The original example in this thread stated that everybody was in the pot. That will never happen, so I assume that you are talking about a normal case, where 2-3 people have show some interest in playing the hand.

In that case, with AA I am trying to get somebody's stack into the middle against me (pre-flop if possible). I reraise in a way that will attract the most action and hope somebody thinks I am getting out of line and decides to punish me.

The way to play AA or KK pre-flop is a samllish raise, you WANT to be called. If you get 9 callers, you have put in 10% of the cash with a 35% chance to win the hand which is a great edge.

Poker is about winning money not hands. If the flop comes highly textured and you're getting lots of action from solid players, throw those big hands in the muck.

The hands you want to raise hard are the ones where you really only want 2 or 3 callers max. QQ JJ TT AK

Give me AA and 9 callers every time and I will show you big profits even winning only 35% of those pots.

This assumes you are not short stacked in which case you do need to raise AA hard and get only 1 caller - 80% fave - or 2 - 60% fave - and just hope to win a small or medium pot.

Thanks, I never really thought of it that way...
