Some people would like it tightened up, but I'm actually fine with it just the way it is. The trolls will be trolls, and that comes with all sites. You can just stroll on by (like some of us do) or you can use the ignore button if one of them is annoying you too much.
One of the reasons I like the policy here is because I have found an unfortunate trend at most other sites and it relates to a form of cyberbullying (usually done in cliques). To give one of my favorite examples of this, there was a poster on a site I belonged to that was angry about an alleged thief that he caught on camera at his front door. Apparently the guy saw an Amazon package on his doorstep, picked it up, and then looked up and saw the camera. He put the package back down and walked away. The poster put the video on the site, and then said we need to rid the neighborhood of these thieves. You know what he looks like so let's go get this guy!! People cheered him on and were ready with the pitchforks and flames burning. This continued until I made a comment. I asked him exactly what he wanted us to do when we caught the guy? What crime did he actually break (figuring an insignificant claim of trespassing was probably the best he had)? I went on to tell him that rather than put his neighbors in harms way, there were a few simple things he could do to ensure his packages were delivered safely:
1) Use an Amazon locker
2) Require a signature
3) Have it delivered to his trustworthy neighbor if he wasn't going to be home
4) Get a PO Box or arrange for pickup at Post Office
5) Follow the tracking of your package and make sure you're home when it arrives
I thought this was practical advice, and what happened next surprised me. Daggers, daggers, daggers. I could barely answer one reply before someone else came back with a snarky response. I kept my cool throughout but had noticed a disturbing trend on the site (and this trend is running rampant on internet forum). And that trend is the moderators are part of these negative cliques. Everything is sunshine and lollipops until someone says something contrary to the Echo Chamber. And then not only does all hell break loose, but if you try to defend yourself, guess who gets suspended? Yep, you.
There are a lot of pissing contests on this site, no doubt. I'm personally fine with it and can hold me own with anyone here if it comes to that. Some of these fights can actually be humorous. And of course, some are the type of juvenile behavior one would expect from a 5 year old. With that said, I will take the amount of light interaction of mods here any day over alternatives like the ones mentioned above.
