I would put Pat Riley, Rudy Tomjanovich and Gregg Popovich before Phil Jackson.

His stupid philosophy of waiting and letting the players work it out during a slump in a game is idiotic. In the Houston game he could have called a time out and disrupted a run and a hot start by the Rockets but instead he let it go from 9-0 to something out of hand and let the Rockets stay in a groove.

He's too smug having coached Jordan and Pipped and Shaq, Kobe etc. I don't think he's top 5. Nobody can convince me otherwise but everyone has their own opinions.

Peace.

Um... Ever heard of Red Auerbach? He's got 16 NBA rings.

Now that's a record that might never be beaten.

Top 10, but not the best that is for sure.
People who claim well what did Jordan or the Lakers do before him. The Bulls and Lakers were perfect timing. The Bulls were still losing to the Pistons and about to make that jump all teams seem to, figuring out how to win.
The Lakers, come one now, Kobe was on the rise, but he was not nearly the player he came to be, he was still under 20 points a game.

no matter how good you are, it's still tough to win in the post season... doesnt matter if you have a lot of talent or not... you still gotta go out and play against professional basketball players. what does he have, 9 rings? you give those bulls and those lakers to any of the three guys sumday mentioned... none of them wins 9 rings. ill take it a step further, none of them wins 3 rings.

That's all speculation and opinion. I am sure Gregg Popovich would have won more than 3 rings with greats like Jordan and them. He got it done with Timmy and Parker, I am sure he could have done it with Jordan and Pippen or Shaq and Kobe.

Jordan ruled the Bulls. Look at the Lakers, he has Kobe, that pic of Bynum at the playboy mansion during rehab, no one cared. Jordan would have kicked his @ss!

I would say Rick Adelman is more impressive than Phil. I voted for him just having the right players.

I think Stan Van Gundy is an under-rated coach...I was very shocked when reading his background the other day...He trails from the same neck of woods as I do (played at SUNY Brockport and he was an Assistant Coach at Canisius College in Buffalo).

Lucky to have MJ, how did he do at the Bulls without MJ?

Lucky to have Shaq "&" Kobe

he only wins when he's totally stocked, so there will always be a question in my mind.

The most overrated coach in the history of the professional sports

The LAL now have a history of quitting in the playoffs under this old fart

lost 4 in a row to Det in the championship with shaq and kobe
one tear later in a must win situation lost by 20+ at home to SA
Up 3 games to 1 lost 3 in a row to Phoenix
Last yr lost by 40+ at Bos
We know what happened yesterday vs Hou

Fukk this piece of shit, why do u think he has never been the coach of the yr?

Jackson sets Lakers record for coaching wins

r

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Los Angeles coach Phil Jackson set the all-time mark for coaching wins with the Lakers Wednesday after his team beat the Charlotte Bobcats 99-97.
Sports
Jackson surpassed previous record holder Pat Riley with the win, his 534th victory with the Lakers. His players congratulated him on his achievement on the sideline after the game.
"It's been a great run here for us in L.A.," Jackson told reporters after picking up the 1,079th win of his career, fifth on the all-time list.
Jackson achieved his milestone one game after Bryant became the Lakers' all-time scoring leader. Bryant was greeted by Hall of Fame player Jerry West, whose record he surpassed, in a special ceremony prior to the game.
