Florida is a fraud this year? USC is pretty good too. Saying a team must go undefeated, especially in the SEC is a ridiculous standard but with BcS I guess we are never going to get a real playoff.

1. If UGA goes undefeated, there's no way IN HELL they'll be left out, as they were just screwed last year out of the title game and were stuck with Hawaii leftovers.

Yes, they were obv "screwed" after losing to South fucking Carolina and not making their conf champ game.

It's definitely a difficult call, just because OU will have beaten Missouri and Texas and played a harder schedule does not mean they are better than USC. Who you beat during the year can help define who you are, but it shouldn't be the only factor.

If I were objectively voting and in that position, I'd just have to line all 3 of them up on a neutral field in my head and figure out who would do best in the round robin. Best 2 teams get to go. Won't be able to answer that until the entire body of work is done. But all things being equal, if USC and Oklahoma blow out all their opponents, the South Carolina game could work against UGA, as they easily could have lost that game to a horribly inferior opponent.

Perhaps we should wait until the calendar reads at least October before we start fretting over what MIGHT happen.

YourAllAmerican is right

Even though he's a horn

Texas is quietly kicking butt right now and OU & Mizzou is getting the most love in the big 12 right now.

My sooners have played poorly in the past three Red River Shootouts.

But 1st things 1st
TCU will be tough
And thank god we play Baylor at 11:30 rather than at night.

It's way too early to be concerned about who gets the nod for the title game.

I think the order of "should be in" if they go undefeated are:

Georgia
Oklahoma
USC
Florida/LSU/Alabama

Reality is USC TRIED to play a tough Out of conference game but they ended up with a piece of crap Ohio State instead. The rest of their schedule is god-awful easy. I know it is in conference, lots of rivalry's, etc etc etc. But if Georgia played 8 Tennessee clones instead of Florida, LSU, Alabama, Auburn we would all be giving them crap about their soft-schedule (much like we are Florida because they ONLY play Georgia and LSU)

However with USC looking so dominate and being so far ahead in the polls I expect them to hold the #1 spot and if it breaks down to it I expect UGA to be #1 in the Computer polls, OU #2, USC #3. So it will be really tight how it breaks down. Here's to a 3 way tie at the top!

But USC is the one who deserves to be left out.. even though they won't

The best team in the nation deserves to be left out. This by far is the most idiotic statement in this thread.

OU's big problem is public perception. That is a factor that reflects in the polls more than any formula.

In a positive light, they are looked upon as THE B-12 team very often and their offense is highly respected. In a negative light, they have this reputation for losing big games and that perception hurts their shot for an NC berth. However, if they come up big in let's say the Rose Bowl vs a top 10 team from the Big-10, for example Penn. St., it would influence their rank for years to come and put them in a more favorable light to get an NC nod. Personally I think they are the #2 team in the country and could give any SEC team fits.

???

don't confuse the Big12 with the Wac10. OU's pollster recognition is so damn high that they had to make a rule against playing in the nat'l champ game if you don't win your own conference. THE Big12 team??? I think you are overlooking The University of Texas just a little, I don't need to remind you of that game? And you are mentioning the Big10? They are almost as weak as that conference with Washington, Washington State, Stanford, Oregon State, and now when one guy goes down for Oregon their whole season is down the drain? If you put any one of the top 7-10 teams almost every year from another conference in the Pac10 they would go undefeated OR get to the BCS title game with one loss. I'm not saying USC doesn't have a lot of talent every year, very few of the recruits in that area want to go anywhere else, why would they? But just b/c you have a lot of talent doesn't mean you have the best TEAM. If OU runs the table, and Florida does the same, USC has very little chance of making the BCS title game. That Stanford loss still lingers, and USC plays who?? from here on out? SEC has taken over that spot in the BCS that the Pac10 teams used to reserve privilege over.

Seriously you need to get a clue. USC will NOT be left out of the title game if they go undefeated & we have 2 other Big 6 undefeated teams. They are in the catbird's seat being #1 overall in every way. If Ohio State wins the Big 10 which they still can, their OOC win against them trumps ANY OOC win by the other teams. If you think the SEC can't get shafted, just remember Auburn who deserved to play USC a few years ago did not sniff the title game.

As far as Oregon goes, they have lost a # of people this year alone. Stop using Dixon to compare what is happening THIS year.

Was that rule finally implemented this year? I remember it being debated in the offseason BCS discussions, but I forgot what came of it. I know for a fact that it wasn't in place last year, as Georgia was still being considered for the NC game.

An undefeated Utah or BYU should trump USC, let alone anyone who survives the Big 12 or SEC. Vanderbilt would finish second in the Pac-1 this yr as would Auburn, Alabama, and South Car. Georgia, Florida, or LSU would finish first or second. Texas Tech, Texas, Mizzou, Kansas, and Okl are EASILY better than any team other than USC in the Pac-1. USC's yr is a joke and they shouldn't be rewarded for it. 2 weeks to get ready for a Beanie Wells-less Ohio State and that was their big challenge for the yr? A road game against a Virginia team that is dreadful? And 8 byes in the Pac 1. Big deal!

Wait until USC plays Stanford before we have this discussion. Yesssssssssssss.

All joking aside, I agree with HippeeKiller. If there are three undefeated teams, the SEC team will get the nod FIRST, then USC, then any Big 12 team, then any Big Ten team, then any other PAC team but USC, then the other conferences (Mounted West, WACk, etc.).

It makes sense for the $.

Right, we know how you feel in terms of what 'should' happen, but how do you see it actually playing out (mathematically and politically) should USC, OU, and an SEC team all run the table? Who gets screwed at that point, emotion aside please? BTW, the MWC won't be considered should they go undefeated, unless there's no other undefeated teams (and even then the best two, one-loss teams may still get the nod).

We know without question, it wont be USC getting screwed? Shoot, the NCAA caught them with a smoking gun in their hand and 3 yrs later, nothing,

Anyone have an answer? Can you still play for the NC even if you didn't win your conference, or did the BCS add this stipulation in the offseason? Having no luck on Google with this.

There is no rule against it, but I highly, highly doubt that it would happen again (Oklahoma a few years ago). The pollsters made that mistake once and it blew up in their faces.

Florida is a fraud this year if you ask me. Mark my words, no SEC team will go undefeated, so it's a lost cause. And i'm not buying USC either, who the hell have they played, and who are they going to play the PAC 10 and Notre Dame. That's really hard, uuhhhhh. Stop it, it's week 5, theirs going to be a lot more to talk about later on. Start this thread in Week 10

Whats wrong with a schedule consisting of the entire Pac-10 along with Ohio St, Notre Dame, and at Virginia? Much better than 98% of the other powers, who schedule Sun Belt, CUSA bottom-feeders, MAC, and 1-AA and lower teams.

Everyone has a theory about what will happen. BYU will not be in the title game Mark it down!!! If USC goes undefeated they are in. If Oklahoma and UF or Georgia goes undefeated I believe the SEC champ goes. This is too early to be talking about this but some of you really need to get a clue and stop drinking the kool-aid of the college you like. Florida is a good team and so is Georgia and Oklahoma. Who ever wins the UF-UGA game will be getting the national attention of the media from that point and will get the neccasary attention needed to get to Miami.

Can't wait for that game and can only hope both teams come in undefeated. BTW, UGA has to face LSU on the road the week prior to that game, wow! UF's schedule falls so perfectly for them to run the table this year. Whatsmore, they have revenge in both of their two remaining tough games, which are home to LSU and neutral UGA. I think UGA's slightly better than UF overall, but UF has the major scheduling and psychological advantages.

BYU even if they are undefeated and no other team is undefeated still wouldn't get into the BCS title game, there's a chance they could, but it would be highly unlikely. Utah might. I know BYU wouldn't b/c I asked. You have to know how the formulas work and how the polls work. USC will be leapfrogged in every category if OU runs the table, that is fact. Even if the PAC10's top teams won out every game except vs USC the Trojans are screwed b/c of SOS. USC could win the rest of their games 67-0 and OU would still pass them up. This is OU's remaining schedule:

#23 TCU
@Baylor (on the up with pollsters with that near win @CONN)
#7 and rising Texas
#18 and rising Kansas
@Kansas State (will prob finish in top25)
Nebraska
@ATM (who knows with this team)
#9 Texas Tech (and rising, of course the Big12 teams play each other)
@Oklahoma State (if they beat Troy will be top 25)

This is USC's remaining schedule against ranked teams:

(crickets chirping)

ok this is USC's remaining schedule:

@OreSt (tuffy)
@Oregon (might be ranked, but they have QB issues)
AZST
@WashST (prob top 10 of WORST Div 1 teams)
@AZ might be top 25
Wash (prob top 5 of WORST BCS conference teams)
Cal (might be top 25 at some point)
@Stan (lot of top 10 teams in this conference in the WORST way)
ND (a win by less than 30 over them will drop you in the pollster's eyes)
@UCLA (how does one conference have so many bad teams?)

And if Texas beats OU and loses once but wins the Big12 title they will probably still get in over USC, ditto for OU. Missouri gets in if they run the table with wins @Texas and the Big12 title game over OU.

With the SEC teams of FLA and GA and LSU etc. it gets more complicated b/c it's highly likely each team will have at least one loss, but a one loss FLA that wins SEC title game jumps USC for sure, LSU almost 100% sure since they are defending champs, and GA probably does.

If you have the BCS formula it's easy to plug in and the rankings are pretty easy to predict within a couple of spots after wins and losses for the top teams or more importantly where they will end up at THE END OF THE YEAR after various losses. SOS is complicated but USC will lose so much ground there that...

USC is screwed.

ATX - let's take your post point by point.

First off, BYU *could* make the NC game, but they would need to go undefeated AND there'd have to be NO MORE than 1 team with only one loss. They would FOR SURE get in if they were the only undefeated team and there were NO TEAMS with only one loss. Agreed, unlikely.

Second, USC would NOT be leapfrogged by OU "in every category" as USC would still be the overwhelming #1 in BOTH the AP and Coaches polls. Those hold MORE WEIGHT in the overall BCS calculations than being #2 vs. #3 in the computers. In fact, if anything, OU (who is currently the SLIGHT #2 in both of these polls) would most likely DROP to #3 in both of these polls throughout the year and be overtaken by an undefeated UF or UGA.

Third, as I stated in the first post, no one is denying that OU would leap USC in the computers, but it wouldn't be by that much of a margin. Whatsmore, OU would still be behind UGA in the computers if UGA were to run the table. If UF runs the table, OU would still be behind them as well in the computers, but not by as much as they would be behind UGA. Regardless if it's UGA or UF who runs the table, the computers would read like this... SEC, OU, USC with OU and USC being much closer to one another than the SEC and OU are. So your math doesn't add up.

Simply put, USC would still be the overwhelming #1 in BOTH the AP and Coaches and would be a very CLOSE #3 in computers, making them #2 overall. Whereas OU would be #2 or MORE LIKELY #3 in both the AP and Coaches polls and a distant #2 in computers (and just slightly ahead of #3 USC in comptuers) and this would make OU #3 overall.

Also ATX - Can you provide a link to your earlier statement that a team who hasn't won their conference can't play for the NC? Not that this would be a possibility again this year, or maybe ever again, but I can't find anything online to support this and I can't remember if the BCS actually added this stipulation after the fiasco from last year.

A win over ND by less than 30 will not drop USC. Funny stuff there.
