This may be a stupid question, but how are people able to send calls as "private" or "restricted" on a caller ID? I have never felt i had to do this but have a few people that contact me that way. Any help is appreciated. I posted this in the newbie folder too, but figured the tech people know the answer.

I believe their number is listed as private with their phone carrier?

Sometimes when you call out from a private number the reciever can have private number blocked, then the caller would have to dial *87 to devulge their information to the reciever of the call.

The world would be a whole lot better if everyone

If you dial *67 before the number, caller ID and *69 will be blocked. Most of the Baby Bells and some CLEX operators now offer a service to block this block; if this is in effect you will just get an error message.
