Miami Dolphins +8 (-110), 1 unit:
I'm not willing to back the Bengals who are traditionally a bad prime time team, especially giving more than a TD on a short week. The Bengals D just isn't the same this season and I know Burfict is back but he's only playing a limited number of snaps tonight and he can't be ready to make a difference. The Dolphins have struggled this year but I'm confident that this number is too big based on an overreaction to their struggles last week against Cleveland.

It really doesn't get much worse than last week, and frankly what I've done YTD. Really hoping to turn it around today. GL to everyone. Brief write ups so you can use the info to follow, fade or laugh.

10/16/2016 (YTD: 17-24-2, -11.20)

Carolina Panthers -2.5 (-120), 1 unit:
As square as it comes but the difference to me is a healthy...not Newton but...Stewart. Both defenses are awful. Panthers ability to run will be the difference.

Jacksonville Jaguars +2.5 (-110), 1 unit: Jags coming off a good win in London and a bye. This one has the makings of a shootout and the Jags have more weapons.

Los Angeles Rams +3 (-110), 1 unit: Too much emphasis on last week. Lions beat an overrated Eagles team and the Rams ran into a buzz saw. Much better D for the Rams and Gurley will run all day against the Lions. Don't be surprised if Goff gets a series or two.

San Francisco 49ers +7.5 (-110), 1 unit: Kaepernick is the right QB for a Chip Kelly offense. He will bring a dimension Gabbert does not. Doubt the Niners win the game but they do enough to stay in it.

Green Bay Packers -4 (-110), 2 units: Prescott continues to impress but he has not faced a run D like this one yet. Rodgers will exploit a mediocre Cowboys defense that has yet to face a strong QB.

Houston Texans -3 (-110), 1 unit: This number makes no sense. Must be the Luck name recognition. The Colts secondary is just awful and even though Osweiler has been nothing special he's going to have WR's running open all day. Texans D certainly misses Watt but has more than enough to shut down the Colts offense. Texans have two losses to possibly the two best teams in the NFL. This division is very up for grabs and the Texans know they have to have this one.

We've now reached the point where I am an embarrassment. I can't even get the best number. I'm losing on "sharp" plays and "square" plays. Tempted to go on tilt and try and chase but will do my best to stay disciplined. Maybe need to reduced the number of plays.

New York Jets +7 (-110), 1 unit:
Really liked this one until I saw that everyone and every tout was on it. I'm sure it's another loser. Hopefully Ken O'Brien, Freeman McNeil and Marc Gastaneau play better than Kelly Stouffer, Stump Mitchell and Dan Dierdorf.

Let's call this what it is....a total disaster. The only thing good about my picks this year is that I haven't sprained a finger typing these things up. I've been too focused on making sharp picks instead of trusting what I know and what I used to be good at a few years ago. I'm going to go back to my old methodology. I still may suck but at least I will know why.

10/20/2016 (18-29-3, -17.60 units)

Green Bay Packers -7 (-125), 2 units:
The Packers are not the same but let's take a closer look. They have a three point road loss to the best team in the NFC and a disaster last week. Yes, they are injured and they have no secondary. But, are the Bears the right team to take advantage of that? The Bears have one win where they put up 17 on an awful Lions D. They also lost to a bad Indy squad. Look for a rejuvenated running game with Knile Davis showing what he can do after sitting all year. Aaron Rodgers has not forgotten how to play football and even with all the injuries, on a short week I think the Packers get it done.
