YTD 10-5 – Pac 10 Game of the Week
YTD 36-31-1 – All Pac 10 Lined Games
<o></o>
Finished the season with two straight losses, but I’ll take a 67% season, especially in the Pac 10. Too bad I pissed most of it away on the NFL.
<o></o>
The Pac 10 has five bowl games this year…because that is all they are eligible for! Not a good year for the Pac 10, especially down at the bottom, but there were some highlights. USC started the season with a nice victory over ACC champ Virginia Tech in their back yard. <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comffice:smarttags" /><st1laceName w:st="on">Oregon</st1laceName> <st1laceType w:st="on">State</st1laceType> opened the season in <st1lace w:st="on">Death Valley</st1lace> and obviously prepared for the game like it was their national championship, only to have their all Pac 10 kicker miss not one, not two, but three extra points. <st1laceName w:st="on">Arizona</st1laceName> <st1laceType w:st="on">State</st1laceType> absolutely thumped a young <st1:State w:st="on"><st1lace w:st="on">Iowa</st1lace></st1:State> team, and Cal, a team three years removed from a two-win season, won 10 games for the first time since I’ve been alive.
I’m feeling good about a couple Pac 10 bowl games this year, starting off with Thursday’s Las Vegas Bowl. This year I will post my plays for all the Pac-10 games and rank them by stars (out of four), units, dollars, whatever you want to call it.

I bought this down to 11 at Pinnacle for -113 when the line came out. This is such a huge mismatch of talent it is not funny. See 2003 <st1:City w:st="on"><st1lace w:st="on">Las Vegas</st1lace></st1:City> bowl, when an average Pac 10 team played on of the top MWC teams. If <st1:State w:st="on">Wyoming</st1:State> has anything going for it, it is that the only game they won outside of <st1:City w:st="on">Laramie</st1:City> was in <st1:City w:st="on"><st1lace w:st="on">Las Vegas</st1lace></st1:City>. Other than that they were 0-4 on the road, against some pretty average teams like BYU, <st1:State w:st="on">Colorado</st1:State> State, Texas A&M and <st1lace w:st="on"><st1:State w:st="on">New Mexico</st1:State></st1lace>.
<o></o>
UCLA might have blew their wad against USC, but I think UCLA is a team on the rise. They have some very good young talent on that team, and have the capability of hanging a 50 spot on an average Wyoming defense ranked 75th in the country, 85th against the run. Now, UCLA’s defense is nothing to shake a stick at, and in fact is ranked 106th in the country. Unfortunately, <st1lace w:st="on"><st1:State w:st="on">Wyoming</st1:State></st1lace> doesn’t have the rushing game (ranked 75th) to expose UCLA’s defensive weakness.

<st1:State w:st="on"><st1lace w:st="on"></st1lace></st1:State>
<st1:State w:st="on"><st1lace w:st="on">Wyoming</st1lace></st1:State> has everything in the world to play for here, I just don’t think they have the skill players and depth to compete with the much bigger and faster athletes from UCLA. Hate to hang my hat with Karl Dorrell here, but UCLA should win this by 20…at least.

Chad Johnson, TJ Houshmandzadeh and about seven other future NFL players layed the wood to Notre Dame, exposing them as a team that should really consider joining the Big East and the BCS as a joke for having special deals allowing Notre Dame entry into the big party.
<o></o>
This year’s game expect to hear more of the same. <st1lace w:st="on"><st1laceName w:st="on">Touchdown</st1laceName> <st1laceName w:st="on">Oregon</st1laceName> <st1laceType w:st="on">State</st1laceType></st1lace>. <st1lace w:st="on"><st1laceName w:st="on">Touchdown</st1laceName> <st1laceName w:st="on">Oregon</st1laceName> <st1laceType w:st="on">State</st1laceType></st1lace>. <st1lace w:st="on"><st1laceName w:st="on">Oregon</st1laceName> <st1laceType w:st="on">State</st1laceType></st1lace>’s 8th ranked passing offense gets to go against ND’s 114th ranked pass defense. Derek Anderson could through four interceptions and still pass for 400 yards in this game.
<o></o>
Notre Dame had some nice wins this year (<st1:State w:st="on">Michigan</st1:State>, <st1lace w:st="on"><st1:State w:st="on">Tennessee</st1:State></st1lace>), mixed in with some awful losses (BYU, Purdue). Oregon State blew its nut at LSU, forgot there was a rest of the season until game five, then finished the year with a 5-1 rally, their only loss coming to #1 USC in a game they could have won. <st1laceName w:st="on">Oregon</st1laceName> <st1laceType w:st="on">State</st1laceType>’s defense is ranked 22nd in the country, and that includes facing USC, <st1:State w:st="on">Cal</st1:State>, <st1lace w:st="on"><st1:City w:st="on">Boise State</st1:City>, <st1:State w:st="on">Arizona</st1:State></st1lace> State, and LSU. I don’t think Notre Dame brings anything more to the table than OSU has already faced.
<o></o>
As for the mindset of these two teams…Does Notre Dame even know its playing in a bowl game? Who’s the coach? Do they really care? I can tell you <st1laceName w:st="on">Oregon</st1laceName> <st1laceType w:st="on">State</st1laceType> is thrilled to be here, especially after destroying hated rival <st1:State w:st="on"><st1lace w:st="on">Oregon</st1lace></st1:State> to keep them from the postseason.
