I doubt if the decision had anything to do with getting Rivera a save. Rivera had already been out for the 8th when it was still a one run game. The basic rule in the post season is "never leave the door open". Overkill is the best policy.

The Yankees lost because they had two men on base with no outs and bases loaded with one out and didn't execute. Man, you have to get one run in. That one run would have brought in Rivera for a one inning stint.

Blame Garcia (swinging at ball 3) and the one time hero Boone.

I still dont understand why Weaver was even on the roster instead of Chris Hammond.
