season. Sure he enters here with a solid 5-1 record and 2.74 era. But he isn't dominating hitters like he has in the past. Roy has just 24 strikeouts in over 49 innings of work. He hasn't struck out more than 6 batters in any game this season. In fact, in his last 5 starts he has just 16 punchouts.
The Angels are scoring .8 runs per game better vs righties than lefties. John Lackey has a terrific 1.089 whip as he is keeping the opposition of base. Look for the homestanding Angels to win this series tonight.

The Yankees continue to find ways to win against the Rangers and they will do so again on Thursday in the final game of this series. Jaret Wright will be making his fifth start of the season and it has taken him a while to get back into form but he is pitching at his best right now. He has a 3.18 ERA over his last two starts, both Yankees wins, which snapped a five-game losing streak dating back to last season. His last start was also a daytime start at home and that bodes well here.
Vicente Padilla returns to the hill after getting pushed back a few days due to the rainouts in Boston. He has been bothered by a strained right ankle for almost two weeks and he is not at 100 percent. He also has not been pitching very well as he has a 4.41 ERA over his last three starts. He was roughed up by the Yankees in his first ever start against them earlier this season and this will be his first start at Yankee Stadium, never an easy task.
