How come you post all your records for every sport at the beginning of every thread? Football season is over pal.

Please feel free to post your plays anytime in my threads. No need to do a separate thread unless you wish. Glad to see you're on Oklahoma State as well. Thought about UConn and Pitt as well but too tough to call for me to make them rated plays. Good luck tonight.

J.I.P.S.

My wagering year starts from the beginning of the NCAAF Classic in July through the NBA Finals in June. I registered with the RX in December 2003. As such, it is my desire to post a continuous updated record in its entirety to allow the reader to see the breakdown of the entire record by sports. This allows the reader to view for themselves where I may be doing well or not so well. I have considered dropping the football element but leaving the overall records, both in units and wins and losses but it may cause the reader to be confused as the numbers would not add up, i.e. showing the current hoops record would leave a new reader not understanding the overall records. Lastly, showing all sports in one location, indicates the overall record of the person and the profit or loss made for an entire year from all sports. After all, money won or lost is total to the player. Although you may disagree, I hope this answers your question. Good luck to you in your plays.

To answer your questions, let's start first with my strength of sports in handicapping. Football is my strongest sport followed by basketball, then baseball a rare and distant third. I don't handicap hockey.

Normally, I will complete the football season before beginning the basketball season. This allows me to pick up college hoops in the stretch drive leading to the conference tournaments and March Madness. Also, this allows me to pick up the NBA season at about midpoint and takes me through the NBA finals. I would do this in order to keep this oldman fresh.

This year, I made a change to this routine by beginning college hoops and the NBA modestly in December during Bowl Season and the NFL stretch drive to the playoffs. Although I started well enough both in college and pro hoops and still had a good Bowl Season and NFL Playoffs, I began to tire a bit in January in college hoops. That's why I took a break for a couple of weeks before the Superbowl. Since returning following the Superbowl, my posted college hoops record is 8-5 and my NBA plays are 1-0-1. I feel fresher now and look forward to the stretch drive in college followed by the tournament, then the NBA stretch drive and playoffs.

One last point. I pride myself on being a big game handicapper. What I mean by this statement is that the more important the game is, the better my winning percentage becomes. An example of that is my record in the Bowl Season and the NFL Playoffs, particularly the Rose Bowl where I released my only 5* play of the year so far on USC and the Superbowl where I released a 3* play on Carolina. Over the years, this has developed. I expect the same to occur as each game in college hoops and the NBA become more important, particularly the Conference tournaments, March Madness, and the NBA playoffs.

I hope this helps answer some of your questions. I never mind sharing my thoughts with fellow posters, particularly those that ask sincere questions. Good luck to you in the future.

Thank you for the kind words of support. It is truly my sole desire to share with my fellow posters the lessons I have learned through my 30+ years in this business. Believe me when I tell you that the positive responses from members of the RX are all the reward this oldman needs to keep going. Be well my friend.

As you and I have discussed in the past, this is a business first and foremost. I truly feel that if I were to handicap baseball on a full time basis it would adversely effect the followng football season, as I use the summer to prepare intensely for the upcoming NCAAF and NFL season. As a result, those are the seasons, that I am most successful. The risk isn't worth the reward.

You are correct, however, the money lines and run lines can provide excellent value and the ability to ride winning streaks is much greater in MLB and I suspect hockey as well.

Lastly, you bet you need Giants fans to offset those Braves fans.

nice victory with Ok St tonite...

this game actually brought up an interesting situation which I have founds hits at a decent clip....however havent tracked it...

Ok state was up by 18 at the half. The line for the second was Kansas -4.5...I guess the logic is that the second half will even out & that the game will be closer to the original spread, they may also figure that the starters will sit.

I have found there is excellent value going with the team that was originally favored but is now,due to their dominant first half, getting points!!! seems weird doesnt it?...after all even if the bench starts to play, it is their turn to shine...any thoughts on this guys?

Hey Oldman,

I always love to see you win. In a board full of people questioning and attacking you are always solid, honest, polite, and a demonstrative presence.

BOL to you and congrats on a solid play

That is an interesting second half concept. I would consider tracking it for quite awhile first before considering it a solid trend. Logic would indicate that when a team holds a large lead like tonight, their level of play softens a bit in the second half thereby letting their opponent cut into the lead. The favorite may hold for the cover but may lose the second half. It just so happens tonight was really a mismatch of level of play as well as intensity, thus the lopsided win. I agree there are many times to replay either the favorite or dog in the second half but it really depends on the fundamentals of how the teams are matching up and playing that particular night. I like that you look for creative ways to gain an edge. Duly study the trend and see if it has merit before placing your money down. The time spent tracking a trend will be well worth it in either money made or saved down the line. Continued good luck to you.
