When Ivan777 started this thread, happy Canadians were just celebrating harmlessly. But Bushay started nonsense arguments.

Well. That's certainly one individuals opinion now isn't it? And the amount of IM"s and emails i've received since then tell me a little different pal.

Young Ivan dippped into his big font folder and colorfully told us all what he thought about everybody that wasn't a Canadian hockey fan. Skate Sharpener then came in to tell Ivan, not only what an idiot he was, but to further show everyone, [with a link] showing just exactly what a jackass Ivan REALLY is.
And if THAT wasn't enough......this 2nd clown comes in to support what Ivan started.
{NewYear} then came in to tell either one, or the both of them I'm still not sure] "Congrats to Canada, Canadians ( except the a-hole above) and your awesome team!"

All I did was congratulate the Canadian team as well, wish them luck...and post a question to the group, wondering why such a strong, dominate group of players, couldn't win a Stanley Cup for one of the 6 Canadian teams since 1993. A 16 year void. Evidently some of you took some sort of offense to this FACT. I know that if the country that reside in were in that predicament, under the same exact circumstances..... and seemingly "underachieved" for that many seasons......I know I'd be asking myself that very same question.

That's when the name calling and feelings of some of you guys up north there, got hurt a little bit.

NO statements I made after that were untrue. And I know they were because no one came forward to question them. Just a lot of name calling.

And I'm the bad guy. OOOOOOOk.

Ok hotshot! If you insist. 16 years is an awful long coincidence though. Don't you think? Eh?

Coincidence to what? Check the rosters of those 16 teams and let me know how many Canadians were on them. This has to be a joke

unreal, he STILL doesn't get it. Let's try ONE LAST TIME to help him:

The 'Canadian' teams in the NHL are made up of:
Canadian players, American players, Swedish players, Russian players, Finnish players

these 'American' teams (that are winning all these Cups since '93 are made of:
Canadian players, American players, Swedish players, Russian players, Finnish players

Now, WHEN the Canadian players play on the SAME TEAM TO REPRESENT their country they have a history (including this past decade) of outstanding accomplishments both on the pro level and Jr level. (this unfortunately cannot be said for American hockey, sorry just stating FACT here)

CAN YOU NOW UNDERSTAND??

btw--at no time did you 'post a question to the group' in your first post. Re-read what you wrote, there is no question mark to be found. Ivan upset you with his raw raw raw nonsense (i know mate, you don't like to lose-- nothing to be ashamed about, that jr USA team was v good, just not good enough) AND YOU RESPONDED with an ill attempt at one-upmanship

get over it mate

He obviously knows what we are saying. He is just trying to act stupid to piss people off or something knowing that over the last 16 years all of those teams were made up of a TON of Canadian players. Only a 3 year old wouldnt be able to grasp this concept.

Maybe it just hurts him deep down to accept the fact that Canadian hockey players in general are on a whole other level than Americans. But in his defense we do suck balls at all other sports so he can have that for sure!

Bushay, most Canadian hockey fans don't give a rats ass about other Canadian hockey cities winning a Stanley Cup. There is just no national pride when teams are made up of so many international players. Why the hell would I cheer for Montreal when their top players are pretty much all Russians? If Canadian teams could only be made up of Canadian players, and American teams of American players, people would care, but they aren't. That is why most Canadian hockey fans get real passionate about the Olympics and world juniors, cause we can finally cheer for our country. Being a Canucks fan, I hate Edmonton and Calgary with a passion. When Edmonton played Carolina in the Stanley Cup Finals a couple years ago, I cheered for Carolina. When TB beat Calgary in the Cup Finals a few years back, I cheered like hell for TBay. I would rather cheer for good Canadian players I like such as LeCavelier, St.Louis and Richards (no matter what team there on), then for the hated Calgary Flames. I would expect Calgary fans to feel the same , and it doesn't help when our #1 power play unit is made up of 5 Swedes.

And as far as these junior players not being able to lead Canadian teams to the promised land, wouldn't you agree most of the high end players on the junior teams end up on American teams? With 24 American teams and 6 Canadian teams, that only makes sense.

All I could think of after reading this was this article.

Also the poor quote formatting really made it easier to read, so...thanks for that.

It got a little funnier at the end. Overall I give this thread a 3.

Now that's what I was looking for. A well thought out, nicely explained, reason why I had lost my way for a moment in time there and set me straight. I appreciate it Vancouver fan. Makes a lot of sense the way you put it. And you never made me pass a litmus test or answer a peewee/squirt/bantam skating skills test or get my skates sharpened to get your point of view. :)

But just on a side note. Don't you find it rather odd that it's been that long since a Canadian team has won the cup? I mean with all the Canadian hockey tradition thru the years, especially when teams like Montreal [although tainted] won so many cups over the years.

Maybe Ivan's not so bad after all?

Then again...I never even thought of the Nazi option.

Ottawa and Toronto may have something to say about reversing that trend while qualifying for the John Tavaras sweepstakes.

My reply to this whole thread for the most part was only made for the statement that Ivan and his sheep made and I surely would have never made comments like that unless provoked. My only regret is this thread will die shortly now and I was just beginning to really enjoy myself toying with that clown and his grass roots efforts. I think if he had a little more time he would have got the Pope involved as well as given credit to the Leader dogs of the Blind and Mother Theresa for their grass roots efforts. Not to mention all those good Canadian mothers who made their boys chicken soup when they came in from a day at the pond with their runny noses.

Peace!

16 years seems like a lot I guess, but I'm more concerned with the Canucks and there 38 year drought more than anything. Don't forget in those 16 years there were some close calls, I think Van, Edm, and Calgary all lost the Stanley Cup in Game 7. It's been 14 years and I still can't get over that crushing Game 7 loss in Madison Square Garden. Damn Nathan Lafayette and his goalpost in the last few minutes...:ohno:

by golly he's got it, go figure. All that was needed was an explanation done so in a 'nice' way. So says the guy who calls folks 'ignorant' and 'idiot'. Pot meet kettle.

cheers

Thanks for your insight Ricboff.

you're welcome. I'm assuming this is for the drill response? I've re-read my reply and would like to expand on it, just to be complete (lol).

copy and pasting my reply, and highlighted in bold the area i'll expand on:

" As an example, here's a basic skating drill that will provide alot of information: have the two boys run this skate drill, one at a time. Skate from the goal line to the blue line HARD, stop hard to your left make a cross over right leg over left and skate perpendicular to the boards. End of drill. Watch for; a) basic stride, posture (not too concerned with speed here, the 'a' player MAY actually be faster) b)at the blueline, look for a stop with the outside edge of his left skate while nearly simultaneouly crossing his r leg over in one smooth fashion. Remember these are 11 yr olds."

why are you looking for that? This is more easily explained by answering what you're NOT looking for. And that is a stop using the inside edge of the r skate, hence leaving the weight of the stop on the r side. Obviously, the boy can't make an immediate cross over (of r leg over L) with said position as he'll fall. He must now transfer weight to his L side (brace himself) THEN make the cross over, r leg over L. With this he has now lost 0.8 to 2 sec (depending on his ability). The boy who did this stop and cross over correctly, may get a response from a casual viewer as , 'hey, that kid is quick!!' Actually, the percieved 'quickness' was via proper edge control (of course the boy may be naturally quick, learning proper edge control makes him more efficient, even 'quicker')

not sure if you were asking out of curiosity or you have children and are thinking of putting them in the game? Anyway, if you are interested in putting kids in the game, i'd like to make a suggestion: place him at at EARLY age in figure skating. Not very 'masculine', lol and he may be the only boy in the class, but no worries. He will learn balance and edge control at an early age, a very big plus. You can do it concurrently with hockey. Most larger municipalities offer programs at cheap prices. To be a great hockey player you must be a great skater, however, being a great skater doesn't mean you'll be a great hockey player.
