The New England Patriots have heard all the doubts for the last eight months, but on Monday night they proved yet again that they are the elite that the NFL has to offer. The Patriots christened brand new Gillette Stadium with a dominating 30-14 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers in a rematch of last January's AFC Championship game.

SEPTEMBER 10 — The Broncos officially christen INVESCO Field at Mile High with a season-opening 31-20 win over the New York Giants on Monday Night Football. The game is marred only by the broken left leg suffered by wide receiver Ed McCaffrey, and further put out of the spotlight the next morning by the terrorist attacks on the United States.

09/10/2000 BUCS RECORD LARGEST MARGIN OF VICTORY IN HOME OPENER Tampa Bay records the largest margin of victory in team history with a 41-0 win over Chicago in its home opener at Raymond James Stadium. The Bucs defense extends their streak to 14 quarters against Chicago without allowing a touchdown, and limits the Bears just 165 total yards, including 49 passing, while forcing four turnovers.

PITTSBURGH (Oct. 7, 2001) -- The commemorative footballs for Heinz Field's first game were so slippery, the Cincinnati Bengals couldn't grip them properly. That doesn't explain why they couldn't hold on to Jerome Bettis.
The Pittsburgh Steelers moved into their new stadium by downing Cincinnati with their running game, something they did often in Three Rivers Stadium, as Bettis went over the 10,000-yard career rushing mark in a 16-7 victory Sunday.
