We'd better be careful.

West is on crusade - 'Bin Laden'
The West's moves to isolate the new Hamas-led Palestinian government prove it is at war with Islam, a tape attributed to Osama Bin Laden declares. The tape also described the situation in Iraq and Sudan's troubled Darfur region as further evidence that a "Zionist-crusader war" was being waged.
The recording was broadcast by Arab satellite TV al-Jazeera on Sunday.

The White House said US intelligence believed the tape was authentic.

If so, it is the first message from Bin Laden since January 2006, when he threatened more attacks on the US.

Public responsibility

The speaker on the tape said that along with their governments, the people of the West bear responsibility for what he called a "Zionist-crusader war against Islam".

"The war is a responsibility shared between the people and the governments. The war goes on and the people are renewing their allegiance to its rulers and masters," he said.

"They send their sons to armies to fight us and they continue their financial and moral support while our countries are burned and our houses are bombed and our people are killed."

He said that the decision by some Western powers to cut funding to the Palestinian government since the militant group Hamas won elections there was further proof of this anti-Islamic campaign.

White House spokesman Scott McClellan said the tape had been assessed as authentic by intelligence agencies.

"The al-Qaeda leadership is on the run and under a lot of pressure," he told reporters.

"We are continuing to take the fight to the enemy abroad and making it difficult for them to plan and plot against Americans."

But the US ambassador in Iraq, Zalmay Khalilzad, warned that Bin Laden still posed a threat.

"I believe we need to take him seriously," he said in an interview with CNN, adding that Bin Laden wanted to show he was "still a player".

The Hamas government moved quickly to distance itself from the tape, saying it was keen to maintain good relations with the West.

We are not at war and we need to leave that Country right away cause we serve no purpose there. Our sons and our daughters are getting killed for no reason and I abhor this action greatly. Hate what we are doing. That's all I want to say about this.

I know this much - there have been NO terrorist attacks in the US since 911.

IMO, the war is responsible for the halt of attacks on US soil - all of the goverments over there know that Bush wuodl attack them in a second if there's another terrorist attack and he could link them to it.

He's talking about the vote in the house to end the war and bring our troops home - this vote was after the Democrats Murtha came out against the war.

403 voted for the continuation of the war and 3 vote3d against it.

This is very trure, bblight. However not just attacks on US soil, but also attacks on ANY US interest throughout the world. Not as much as an egging, since the terrorists realized Al Gore, (who would have imposed martial law after 9/11) wasn't in charge. I think they got the message.

Unfortunately, as soon as another liberal comes into office (or even another RINO), the bloodshed of innocent civilians will resume. :Sad Face:

So what's the long-term strategy? I mean, it seems like nobody's too concerned with catching OBL anymore, and it's not like the citizens of the ME are warming up to the US en masse ... so is the long-term plan to just keep on fighting in Iraq so that the terrorists are too busy to attack you elsewhere? Are you worried that once the war ends (assuming this happens eventually) that they'll turn their attention back to US targets?

(not rhetorical questions.)

They're too full of themselves and their 'success' at thwarting the terrorists to think in realistic terms! Oh, praise the great leader GWB - he reminds me of the great leader in Conan the Barbarian!

So I guess if the US did not respond to 9/11 only OBL would be at war?...isn't that nice and PC.

Not to mention the current admin never should have let it happen on their watch in the first place !

An empire. In a nutshell. A financial empire backed up with the threat of force for the uncooperative. It's not a popular cause because of the poor press empires of the past have been given once they crumble, and obviously not politically astute to admit to. In the eyes of some of the empirialists of course, they can be fairly attractive concepts. World domination has always had it's proponents, and silent enthusiasts, even outside Jame Bond movies. With a rising Asia, energy control is vital in the new world order, and the US doesn't want to lose it's place. Maybe it will work, hard to tell. But things would have to get worse before it would come to pass. Security is a red herring, and trying to find a coherent long term policy centered on security to explain this administration will give historians quite a challenge, IMO.

"Your soldiers" are independent heroic volunteers, strongly believe in the importance of their mission, and would take issue with a transparent patronizing posture from anyone who claims to know what's best for them.
