I am in the field and a Plasma is a superior product. If you have ALOT or a big bay window with tons of light get an LCD. Otherwise get a plamsa. If you want more info I would love to share it. I love techy nerdy stuff like this.

I have narrowed down my choice between a Samsung 50" plasma PN50A450 and a Panasonic Viera TH-50PX80U. Leaning toward the Panasonic. Can you offer any insight or other models I should be looking at? Want to spend less than 1k. Thanks.

Lots of people trying to justify the fact that they went LCD over Plasma but the reality is that the Plasma's available these days have addressed burn in.

I have a 42" and a 50" from LG and the 50 is in a room with about 5 windows that have wood blinds on them and glare is no problem at all.

Burn in has been addressed in a lot of ways and is more or less something that used to be an issue but no longer is a concern.

Go with a bigger plasma, stick with name brand and you will be fine.

Also get out of bed early on Friday and you can stay under a grand on a 42".

i have panasonic 720p plasma and philips 1080p LCD

Plasma is way better in a dark room but if you have lots of light then you will have to go LCD.

dont buy vizio or the cheap lcd's they have low contrast ratios

plasma is dirt cheap these days but as above depends on your room.

Just to add a bit... If you're not stuck on having the ability to display 1080p, you can essentially buy two very nice plasma's for the cost of many LCDs. For instance, the 50px80u (a VERY nice plasma) can always be had for under $1000 (and many times for under $900).

Check out avsforum.com, and read some of the threads on burn-in if that is your only concern - I'm pretty sure after breaking in a plasma burn-in isn't much of an issue these days (pixel-shifting on most plasmas now).

I purchased two 42" Panasonic 42px80u tv's through Amazon. I got them for 649.99 each which included white glove delivery. The picture is very nice and I am happy with the purchase.

buster, Thanks but NO MORE VIZIO'S for me as i had a 32inch vizio lcd for just over a year & got burn in or out what ever they call it but luckily i purchased a 2yr extended warranty & got the purchase price back . The tv repairman said they have a lot of problems with vizio's. From the research that i have done the samsung 10, contrast ratio is rated very high & i don't need a large tv as the viewing area that my wife is in is about 6-8 ft. I still use my sony 36 inch w/picture tube in my den.
