JOEY C, YOUR SILENCE IS DEAFENING ON THIS SUBJECT. WOULD YOU PLEASE TELL ME I AM WRONG NOW. YOU READ MY SCENARIOS WHERE BOTH GRANDE AND CRIS HAVE MOVED ON AIR AND ALL YOU SAY IS MAC HAS BEEN BACK FOR 2 WEEKS NOW. I WILL REPOST SOME OF THOSE SITUATIONS IN CASE YOU MISSED THEM. C'MON TELL ME WHERE I AM WRONG.

LETS SAY A MOVE COMES IN ON IOWA -6 AND THE WHOLE SCREEN GOES TO -7.5 AND PURPOSELY GRANDE AND OR CRIS WASNT HIT ON THAT GAME. BOTH OF THESE EXCELLENT BOOKMAKERS (WHO HAVENT TAKEN A HIT YET) WILL MOVE THE GAME TO 7 OR AT LEAST -6.5 AND TAKE THE HIT THERE. FOLLOWERS WILL ALWAYS LAY THE BAD # BECAUSE THEY ARE CLUELESS, SO THESE 2 BOOKS WILL GET PLAYED AT -6.5 OR -7 WHEN THE WHOLE WORLD IS AT -7.5. WHY IN THE WORLD WOULD THEY BOOK A BET AT -6 WHEN THEY KNOW 100% A FOLLOWER WILL LAY -6.5 OR -7. ASK THE 2 EXCELLENT BOOKMAKERS THEMSELVES WHAT THEY WOULD DO IN THAT SITUATION AND IN FACT HAVE DONE IN THE PAST. ONLY AN INCOMPETENT IDIOT WILL NOT MOVE ON AIR IN THAT SPOT.

JOEY C IN COLLEGE HOOPS WhERE GAMES GO FROM -1 TO -7 ON ARK LITTLE ROCK VS ARK ST DO YOU REALLY THINK CRIS AND GRANDE TAKE A HIT AT EVERY # UP THE LADDER.
DO YOU THINK THIER CHART LOOKS LIKE THIS:
ARK LR -1 5000
-1.5 5000
-2 5000
-2.5 5000
-3 5000
ETC.... 5000
-7 5000
DONT THINK SO, NOW GET OUT OF FAIRY TALE LAND AND ACCEPT THAT FACT THAT EVEN THE 2 GREATEST BOOKMAKERS ON EARTH(AND I DO FEEL THEY ARE) WILL MOVE ON AIR, WITHOUT QUESTION.

HAVE YOU EVER SEEN AN OBSCURE 2ND HALF LINE WHEN A TEAM IS UP SAY 35 POINTS AT HALF IN THE NBA AND CRIS PUTS UP -2 AND OLYMPIC PUTS UP -6 SIMULTANEOUSLY, AND MAGICALLY BOTH LINES ARE -3.5 WITHIN SECONDS. IS THAT NOT MOVING OFF AIR???? DO YOU REALLY THINK THAT BOTH TOOK LIMIT BETS IN THAT 9 SECOND SPAN. NOT A CHANCE!!!!!!!!! BOTH BOOKMAKERS DO THE RIGHT THING BY ADJUSTING THIER LINE WITHOUT TAKING A HIT(MOVING OFF AIR) AND IF THE DIDNT THEY WOULD BE BROKE AND NEITHER OF THOSE 2 SHOPS ARE BROKE.

Wrong?

Sure:

1. You can't compare small school games that only a hand full of "wise guys like BW plays" to 98% of the board.

2. Mac is back.

3. Sure, sharp opinions will try to bet off screen sometimes to steal a number but they aren't going to get down for much $$.

Grande, Cris, Oly, Pinnacle usually would be the first choice outs for syndicate action as the smaller books would have small limits compared to these books, if they have lines posted at all..

4. I never said that on smaller games, but you assumed for an example, 1/2 point ladders are used. Fact is, on Sunday eves before the opening lines are even put up on the screen, the lines have moved on some of the games by 4 -5 points in college football.

5. Last year more and more stores moved their numbers in bigger steps, and offered say 1/2 limits until Thursday, except for squares.

6. I predict this year, you will see more and more stores circle the smaller games - as added games, with much lower limits. They are getting tired of paying the asassins on these games because there is no buyback from the public, unless the line goes up too far and then the books get middled when the number falls.

Just my opinion, but I think the times are a changin...

JOEY C, ALL YOUR POINTS ARE VERY WELL TAKEN AND ARE VERY ACCURATE, BUT MOVING OFF AIR MEANS MOVING OFF AIR. DOESNT MATTER IF ITS THE RAMS AND NINERS ON MONDAY NIGHT OR HOFSTRA VS DELAWARE ON SATURDAY MORNING. MY POINT WAS THERE ARE TIMES WHERE BOTH BOOKS WILL MOVE OFF AIR AND I AM CORRECT. MY ARK LR EXAMPLE WAS IN BASKETS AND NOT FOOTS AND THOSE GAMES CAN MOVE 7 POINTS IN A 2 HR TIME FRAME. IF YOU DONT MOVE OFF AIR YOU WILL BE BURIED. I AGREE WITH MOVING OFF AIR AND IT IS THE RIGHT THING TO DO IN MY "SPECIAL SITUATIONS" BUT I DONT KNOW WHY PEOPLE HAVE TO DENY THE FACT THAT ITS DONE.

NOW OF COURSE THEY DONT MOVE OFF AIR IN NBA AND NFL BECAUSE THE LINE IS SO STRONG BUT THERE ARE IN FACT SPOTS WHERE IT IS DONE.

I WAS ON VACATION FOR 2 WEEKS AND HAD NO IDEA MAC WAS BACK AT CRIS, SO I WAS WRONG IN 1 POINT I MADE AND IT HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH MOVING OFF AIR. JOEY YOU LEFT OUT ONE POINT, HOW ABOUT MY HALFTIME EXAMPLE WHERE CRIS USES -2 AND OLY USES -6 IN A 35 POINT BLOWOUT AND BOTH ARE MIRACULOUSLY AT -3.5 IN LESS THAN 10 SECONDS. IS THAT NOT MOVING OFF AIR. ALSO YOU PRETTY MUCH ADMITED TO MOVING OFF AIR ON THESE RINKY DINK CONFERENCES, I DONT CARE IF IT WAS ONE GAME IT HAS BEEN DONE AND MUST BE DONE TO AVOID BEING SLAUGHTERED.

are you telling me that if lakers are -9 over pistons, and an announcement comes across dbest that shaq is out, that they take hits all of the way down to 6 ??

THEY MOVE OFF OF AIR

don't ever say a book doesn't move off of air

blanket statements are not very smart to make

Guys. This thread is getting stupid.

There are exceptions to every rule.

So I'll try to explain my side this way:

Many if not all of the middle and smaller sized books will move their lines when one of the big shops they happen to follow move their lines.
even if they more money or no money on a side of a game - moving on air.

The larger shops will move their lines - not always in 1/2 pt ladders when they get in bets from opinions they really respect, and in concert with their total $ on a game, as they are trying to get some buyback - real bookmaking.

For example, Cris 99.9% or more of the time, will not move a -9 game to -9 1/2, just because say Olympic did ( moving on air).

Cris may move the number to -9 1/2 if and when action warrants such a move - moving on action.

So if I said never, ok I'm wrong, but as a general rule and normal matter of practice the bigger shops do not move the overwhelming majority of games on air.

Can we close this issue now???

JOEY C, I DONT DOUBT YOU ARE A SHARP GUY, AND THAT YOU HAVE VALID POINTS BUT WHEN U MAKE STATEMENTS SUCH AS GRANDE AND CRIS NEVER MOVE OFF AIR YOU ARE OPENING YOURSELF UP. MY PROBLEM IS THIS: I MADE A STATEMENT THAT SAID EVERY SINGLE BOOK MOVES OFF AIR AND I WAS ATTACKED AND TOLD I WAS WRONG. I STATED THAT CRIS AND GRANDE DO MOVE OFF AIR THE LEAST. I AGREE THAT MOVING OFF AIR IS NECESSARY AND MUST BE DONE TO SURVIVE, BUT I CANT STAND WHEN BOOKS DENY THE FACT THAT THEY DO. I DONT UNDERSTAND WHY BOOKS CANT ADMIT THAT THEY MOVE OFF AIR, THEY ACT LIKE THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH IT AND OTHER POSTERS JOIN IN AND SAY THESE BOOKS DONT MOVE OFF AIR.

P.S. I AGREE WITH ALL YOUR LAST POINTS BUT THEY ARE FROM FROM HOW YOU STARTED WITH GRANDE AND CRIS DO NOT MOVE OFF AIR.

GOOD ONE JOEY C, INSTEAD OF ADMITTING YOU ARE WRONG, BLAME IT ON ME. YOU REMIND ME OF THE LITTLE KID WHO TOOK HIS BALL HOME WITH HIM WHEN HE LOST INSTEAD OF LETTING THE OTHER 3RD GRADERS CONTINUE TO PLAY.

You're right im wrong. OK? OK? OK?

Happy? Happy? Happy?

U win, U win, U win...

Can we say good bye now?

Biff...who would ever listen to one who calls himself Biff from Biffville?

Simple Game /infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I'll go over 6 for your limit....

How much can you put up?

Can we let Shrink hold the $$

You have some valid points, but 6 is a bad number.

Wanna put your $ where your mouth is??

I'm serious about the limit bet.

Having this thread come back to life gave me a chance to re-read the entire thing, and lo and behold, I found the funniest line ever from Biff:

' I used to get some syndicate games before a few "linemakers" and would "warn" them with my small unit... '

This finally explains Biff. He just has a small unit and is trying to compensate by waving it around and yelling "I've got a secret!". Makes so much sense I don't know why we never figured him out before. He's been warning us all with his small unit for a long time now.

I don't have much tolerance for sports betting due to the unsavory types involved in it.

I'm more of a theoretical handicapper.

You're more of something, Biff, but I really don't know what. You were more interesting before you crawled into your "I can't tell you" shell.

LMAO!

He's a knob, but, he's consistent.

Players would be wise to keep their balances low right before the college bowls hit, as that's when the problems are going to peak.

Nonsense and speculation, its just a matter of knowing how to run a business. Many books will survive, the ones whom know how to run a business and manage money will be fine!

Without sports, what a drag life would be!
