Honda Classic :
Once again this tournament will be played at a new venue. Still at Mirasol, but at a brand new Fazio course. At 7400 + yds at sea level in Fla, this course will play long. The greens and chipping areas were inspired by Pinehurst #2 so accurate iron play and an imaginative short game will be important here.
Honda Matchups :
Joe Durant -130 vs Robt Gamez
An accurate and excellent iron player Joe was 4th at Doral last week. Joe has made 6 straight cuts at The Honda with a string of 14 consecutive sub par rounds.
Chris DiMarco -110 vs Robt Allenby
Being 11th in Ryder Cup points should be all the motivation Chris needs to have a strong Fla swing on courses he has always played well. Chris had a top 10 finish at Doral last week.
Tim Herron -110 vs Bob Estes
Tim won this event in 1996 and placed 4th last year. Both these results were when this event was switched to a new venue. Although Tim didn't have an outstanding west coast swing, he has still played well enough this year to be in the top 30 in overall ratings.
Fred Couples -110 vs Fred Funk
I think the length of this course could present some problems for Funk. A lot of 470 yd par 4's with crowned, tiered greens. In many cases Couples could be hitting 3 clubs less on approach shots.
Chas Howell III -110 vs Jesper Parnevik
I'm still waiting for Charles to show me something this year. With all of that talent and length I'm hoping this week he will bust out on a course that is perfect for him.
